Juan Uribe Placed on Waivers
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 02:45 PM) I don't like him, but getting rid of him for nothing is stupid. Now to appease Kyyle's call for blood. Unless he injured half the team running to the buffet table for the snacks and cakes call. LOL, thanks for that. The only reason I could see the Sox cutting him loose is Uribe being disgruntled with his move to 2B, and the ascension of Ramirez (and even Richar).

Crede likely to start on opening day
QUOTE(iamshack @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 01:15 PM) You cannot honestly argue their springs against one another. That's just not fair, considering Joe's coming back from injury. Secondly, it's not exactly a David vs. Goliath comparison. Fields is hitting .242 to Crede's .135. well, .100 points in the batting average is a lot

Crede likely to start on opening day
QUOTE(iamshack @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 12:53 PM) Ok, so I just wasted several minutes of my life reading through this entire s***storm. This thread is like every negative poster on Soxtalk's wet dream. Why is it that some people actually enjoy when the organization does something they disagree with so they have a chance to tell everyone else how much smarter they are than the general manager? As much as all the pro-Fields people want to poke fun at "Crede's Crew," and facetiously compare Joe to Brooks Robinson, one would think Josh Fields was David Wright or Ryan Braun. The world will not end if Josh has to go to Charlotte for a few hundred ab's, guys. Just like the world will not end if Joe is traded to SF or LAD. But wow, why do some of you even watch the team or read the newspaper if it makes you so damned miserable? Some of you are incredibly-gifted whiners. pfft you are no fun

Catch-All Anything Thread
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 12:22 PM) Everything was nuts last night, Grand, Park, Wall and even 13 were all closed off for a while. Of course my friends and I are dumb asses and had to adventure around the whole damn city in shorts and were pretty much swimming in this stuff. Like you said, I'm not really sure what's up with the drainage here but it's awful, still last night is the worst I've seen it. Between this and the absolutely crazy ice storms last month(I got a big scar across my forehead for the rest of my life thanks to those), the weather has just been insane here and it sure doesn't help that people in Southern Illinois just don't know how to deal with bad weather. Completely and utterly useless with bad weather. I would always laugh when it snowed or we got ice storms because you could guarantee at least 3 cars in the ditch on the way to school or work. They teach "slam on the brake or gas when roads are icy" at southern illinois DMVs, I am sure of it.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 02:04 AM) Carbondale is literally under water right now. Absolutely nuts. Spring is pretty crazy in Southern Illinois. Lots of ice storms melting into thunderstorms and back and forth, lots of water with nowhere for it to go. They dont quite have the drainage thing figured out yet, which is weird considering all of the man-made lakes in the area. go take a look at the Kincaid Lake spillway right now, I bet you it looks like Niagara falls

Official NIT Thread
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 01:24 AM) That game just pissed me off more about this season. The team has been jekyll and hyde all season, last night was no different.

More Speculation About the Starting CF Job
White Sox Spring Training Competition for CF 2 men enter, 1 man leaves(to the bench) If JO keeps dropping balls and BA keeps hitting them, it isnt gonna be a choice. I think I will wait until the season starts before i get upset about the starting lineup

Johan Santana
QUOTE(Whitewashed in '05 @ Mar 18, 2008 -> 10:04 AM) Johan played infield in Venezuela. He tried to imitate his father who was right handed and later found out he was left handed. Link Haha! Knew I wasnt crazy!

Johan Santana
QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 11:08 PM) Did he change his throwing hand? You don't see lefty-throwing infielders outside of 1b. Yeah, i dont know what I was thinking when I typed that, he was a centerfielder, not an infielder

Music Thread
QUOTE(dasox24 @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 04:19 AM) Well, I've been DJing for my on-campus modern rock radio station this semester, so the last few months I've heard a lot of music that I hadn't heard before b/c I'm not normally a big "modern rock" guy. One artist that I'm beginning to like in particular is Virginia Coalition. I really like their song "Sing Along" and just heard "Home This Year" for the 1st time today, but I like it too. Anyway, check them out. They're pretty darn good. Some other songs I really like that I've heard on my radio station that I had never heard before: Car Crash - Matt Nathanson Mr. Pitiful - Matt Costa Nighttiming - Coconut Records Riot Radio - The Dead 60s 27 Jennifers - Mike Doughty All In My Head - Shawn Mullins Wait For The Summer - Yeasayer Go buy yourself a copy of any Soul Coughing albums. Go nuts

QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 12:27 PM) Somebody tell me again how Mariotti sucks? I felt like I just read one of his columns, only poorly written and without much entertainment value. Im confused. That is the same as reading a Mariotti column

2008 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 09:37 PM) I remember Podsednik saying it was time for him to go. I'd guess because Ozzie would always talk about how unreliable he was. Or it was because of how unreliable he was, as opposed to because Ozzie said it. Pods is just one of those journeyman who makes a huge splash with his new team and fades when he is there too long, and moves on. Very similar to Kenny Lofton of the past 5 years

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 11:13 AM) Well before we bought the place it was a meat packing facility, so now it all makes sense. So if we were playing Clue, it was the Rent-A-Cop (getting laid) in the Computer Room with the Coffee Cup?

Catch-All Anything Thread
Whenever I post drunk, the posts are always a long rambling paragraph where I usually start to argue, realize i dont have the attention span to finish the argument, and quickly summarize and finish. Then I scan the Stupid Hilarious videos thread so i can laugh. I can pick out my drunk posts really easily, i always laugh at them. Its too bad we dont have some of the chat transcripts from the 2005 season, i was rarely sober when at the end of the season, and chat was totally out of control

IIRC Johan came up in the minors as a SS or an infielder, so hitting shouldnt be too much of an issue

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 08:31 PM) Boras is still ARod's agent. yes, but A-rod did the negotiating on his most recent contract And you are right about Andruw as well, he threatened to fire boras but never did. You can switch out Jones for Kenny rogers
