QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 03:38 PM) Reinsdorf was in love with Royals (Kauffman) Stadium for some reason and wanted the same stadium. That's what he got minus fountains. A pretty bland Cell. The Sox were mostly concerned with improving the clubhouses and offices and that's what they got. Except for die hard Sox fans most agree the Cell is a lousy looking ballpark. Great food and drink and all that but lousy ballpark. The cell looks nothing like Kaufman, with or without fountains

The Saints release Junior Gallette due to multiple incidents this past offseason. One year after signing a 4 year 41.5M contract and paying him 18M upfront

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 09:53 PM) Should I even try to treat it? My town says im on my own and they still may cut it down. Its just such a huge, old, nice tree. what was the arborists suggestion? Once they go, its quick and messy. the branches dry out and fall off all over the place. if your town says they will take it down, you may want to let them.

World Soxtalk Championship Wrestling III Thread
Kyyle23 replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Not really much Hogan can do but disappear into his retirement now. And nobody to blame but himself -
QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 08:32 AM) I don't understand how someone like Steff, who was omnipresent on Soxtalk, could go cold turkey and stop posting completely. It's not like she petered out, either. She just stopped. other priorities (Read: Family)

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 10:22 AM) I had a party last week at my house and one of the attendees was a certified arborist. Apparently I have an amazing, mature Ash tree in my backyard. I knew it was an awesome tree (huge, full, provides great shade) but I had no idea it was an Ash. He was convinced that I had the tree treated because he had never seen one in such good shape. I am now terrified of losing it. I know they sell some pesticide stuff that you can use to treat the tree, but it takes 3 years to work. Ash Borers have systematically destroyed all of the Ash trees in my neighborhood. 2 in my backyard, my neighbor lost 2 as well. Terrible way for these trees to die too, they slowly suffocate from the top down, and try as hard as they can to send out low branches to stay alive

QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 01:57 PM) Okay, better than 90%. That means he's better than everybody except 2.5 players. Off the top of my head Abreu and Sale. Oh wait, you are going to say you were only talking bats. So he's better than everybody than 1.3 players. So Abreu. Yep. That makes sense. I am about done with this board. I'm going to go back to just reading and rolling my eyes. De Aza is GARBAGE! There's a reason he was traded. There is a reason he was DFA'ed --- by the Marlins and the Orioles. There's a reason he won't be on the Red Sox next year. There's a reason why next year if he makes a team he'll be released, DFA'ed, or not be resigned. And there's a reason he won't be in the MLB within 2-3 years. I was through with De Aza when he was traded as well, but there was a good reason the Marlins DFA-ed him. he had a pretty bad leg injury and they werent sure he was ever going to play at the major league level again.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 12:12 PM) I generally agreed with you until the last line. Avi's been so bad this year that "The White Sox would be better with De Aza right now" is unarguably true. Long term would they be better with him? Well, Avi's been so bad that if the White Sox want to really field a competitive roster next year he needs replaced. If they're ok rebuilding, he can have another year or two to see if he can turn into something useful. He might well just be a guy we waste 4 years on without ever getting anything positive. Its not inarguably true but whatever. De Aza sucked hardcore with the Orioles and found himself some PT with one of the worst teams in the league.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 11:34 AM) Hitting .263/.317/.450 this year with almost average defence, worth 1.0 WAR so far. Meanwhile, Avisail Garcia is hitting .269/.319/.377 with completely horrendous defence, good for a -0.7 WAR. But please, tell me more about how Alejandro is just a bad baseball player and Avi is the future of the franchise. lets all forget that he got DFAed

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 04:13 PM) Sigh. You said you'd never heard a thing about him in Boston. There has been speculation around baseball and the blogosphere that the Red Sox might seek to package Cespedes to Miami in order to reel in Giancarlo Stanton, but up until now that appeared to be the extent of their intentions. That is not the case, according to Madden. Citing an unnamed source inside the Red Sox organization, it appears the Red Sox have soured on the Cuban left-fielder, going so far as to express “hate” for him. While that word may be a little strong, there is no doubt that some discord exists. “He marches to his own drum and the coaches all hate him.” http://calltothepen.com/2014/10/28/yoenis-...d-hated-boston/ The rest of the article questions how he went from a glue/chemistry guy in Oakland to a clubhouse cancer in two months, but there was way too much smoke coming out of Boston for all of it to have been completely invented or fabricated. You're telling me that planting stories about him in the media was done solely to placate Red Sox fans for not signing him...when they ended up signing Ramirez for the same position and Sandoval, two more huge question marks they now also would love to dump on other teams? If they loved him so much, why would they spend significantly more for an older player who can't even play LF adequately? No, thats not what I said at all. But keep on drawing your own conclusions from tiny snippets in fan blogs and passing them as fact

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 05:54 PM) Sun Times has an article up pointing out that Abreu only has hit "4 line drives this month". of course, I'm not even bothering to link to it because it's in the Sun Times and their insane number of popups literally makes the page 100% unviewable. The Sun Times website is a joke

Bruce Levine thinks Edwards, McKinney, and Contreras will get it done for Price. Am i crazy or is that a gross underpay?

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 03:45 PM) I really wish someone else would have made Pixels. I think it could have been a funny summer action movie. Adam Sandler is just so horrible. Kevin James is also the worst. Chris Columbus is usually someone you can trust though

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 03:36 PM) http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2250329...-this-offseason See article from about the 2/3rd's point on. There were a ton of stories out of Boston last year but I don't have a Globe subscription. This is the first one I randomly pulled up. seriously? this is all you have on a guy who supposedly has tons of articles written about him being a clubhouse cancer? expecially out of boston, a city that routinely destroys the character of players on the way out.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 03:29 PM) That was allegedly part of the reason that Beane was eager to include him in the deal in the middle of a pennant race. I think the dig on him was not necessarily that he was a bad teammate but more that he was not very coachable and refused to play anything but LF (the A's wanted him in CF I guess). I dunno, his deal and value after that first season made him a perfect Beane trade chip. It was surprising when it happened, but when i thought about it, it made sense that Beane dealt him.

I dont recall Cespedes being labeled a clubhouse chemistry trouble maker. Only that he is more of a .250 hitter than he is a .300 hitter
