  1. QUOTE (lord chas @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 04:16 PM) true. i just think we will see the favre closer to his jets year than last year. either way the nfcn should be interesting Disagreed. My mind barely even remembers injured Jets Favre. Last year is way more pronounced in my brain.
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 03:58 PM) Seriously. Best QB rating, completion percentage, and Y/A in his career, and the fewest INTs he's ever thrown in a full season. It was probably the best season of his career. There were honestly times during the Packers years where I thought he was one of the most overrated QBs in the history of the game. And then he went and did that, and totally redeemed himself. His whole wishy-washy retirement shtick the last 5 years has gotten old, sure, but Favre is a pimp. And let's be honest, all those Vikings games this year just got way more watchable.
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 04:06 PM) Hockey does not apply here. Sorry. Actually, it does, and my example is 100% backup for my point.
  4. QUOTE (lord chas @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 03:22 PM) good hope he gets smacked around and tarnishes the little of his legacy and shred of creditibility still left Say what now? Old man had one of his best seasons at age 40 last year. Dude's legacy only grew in my mind.
  5. Let's be real here. The anticipation of what is coming is ALWAYS way cooler than what is going on... regardless of the situation. We're all starved for football while we've watched 118 games of baseball. It was no different when Spring Training rolled around and the Blackhawks were vying for a Stanley Cup.
  6. Keep Ozzie as long as he wants to manage. That's all I have to say about that.
  7. Teams in the American League that lack a Designated Hitter tend to have issues with other American League ballclubs. We stomped the NL because we were on a level playing field with superior pitching and position players.
  8. I don't see anything there saying he'll definitely be dealt. The Nuggets will enter the season with Melo on the roster, and if it makes sense standings-wise, deal him at the deadline. I see nothing forcing their hands to trade Melo prior to the season's start.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 08:32 AM) Toilet at home stopped working, wife is sick, and fell off bike on way to work today. Not an auspicious start to the week. How does a toilet "stop working"? Open up the top, fix the chain, toilet fixed! If it's a deeper issue, the replacement parts can be picked up for like $9.
  10. Caulfield, this is just a request. Could you possibly keep the "sky is falling" topics to one per series? We're in 2nd place, with a series against those whom we chase, in the middle of August. Given where we were in May, I am ecstatic. The bats will get hot again, and the bullpen will stop sucking. This division can be ours, easily!
  11. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Aug 16, 2010 -> 12:00 PM) I got absolutely flat-out skunked. First time that's ever happened. I hope some of you did better. skunked as well It looks like I'll be paying a premium this season.
  12. Twinx don't get to tee off on Sweaty. We'll pull 2/3 minimum with our best starters on the dish.
  13. ESPN is so bad right now, it's pathetic. The station and their network of outlets have absolutely no integrity. I'll submit case #8 million... today's front page of the NFL section. We get it. You f***ing love Tim Tebow. However, to definitively make such a statement after one pre-season game is clearly only pushing for internet hits and clicks vs displaying any sort of journalistic integrity. Orton had better watch out, because ESPN has a rooting interest in Tebow. Soon enough, Mark Schlereth will be calling for heads and demanding to see Tebow in as starter, simply because ESPN wants to talk about Tebow. This is just one of many pathetic acts I've seen from ESPN lately (Lebronathon was the biggest joke ever). I don't know why I click on ESPN, but that is the last time it will happen.

    Films Thread

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 14, 2010 -> 08:14 PM) The problem with Eat, Pray, Love is simply that there's very little conflict in the story. Unless you define conflict as Liz Gilbert's "inner unhappiness" and lack of contentment. I also think it's close to impossible to express mystical/spirital experiences (the Indian ashram part) without seeming hokey cinematically. A co-worker kept on talking so much about this book that I basically agreed to read it in order to get her to stop raving about it...it wasn't horrible, but the middle section (maybe because I'm just not into meditating at all, although I am going to Mount Everest in two months if that counts) was so boring I skipped over it entirely. If you enjoy travelling, it's probably watchable, but more of a DVD/netflix movie and not worth the ticket price, unless you absolutely miss seeing Julia Roberts leading a movie after so long. I, too, took in this unspectacular film over the weekend. My wife was a big fan of the book, so I and 120 of my closest female friends went to see it on Friday night. First, I can sit through some slow movies. This sucker takes the cake in terms of boredom. As one of the few who hasn't read the book, the main character (Liz) comes of fas someone who instead of confronting her issues runs away and bangs hot guys, then with her endless wealth flees overseas to forgive herself for dumping all over her husband. Now, the wife says that in the book, the husband was much more of a dick, and things were explained better. What I got out of this movie were a lot of really nice to look at locations, a pretentious b****, and a really solid acting job by Richard Jenkins. In terms of films I've sat through in entertainment value just to be a good sport, I'd rather watch "The Notebook" or "Dear John" than this one. It was just really slow and boring.
  15. RE-signed up for Showtime (the annual Dexter signup) a bit early since Weeds starts tonight. (Wife loves it, I think it's a shell of its former self). I love free introductory rates for Showtime for half a year every year! Anyway, this allowed me to watch some BB AD last night. I remember watching it with a season a year ago or so and it was boring, but they were at least discussing cool s*** last night. Matt dropped a mean joke on Ragan that surprised me... that's not making the CBS cut! When did you guys see the stuff with Rachel back in the house?
  16. QUOTE (kev211 @ Aug 14, 2010 -> 02:29 PM) Sign me up. Just picked up my copy. kev211 but you already knew that Steve Good man.
  17. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 11:55 AM) MLB 2K8 is the closest thing you can find to MVP 2005. I still play MLB 2K8, in my third year running a parallel franchise to the real life White Sox. I have the injuries turned off, but have the option to force trades turned on. So, when someone gets hurt for real, and I don't have room on one of the minor league rosters, I can trade them to another team until they are active again. Jake Peavy is with the Padres until he's healthy again, I had Teahen with Pittsburgh until he began his rehab. I had to create Vizquel, Threets and Aquino because they had all retired on the game. So did Thome. mlb 2k whatever is garbage The closest to mvp 2005 you will find is MLB 10 the Show. However, the Show is like 100x better than mvp. It is the best sports game of all-time.
  18. Wow. Just wow. Andrew looked like a joke in center on those last two plays.
  19. Ozzie has managed to put both Teahen AND Kotsay in the lineup.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 13, 2010 -> 12:09 PM) I know who wins HOH on Big Brother, and I am NOT happy. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 13, 2010 -> 12:37 PM) Heard it wasn't even close. My girl, Britany, is in trouble. You guys might want to black this out. I now know based on these easily deciphered posts. I choose to ignore the twitter accounts for just such reasons. I cannot believe we have to hear that whiny b**** of a man talk about how amazing he is all week.
  21. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 13, 2010 -> 11:48 AM) Going to be breaking Madden in this weekend. Always interesting to play those first few games. I'm loving it once I shut off that offensive coordinator crap. The single-best thing they did was make the receivers actually attempt to plant their feet at the sidelines and back of the endzone.
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 03:56 PM) um... Griffey? I think you just misread his post. He said "two of" not "the only two".
