  1. There's just too much whining in here about the Sox' spending (or lack thereof) this winter. Why? Would you rather see them spend like drunken sailors on the likes of Gil Meche or Ted Lilly? What is the point of spending for the sake of spending? This offseason, following a very financially successful season, a lot of teams are flush with cash in a pretty weak free agent market. So we get what we've seen so far, with teams spending crazy amounts on average to "kinda good" players. The few players who might (and I stress the might) be worth a huge contract still wind up overpaid. If Alfonso Soriano isn't the second coming of Ricky Henderson or Willie Mays, the Cubs overpaid! We all know that Carlos Lee isn't going to run worth a damn now that his wallet is fat. Gary Matthews Jr. has one good season and breaks the bank at my age! Are these the types of deals you want to see the White Sox making? I wasn't thrilled with the Freddy Garcia trade, but I see why it was made. The Sox were going to have to drastically overpay to keep him. We all saw how his velocity has declined; why would the Sox commit millions and millions over a long term deal to keep him, or risk getting nothing in return when he leaves? Buehrle has given us a lot of reason to be concerned with his performance last year. There are a lot of question marks about what he's going to bring to the ballpark this year. If he can't do any better than the second half of last year, how will you feel if we are spending $15+ million per year for 4+ years for all that? Cooler heads have to prevail, here. If the Sox don't spend stupid money on bad contracts, they'll be in a much better position to spend (and even overspend to some degree, if necessary) to lock up a player who's truly worth it when the opportunity comes along. (Vernon Wells? Jermaine Dye? Crede?) I have faith in KW.
  2. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 04:34 PM) Rodman was great for the Bulls. Rodman worked on the Bulls because MJ was there to be the alpha dog. Rodman respected MJ and was willing to follow his lead. Barry Bonds will defer to no one. I don't want to see him in a White Sox uniform. Period.
  3. I'll join in the fun.... Radiohead- "Thinking About You" Dire Straits- "Lady Writer" Incubus- "Warning" Linkin Park- "Points of Authority" Styx- "Renegade" Genesis- "I know What I Like" Cowboy Mouth- "Everything You Do" Rush- "Dreamline" Cowboy Mouth- "Why You Wanna Do Me?" Aimee Mann- "Just Like Anyone" That certainly was eclectic. My iPod liked Cowboy Mouth a whole lot there....
  4. We all saw how a player who's in the last year of his contract might not have the trade value we perceive. (See, for example, Freddy Garcia.) Perhaps that would drive down what the Jays can demand in exchange for Wells. Signing him long-term would be another matter, of course. But if the Sox are dumping/freeing up salary with moves like the Freddy trade, maybe this means Kenny wants to have the cash to sign a player like Wells to a long-term deal. We can hope....
  5. To me, it seems prudent to wait out this particular FA market. It's not as though we have a crappy team currently. If the market is as overvalued as it currently seems to be, the smart thing to do would be to wait for it to cool off, even as long as next year.
  6. Please, dear God, NO!!! For the love of all things good, NO!!!
  7. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 04:11 PM) imagine, or don't imagine, the "failed" tests for this idea.... and again, imagine or don't imagine the lab rats, whether actual rats or otherwise, and trying to figure out the best way to "make it happen" For some reason, I now have the sound of a champagne cork popping stuck in my head.... Followed by some wincing....
  8. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 10:00 PM) I'm officially never watching scrubs on TV again. In fact, since i haven't had tv since march, I never watching non-sports or history channel related tv again. Boo for commercials.... Hooray internet TV! Long Live TiVo!!!
  9. Good move, KW. Pablo is a good player for the Sox to have.
  10. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 03:01 PM) And how...pray tell...does the reservoir tip come into play? Cuz, without it...that could cause some problems... Ew. Exactly what I was thinking. I mean logistically.... where does it.... go?
  11. Anything to do with Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Keven Federline, and their ilk.
  12. As much as I love Crede, I think this would be a good trade for the Sox.
  13. I guess the Sox didn't want to risk... er, chance getting stuck with him at a price that they viewed as potentially too high following arbitration.
  14. Cardinals- "Even the Losers Get Lucky Sometimes" by Tom Petty Tigers- "Let Me Clear My Throat" (after the choke-job they pulled in the World Series)
  15. "I love Scrubs!" /Hawk Voice I, too, am worried that the whole pregnancy thing will cause this show to "jump the shark," but I'm hoping that they can pull it off.
  16. The definition used in the poll for Integrity is not correct. Integrity does not mean that a person is "the same person in all situations." It means "adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty." (From Dictionary.com)
  17. That move actually increases the journalistic integrity over at Fox News....
  18. QUOTE(That funky motion @ Nov 9, 2006 -> 03:44 PM) I know that I tried to move my seats, and my rep said no one is really droping out. I just have 2 seats,so it sounds like everyone is staying. That's also what I'm hearing. This is a good thing for Sox payroll.
  19. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Nov 11, 2006 -> 10:56 AM) lol I don't think it had an effect on the election favoring the GOP either way, but it could've been possible that was their intentions but I'd like to believe not. I'd also like to believe not. I don't think I can. But I'd like to.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 9, 2006 -> 06:37 PM) if you consider porn an "ok" thing... your hypocrisy isn't the thing we should be worried about. Curious. So, you're taking the position that anyone who considers porn "an OK thing" we need to worry about? Please expand on that position. I'm interested to find out why you think that.

    Those were really funny. Thanks!
  22. I tell ya, if Webb's victory holds up in Virginia, this day will have exceeded my wildest hopes as a frustrated Democrat!
  23. While I lean Democratic, there's no way I'm voting for Stroger for county commissioner.
  24. I went with "never." The best possible answer for me would be "rarely" which is less than "sometimes" but more than "never." And "rarely" is closer to "never," which is more along the lines of "not on your blinkin' life" or "it'll be a cold day in hell."
