  1. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jan 30, 2017 -> 07:19 PM) Yeah, I was just thinking about that. When you project out a 2019 team you get a sweet rotation of.... Rodon Kopech Giolito Lopez Fulmer/Dunning/Hansen with Burdi as the closer. Pretty sweet set of arms. But when you project our lineup you get...what... C - Collins (hopefully) 1B - Abreu 2B - Moncada 3B - Machado SS - Anderson LF - Fisher??? CF - Basabe RF - Beer I mean, those are 4 question marks there for a top system. We really need to fill some of those via future drafts and Quintana/Frazier/Robertson/Jones trades. Fixed...but I agree with you.
  2. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 30, 2017 -> 01:32 PM) I'll give Theo credit where credit is due, but a Cubs rebuild was done through multiple seasons of tanking, combined with success after prospect success that is nearly impossible to repeat Tanking allowed them to draft Bryant, who turned into a superstar Trading Samardzija and Hammel for Russell + more was a great move Tanking and drafting Baez, Schwarber, Bryant, Almora, Happ, etc. really allowed them to build a large amount of the team When you draft in the top 5 nearly every season you have a much greater chance of landing impact talent I'm not sure Sox fans would have the patience to deal with 3-5 years of tanking...but we might have to The Cubs didn't have near the level of talent the Sox have on the MLB roster to trade away. But somehow came away w Russell, Rizzo, Arrietta and Hendricks in someone solid or under the radar moves. They still needed the drafts to build the major contender and it took some time. With what the Sox are trading away, the near MLB ready prospects should expedite the rebuild and might only require a couple years of tanking.
  3. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 27, 2017 -> 06:55 PM) Trade Frazier at the deadline, then bring him back for 2 years and $20 million. Trade at deadline. Then sign for 1 yr $12 million in the offseason. Trade again at next deadline. Lather, rinse, repeat. Then he will REALLY be a part of the rebuild.
  4. This felt like the "Sale scratched from start" news that broke just before the deadline. Most everyone thought trade about to go down. Alas, "Quintana scratched from SoxFest" didn't last long. Makes sense because Jose doesn't seem like a guy who would cut up SoxFest programs because he didn't like his photo in there. ?
  5. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 27, 2017 -> 12:37 PM) Everyone is going to have their own views and opinions on players. I don't really understand why people get upset about rankings. Agree completely. For instance, if Gary Sanchez (after his phenom debut where he absolutely raked and stayed at catcher) were eligible and ranked, he would easily be #1. I bring him up because his GM said that Sanchez would have been the equivalent of Moncada if NYY were to compare w Boston's Chris Sale deal. Everyone's views are different and an opinion...don't get too high or too down about it. On the bright side, you could also take the pundits' rankings with a grain of salt and feel a little better about the fact that an actual respected GM who makes the deals thinks so highly of Yoan.
  6. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 12:02 AM) Lol, that Astros package would make me cry in happiness. In defense of the click bait article's author, I think he said those were players from each team that would interest the Sox
  7. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 05:01 PM) Looks like he's in the best shape of his career. Looks like he's been doing Pilates
  8. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Jan 18, 2017 -> 12:46 AM) Has it been discussed that it is possible Hahn has received an offer he is willing to accept but he just wants to wait out the offseason to see if anyone can match or beat the offer? He has likely taken that hypothetical offer to the other teams and given them a day or less to match. No sense waiting any longer than that as he would risk the acceptable offer being pulled. So unless that happened in the last 24 hours, it likely hasn't happened
  9. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 17, 2017 -> 11:16 PM) The only reason Hahn hasn't been burned by refusing to back off what are surely ridiculous demands is because there are no other options out there. Trust me, if Houston or Pittsburgh could find a good lefty elsewhere they would've done that by now. They know they need to shore up their rotations if they want to seriously compete this year and they need to go after Q unless they are willing to deal with an even more ridiculously stubborn Rays front office. It was fine that Hahn started with a really high ask for Quintana but now its time to back off a little and meet these teams halfway. I dont understand the enthusiasm for waiting. That above dynamic that has bailed Hahn out will be gone soon, I really dont know what else to say to those who refuse to believe that. How long have you guys followed baseball? Have you ever seen a pitching market as barren as this one? It wont last, and if you think it will you are letting stubborness cloud your judgment. Outside of the conjecture of "ridiculous demands" what you say would be plausible except that these teams are not so turned off by said ridiculous demands that they remain "engaged" in "daily talks." That is all we know and the fact remains that since a deal has yet to be completed, the offers are below asking and will remain so in 6 months. So there is less risk for the Sox then one of the teams bidding because if one team blinks and gets Q, the remaining have no recourse as the asset they were haggling over is gone. Sellers market and really not up against any deadline so be patient.
  10. We got spoiled w 2 great hauls in 2 days and we've grown impatient. I get it. But I'm fully on board with Hahn's thinking that we need our asking price met or we keep Q. We don't have any imposed deadline...much less so than the contending teams that need the piece to give themselves a legitimate shot. It's clear that teams are still interested despite the asking price so it's clearly not egregiously out of the ball park so let this play out and eventually, someone will send us a package of prospects we deem as appropriate to Q's high value. Our arbitrary SoxFest and Spring Training deadlines are not unique to just us. Interested teams would love to lock down a trade and unveil Q at their fan convention or before the season too so as we get closer, you'll see more action or even us pulling Q off the market to revisit at the deadline. If the latter happens, someone might still just give in and make the deal. If not, the below asking price offers today should be available at the deadline too.
  11. QUOTE (FT35 @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 03:28 PM) Get over it Houston. Geoff Blum happened...he even works for you now. It's a thing of the past and it's time to move on. But Brett Myers for Heidenreich,Walters and Devenski also happened more recently so Luhnow owes us one
  12. Will be traded to braves for Albies, newcomb, acuna/maitan but wish we could pry Torres, Rutherford, kaprellian/Sheffield
  13. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Jan 15, 2017 -> 09:27 PM) An admittedly crazy thought crossed my mind after reading that several teams may now have upped their offers. If Hahn really likes these supposedly increased Offers, perhaps he might consider dealing Q to one team and Rodon to another. That might really move the timetable for the rebuild forward. We give up half of our remaining rotation, but that could be a major haul of prospects, one like we have never seen before in such a short time period. OK, I know I have really lost my mind now, so back to watching football. Eventually he may exceed it, but Rodon today isn't worth close to the prospect haul that Q is so not sure the Q runner-up would bite. And a lefty TOR pitcher is something we really don't have for our winning rebuild years so Rodon prob worth more to Sox than other contending teams.
  14. I would think he'll be gone soon. Lot more moves to be made
  15. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 04:01 PM) Good deal. If we can move him at the deadline, great, if not - oh well. Huh? It would really suck if we can't move him at the deadline
  16. Jimenez and Cease are the real deal and would be ecstatic w those two as part of a 3 player package w Happ. Although,if I'm Hahn, I'm asking for Baez or Schwarber and "settling" for that package
  17. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 06:00 PM) When the trade happens we'll say a collective "Now what?" For 5 seconds. Then we'll critique the trade. I think we'll critique the trade first and then say "now what?" Top quotes after trade: #1 (by far): "...one player light" #2: "should have eaten some salary to get another prospect" #3: "Boom! RH strikes again" #4: "Should have traded him this past summer when Bregman was in play" #5: "Should have traded him next summer when Bregman would have been in play"
  18. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 07:09 PM) Pittsburgh would be parting with five prospects for Quintana, I don't see that happening Yes, a bit heavy from the Pitt side but as Quinarvy said, perhaps a sweetener from white Sox needed or remove Diaz. But idea was to allow Pitt to keep their untouchables in meadows and bell, while giving Nats enough to unload their untouchable in Robles. I only posted so that Rick Hahn's "feedback guy" might see it and consider it
  19. 3 team trade: White Sox trade Quintana to pirates and Robertson to Nats Pirates trade Keller, Newman, Hayes and Diaz to white Sox and glasnow to Nats Nats trade Robles to white Sox
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 04:00 PM) Only if you have your head buried in the sand. They have been trying to trade everything in sight. Who is gone already is just who had the best markets, not who they didn't like most. The only part of the "Drake Purge" I believe is that when KW blocked the rebuild mid-season, he told Hahn that he could begin shopping Sale, Eaton and ship off Duke because its Kenny and he's emotional. Hahn is more pragmatic and methodical and didn't like this half baked approach but said "hell, I want to rebuild and this will be a part of it any way" so he started with those 3 in earnest last summer. With that ground work laid, hahn was able to ship off Duke for something in Tilson and completed deals for Sale and Eaton first. Luckily for us, Hahn won out this off season w Reinsdorf and could rebuild fully and thus all the names are now on the block. It's just that Hahn didn't have the 5 month head start on any of the other players' "values" as he did with sale and Eaton. So it's taking some time but Hahn has set what he deems the white Sox value is for each and the market will speak over the next few months.
  21. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 03:29 PM) Gahhhh, am I glad you're not running the negotiations. This kind of mentality of fear is how you capitulate and trade him for an underwhelming package. You don't know how Q will pitch, you don't know how Newman will play (or Glasnow, or Meadows or anyone else). None of us do. But, this mentality of "it can only get worse from here" is pure BS. If you trade for the prospects now, you're taking a risk as well. The trade deadline could yield a buyer who isn't in the bidding process today (maybe a starter gets injured), for prospects who maybe we aren't even talking about today. Completely agree. The buyers for Q only increase at the deadline (barring injury, which is a crapshoot and a risk worth taking w a proven durable Q) as pitt and Hou will still value 3.5 years vs 4, along w other teams such as the yanks, dodgers, cubs and Rockies that are solidifying their top 3 starters for the playoffs. The chance of Q's value dropping is lower with a proven track record vs the chance of young prospects such as Bregman or meadows dropping if they say open the season 1-34 or hit .214 in AAA, respectively. Those teams will be begging us to give them Q for those headliners.
  22. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 10:50 PM) Then call their bluffs and don't trade him. The other teams are waiting for the Sox to lower their demands because they all know the Sox want to trade him. Just don't trade him and maybe they will be forced to trade later. Isn't that exactly what Hahn is doing? If he wasn't, then Q would have been gone in December.
