Austin Slater Signed to MLB Deal
Re: your first question, because the Sox still present one of the easier paths to the majors.

Potential Crochet Trade discussion Thread
If it were me I'd extend Crochet to anchor a potentially really good future rotation involving Schultz, Smith, Thorpe, etc., but we all know that isn't happening so it's sort of pointless to even argue about. There's enough interest in Crochet where even Getz should get a nice haul on paper. The key is obviously landing a couple guys who actually pan out.

Venable named new Sox Manager-per Merkin
its like assistant to the regional manager

Venable named new Sox Manager-per Merkin
Glad to see they did a legit search and hired outside the org but the manager isn’t really going to matter unless they can get him a competitive roster.

Jerry Reinsdorf open to selling the White Sox per Britt Ghiroli
If it’s serious, look for evidence that other bidders are getting involved. There’s zero friggin chance a group led by Dave Stewart would really be the top bidder, or would make such a strong offer to preempt getting shopped around.

Sox trying to fix Vargas
He sure broke quick.

What does this team look like in an alternate timeline?
If players have that little discipline on their own, you’re in trouble regardless. The manager hire wouldn’t have mattered. Signing Harper is maybe something that could have mattered, especially if it incentivized Reinsdorf to make some other moves too.

Fire Chris Getz

Interim Manager
Just let Ozzie do it. Might be moderately entertaining at least.

Fedde/Pham/$ to STL, Kopech to LAD, Miguel Vargas + prospects to Sox
Hopefully Vargas and/or one of the lotto tickets pays off, but the trade feels pretty light. I'd feel a lot better about it if we had a couple intriguing prospects coming from STL too, even if they weren't top tier guys.

Fedde/Pham/$ to STL, Kopech to LAD, Miguel Vargas + prospects to Sox
I'd get it if Edman was healthy and putting up a 3-4 WAR season but this is just bizarre.

Fedde to STL in a three way with LAD
Then we’re doomed regardless. But I like Walker’s upside.

Crochet Trade Updates (Nightengale)
Spencer Jones seems underwhelming. Probably not a coincidence that NYY are suddenly willing to include him when he’s been struggling at AA this year.

Heyman: Senzel to Sox
Holy cow, somehow didn’t realize Senzel has been so bad. Maybe Getz didn’t either…

Story on Sox trade possibilities...
Sure helps that Baltimore still has a bunch in the pipeline, including the #1 prospect in baseball.

ha, fair, thought somebody mentioned ‘19

Story on Sox trade possibilities...
Yeah, it's obviously early on the rest but 2019-20 were total busts after the first rounds. That's coloring things a bit.

Shirley seems like an improvement and has a good knack for spotting first round talent, but we still have a ways to go from a depth standpoint. Need to hit on a few later picks too. 2019 - pretty sparse after Vaughn, Thomas and Dahlquist have struggled 2020 - pretty sparse after Crochet, Kelley has struggled 2021 - pretty sparse after Montgomery though it's obviously early 2022 - after Schultz, you have Cannon and not much else at this point though it's early 2023 - after Gonzalez, it's obviously early, but hopefully Taylor develops

No one said that. Jac is one guy. We need multiples. We need several years of strong position player draftees at this point. For each, you're likely looking at a couple years before they're MLB ready, and another year or two to get some MLB experience under their belt. (Not many playoff teams led by rookies.) Best hope is to use a Robert, Crochet, and/or Fedde trade to jump start that some.

Never said that. Jac is one guy. Need a lot more than that, even if they're not all "stars."

Bingo. Honestly not seeing how we build a playoff quality line up in the next five years. Even if we go heavy on position players in the next several drafts, by the time they get up to MLB and contribute, that’s 5+ years off. We’d otherwise need a big name free agent or two to build around, and Colson to really pan out, but we all know they’re not going to spend the money on that.

Jose Abreu Released
We’re totally bringing him back aren’t we.

White Sox "actively seeking" packages for Robert
We’re actually not all that far off from having an intriguing rotation if we held onto Crochet and Fedde and Thorpe keeps dealing. Problem is we’re so far away from having a competitive every day lineup. Need a lot more than Robert and I’m not sure where it’s going to come from any time soon.

Interesting Lee comment...
What’s he supposed to say — obviously wants to play more.
