Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
spiderman replied to Al Lopez's Ghost's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Special K @ Jan 20, 2017 -> 08:23 AM) Don't be so sure. Some GMs may be in the hot seat and have pressure to make the playoffs. If Pittsburgh is a fringe playoff team and McCutchen is having a bounceback season, Meadows may seem more expendable. Same goes for other teams and perhaps surprise suitors that are fringe playoff teams. Q, in all likelihood will continue to pitch very well. I wouldn't take the "best" offer just to take one. He's our last extremely valuable trade chip. We should get a top-tier position player prospect headliner. Nothing less. Is holding Quintana until the trading deadline (or next off-season) a gamble worth taking if his value is high right now? Any fear that he won't be as good on a team that is expected to bottom out over the next year? I'd hate to see the White Sox hold out for an A+ deal if an A deal could be had right now, only to see his value diminish over the next year (injury, subpar season, etc.). -
Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 15, 2017 -> 03:12 PM) Well no one has added his article so here. Aside from that blurb it's all stuff we've heard said before including Q's background and contract, that "insider" bit is the new part. It doesn't appear that Levine is even aware or "in the know" on whom the White Sox are in talks with other than re-reporting what has already been public knowledge. The only news in his column is that the White Sox want to move him before spring training (i.e. the White Sox have said there isn't any timetable in their pubic statements regarding any speculation). -
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 04:11 PM) The free agency cost of closers has skyrocketed, Robertson's deal does not seem as huge anymore 2 years/ $24 million is not awful for a decent closer His contract isn't an issue. Granted, he's not an elite closer, but given the contracts some have received, his contract is not likely to scare anyone away. At the same time, while some teams will probably be sniffing around him, I can't imagine the White Sox getting more than a middle of the road type prospect for him. If Nate Jones is part of the rebuilding project, or considered to be an asset to another team down the road, it's probably in their best interest to move Robertson this off-season, give Jones the closer job and see if his value can increase by the deadline when they can get a good prospect for him.

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 07:25 PM) Jesse Rogers @ESPNChiCubs 1m1 minute ago Jed Hoyer: “I don’t think we’re the Chicago team that’s going to be making headlines.” A sign that most believe the White Sox are likely to move Chris Sale in the near future. Interesting that Quintana's (and Rodon) name haven't come up much and it's all focused on Sale. If they end up making a great trade on Sale, why not go all the way here and commit to a full rebuild vs. something in the middle where they land 2-3 young players who could fill in positions offensively?
-
Even if the White Sox make what is considered to be a great deal for Chris Sale, it really sucks knowing that a primary reason for the trade is that the organization has been unable to find any positional talent of their through the draft which has led to the free agency moves that have mainly done little to nothing, to where we are now, where the only way to 'fix' the team is a half-way rebuild centered around their best player. Just sucks to be a Sox fan right now with the struggles of the front office to add to the talent of the rotation.
-
I'm not sure what they are going to do - if they even know. It's possible they could split the difference, moving Quintana for 2 or 3 prospects who could potentially speed up the rebuild process, and then add through free agency. I'm not sure a strategy/outcome like that would please anyone know though.

Who Will Be The Next Manager of the White Sox
spiderman replied to Y2Jimmy0's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 21, 2016 -> 09:46 AM) I think it's clear that Robin Ventura will be relieved shortly after the season. Who will be the next manager? I still say Sandy Alomar. It's most like an ex-White Sox player, experience need not matter from their previous hires. I'm more interested in if they are hiring a metrics driven manager vs. an old-school manager. I'm not even sure how Robin fits into that. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 06:14 PM) Doesn't really make sense for the Dodgers. They don't need another highly paid often injured sort of not bad outfielder What else would Milwaukee be getting for Braun? I thought (but could be mistaken) that he was still a fan favorite in Milwaukee and that the owner liked him. Puig is rumored to be a horrible clubhouse teammate as well. Unless the Brewers are saving significant money and/or receiving 1-2 good prospects, what is the upside to making this trade for them?

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 5, 2016 -> 11:31 PM) Roughly $40M and we owe $20M. Seems unlikely he would retire and pass up on that much money, but you never know if he keeps performing like this. Does he have 2 years left after this season? Is that ~20M over 2 years or is another 1-2M still owed this season? Tough to see the White Sox releasing him, but if they're truly all in, this is the type of move a team would make to get from under a pitcher who is clearly pitching on borrowed time. I still think it's more likely he'll be the #5 starter, and we're hear all about the adjustments that were made next spring training, but I wouldn't rule out that the White Sox would release him.

How much is left on Shields deal after this season, and what do the White Sox owe?

Ventura says he'd return next year if asked
spiderman replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If the only available candidates, should Ventura not be back, are ex-White Sox players, does replacing him matter? -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 13, 2016 -> 08:27 PM) Then Lawrie comes back and Saladino goes to the bench....Morneau playing for a contract with another team. They might as well let Saladino catch for as much difference as it will make. What is Lawrie's contractual status with the White Sox? I'm still not sure if Saladino can get on base enough (he currently doesn't) to be a regular player, but he does have ability and may improve; however, is he a bench player or an everyday 2B?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 8, 2016 -> 06:07 PM) In about a week you would probably feel different. I have very little hope for him. I just know what we have besides him and don't see much risk/loss in not giving him more opportunities.
-
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Aug 7, 2016 -> 09:55 AM) Agreed. Let him play the remaining 2 months. No reason to not give him at least 50% of the remaining games. I know they're not going to forget Navarro,

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 6, 2016 -> 12:22 PM) Where are these reports? I've actually seen the opposite from Scot Gregor and Matt Spiegel. Both have heard that JR is ready to do it. This is Dan Bernstein saying this, and he may be right (despite being a social nut who can't keep his left wing politics off a sports how, but I regress). I don't think anyone knows what Reinsdorf is thinking except his inner circle.

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 6, 2016 -> 10:40 AM) Next year is just going to be another attempt at winning with roughly the same team and new coaching staff. Sale, Quintana, Shields. Rodon, Gonzalez will be the rotation unless Shields goes in a waiver deal this month. They'll start the season with Melky, Frazier, and Lawrie. They'll sign two different catchers again. Same old stuff. If they brought back that rotation, Rodon has to emerge for this team to have any chance of breaking .500, much less contend. Shields is probably going to regress - that was my hang-up on trading for him. If he had a 1 year deal, fine. Even with SD paying a large part, the Sox still owe him $27 over 3 years. Not a huge investment, but a good one on a team that has to be smart financially. Don't want 2 more years of Shields after this season, but he's likely to be here. Rodon is the guy here - the Sox would probably be a pretty good team if they could find a way to add 2 legitimate hitters to the current team. Rodon has top of the rotation stuff, but it hasn't been there consistently. If it did, adding to Sale and Quintana, they could get a lot better quickly just by adding a RF and DH.

QUOTE (Baron @ Aug 6, 2016 -> 10:36 AM) Rick Hahn may think there are going to be more suitors. But that doesnt mean the price will be met. Heyman in his last article posted pretty much the same thing from another front office executive. Just because there is more people doesnt make your price any less ridiculous. Does anyone honestly think their price is going to be met? Or that they actually want someone to meet that price? I actually think they dont want their price to be met so they can keep on going in their dream world where they can just add a few veterans and compete. It's going to be nearly impossible to find equal talent, and a team who has a group of top young talent, willing to move it for Sale. I get waiting until the off-season, but even then, you can probably knock off 25 teams right away because their top prospects are not elite. You have more teams probably involved that you would at the deadline, but will teams be as desperate? This last week could have been great pickings if they pulled the trigger - some of the pitching that was traded did bring back quite a haul.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 6, 2016 -> 09:54 AM) Hahn was on with Levine and Esposito today. Tons of lawyer talk as always but a couple of things More suitors for their players in offseason Players on ML rosters available as well as 2016 draft picks Great deal of progress in INTL Scouting Praised Paddy and Hostetler and talked about the recent draft picks while noting the SSS As good as anyone at developing pitching Acknowledged that they were behind the 8 ball with developing position players but noted that they made some changes to correct this a few years back Mentioned guys like: Semien, Trayce, Micah, Phegley who aren't playing for them but allowed them to acquire guys that "could help" them from other organizations Deferred all questions about Robin and the staff to the offseason but it's pretty clear that he won't be back Hahn is right - their own minor league talent has allowed them to acquire major league talent (latest example of Frazier), but the team isn't winning and the offense is awful. They are good at developing pitching, but, as of right now, knowing they have traded some offensive talent in trades, who are the offensive players in the minors? Even Tim Anderson, who clearly has talent, isn't going to last in the majors if he can't show patience at the plate. Pitchers are just going to throw him garbage and his batting average will keep dropping.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 6, 2016 -> 09:54 AM) Deferred all questions about Robin and the staff to the offseason but it's pretty clear that he won't be back Even if Robin isn't brought back, what ex-White Sox player do you prefer they hire to replace him? The pandering they do to fill this role is pretty insulting to Sox fans. Just hire the best guy available, he doesn't have to be a former Sox player. That either shows they don't value the role and/or just pandering to a fickle fan base.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 08:43 PM) They look capable of going 23-34 the final 57. 74-88. Something like that. 57 more games....long season
-
What happened to him? Serious injury?
-
All reports say nothing will happen; on one hand, frustrating when you see the amount of talent (at least by ranked prospects within an organization) being given for mediocre/average talent, but it's hard to move these guys and ever feel comfortable that equal talent was received...then again, we're back at where we started - 2 great pitchers, a few professional types (Robertson, Melky, Eaton, Jones, Shields, I'm probably missing a few) with a lot of mediocre talent and our offensive force (Abreu) falling into that category this season.
-
Definitely some conflicting reports this morning - Boston may be actively talking to the White Sox but chances don't seem more than extremely remote that they do anything.
-
Not trading Sale or Quintana means that that the White Sox are either going to keep them (and build around them) or re-visit the idea in the off-season. It may make more sense to consider a trade in the off-season when more teams are involved, it just depends on if anyone would be willing to be blow them away now with an offer. Should they decide to keep and build around these two, the question is how? They still don't have much to work with in the minors, and spending on top tier free agents isn't something this organization is known to do. I would expect that they'd keep both trades/free agency open to add to the current roster, but this is a lineup that is 2 middle of the order hitters short and may be short a starting pitcher and bullpen help after this season.
-
QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 12:29 PM) I'd be really shocked if he isn't moved to someone. And when he is, God help this bullpen... After Jones, the Sox will have a bunch of kids/scrubs commingling into tight games. Which teams in contention need a closer and willing to take his contract?
