In reality, as long as the current ownership won't supplement their young core with elite free agents or keep their own players, it's hard for this to sustain more than a few seasons before another teardown would be needed. Currently, they are probably another full season away from being even competitive, much less winning. They are going to lose 100+ games for 3 straight seasons. Assuming they improve next season, what does that look like? 85-90 losses which is still around 70-75 wins. From there, you hope that the players you mentioned are legitimate MLB players who are improving, but it's hard to see that group alone being a formidable offense. It's probably missing 2-3 veteran difference makers. Pitching is in much better shape, but with injuries and depth needed, not to mention, regular turnover from their policy to not give pitchers long-term deals. It's exciting to have a nice pipeline of young pitching, and the White Sox are good at developing pitching, but it's also exhausting to look around the league at all of the star power that they have moved on from due to money.

It's such a stupid thing too. Most people probably hear him the way we do if you watch enough. To me, you don't need him to be ultra negative about everything, just don't attempt to spin everything as somehow positive when we're watching the same thing. Tone it down a notch or two.

Who are you referring to ? I think this guy tends to be over the top as well which just adds to how ridiculous he sounds.

Luis Robert trade thread: La Pantera stays.

The White Sox haven't historically included cash to move players. Is there any examples where they have? This would be a chance (if my memory is right). I think it's all but a guarantee that Robert is traded, just don't see much value coming back even if they include some cash. I feel like that would be about moving on saving some money than it is in prospect return. -

Can Rosenthal's White Sox notes be summarized? -
He's just a team mouthpiece. Tries way too hard to be overly optimistic about a team that is historically bad. It comes across as phony and some odd sell job of a team that still appears to be years away from being competitive.
-
Do you think the White Sox are going to be able to trade vets like Taylor, Slater or Capra for anything? Some team will want Tauchman, but he's a 5th OF, maybe depth for a contending team that needs one extra player off the bench. I don't think Beni is getting traded and if Robert does, it'll be for a very unsatisfying return. There just isn't much value here that other teams will want. Eventually this will get cleared out - by trades or releasing players, but it doesn't need to take another month + to do so. I also don't see Baldwin as a player who will be at one position so I don't mind if he plays all over. I think there's plenty of options to get him playing time 4-5x a week.

It's some sort of a desire to have a veteran presence on the roster. I'd like to also have a veteran presence on the roster - just ones are actual major league players with plus skills.
-
Exactly. There's no answer that can justify playing a veteran stop-gap like Capra over someone they say is part of the future.
-
Why are they playing veteran bottom of the barrel types in the majors over him? With the current roster, it wouldn't be hard to get him playing time.
-
How has Vaughn / Elko been doing since being demoted? Same question on Colston Montgomery.
-
That's likely the one guarantee - Getz will have endless time to rebuild the White Sox regardless of how the team performs.
-
He's not wrong. The team sells the fans that the only way to do this is to completely take it apart and put it back together, but this time with long-term sustainability. You don't hear of any commitment to be a significant free agent spender or that the players they draft (particularly pitching) will be retained if they draft well - but that goes back to the sustainability nonsense. They can continue to replenish without having to spend on elite free agents. Meanwhile, the White Sox are on Year 3 of a rebuild with no guarantee of any outcome and the next 1-2 years don't look to very promising with most of their young talent still developing.

Luis Robert has no trade value right now. Even if he's traded, at this point, it's for, at best, salary relief, on a team whose payroll is already been gutted. The White Sox are not getting a top end prospect or even middle of the road prospect unless they pay for salary ( which they don't have a history of doing) or he suddenly becomes amazing in the next 50 games which also seems unlikely given how poor his performance has been for more than a year. White Sox may find a team who is willing to take him and hope he performs better in a winning culture, but trade value is out the door on this return. -
Yes, but we don't even know if he can hit at the MLB level yet. Play him everyday and let's find out.

If Robert is healthy and playing well, wouldn't any contender from a larger market be interested? The Dodgers have a loaded farm system, but our last attempt to get talent resulted in Vargas, an injured IF and another middle of the road prospect who we will never hear from again. So far, Robert, outside of the Boston game on Saturday, looks awful. It's also 15 games into the season and April. A lot can change by June. It's just hard to see the White Sox getting a multiple high end prospects back for Robert. If they get a team's top #10 prospect and another in the top #20, I think that's the extent of it. Basically a couple of lottery tickets that may improve the overall depth of the organization, but probably don't much else. -
White Sox agree to 1 year deal with INF Josh Rojas
spiderman replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I tend to agree that signing all of these end-of-bench players are just not needed. I'm guessing they are meant to more or less, fill out the roster and provide some level of veteran leadership. Thankfully, they only do these on 1 year deals. I would have preferred a few 1 year deals for players that they could potentially trade later, but these guys do not have much value. -

And, desire.... If anything, they will trade Robert if they can get a return. At this point, the start of next year is going to be very bad, but it's expected with the lack of talent at the major league level. Things will gradually improve when they start to bring some of their better regarded prospects up, but there's no real need to give any multi-year deals right now to a team that's probably 2-3 years aways from being even close to average. -
Jake Burger to Texas for 3 minor leaguers.
-
This guy was ok for the Cubs last year, but at 34 years old, he is unlikely to repeat that. I guess I just don't see the value in spending a dime on players like this. They should let Fletcher play, stop with the older end of the bench types

Potential Crochet Trade discussion Thread
spiderman replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Are teams likely to give up top 100 offensive prospects this off-season? I don't think the White Sox should focus on specific positions as much as acquiring top talent so hopefully Getz won't settle for less talent because he wants a RF (as an example). I think they would want 2 top prospects but not sure if that will be doable -
How can they even catch Minn in 3-5 years?
spiderman replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Obviously, injuries and performing less than expected could happen for any of the White Sox top prospects. We're seeing some concerns with Montgomery which is a huge concern given how thin the White Sox hitting prospects are, but, if they want to build around pitching, they need to develop all of these prospects and keep drafting them high to have more in the pipeline since they won't pay anyone who's good and we're only have any good young pitchers for 3-4 seasons before financial decisions are made. But....if they can develop pitching....big IF, but they do have talent AND they complement the offense with a mixture of young talent and veteran free agents (another big IF, AND probably won't add much this off-season), they can compete. Whether they win or stay competitive would depend on the health and success of their player development. There's no long-term strategy that is likely to be successful though if they aren't willing to spend on their own talent and impactful free agents. They are giving a false impression that they should only build through the minors...that's fine, and can be sustainable, but it's also near impossible to do for more than short stretches. -
It's hard to have much confidence in the upside of several of these guys, but they have definitely improved the depth of available starting pitchers. Obviously, Schultz, Thorpe and Hagen (excluding Crochet because they are highly likely to trade him for an offensive player) are all projected to be top half of the rotation starters so this team is pretty loaded with options, but all of this is prospect humping for now. I do expect Cannon and Martin to be favorites for rotation spots to open next season along Thorpe. I am hoping that Hagen and Schultz are not part of the roster until at least May for contractual reasons (Hagen is not even a probability to pitch next season in the majors, there's just a chance he'll be here quick). I will give them credit though for rebuilding the young pitching on this roster although some of these guys will clearly not work out. It's just much better depth than they have had in recent memory.

White Sox rotation options for next season Missing anyone? Lots more depth, good overall potential, but probably 2 years away from being competitive with upside - Crochet (but likely to be traded)..maybe a player they receive in a trade for him. - Thorpe - Cannon - D.Martin - Sean Burke / Ky Bush / Nastrini/Eder - Schultz (after May) - Hagen Smith (maybe later in 2024) - Flexen (or some similar veteran)
