The Wok is definitely my favorite place to go in the cities for chinese food. Most of my knowledge of places to go are around the U of M campus, but if you're looking for places to go, it wouldn't be a bad place to visit. Stub & Herb's is a great place on Washington & Oak for good beer and good food, but I guess you don't drink, which kills that idea. There's a dueling piano bar downtown that's a lot of fun from what I've been told, but also probably wouldn't interest you. Either way, you definitely need to go to Dinkytown and walk around a little. It's the college part of the city, but there are a bunch of cool stores and it's a good place to wander around (and there are plenty of bars ). As for things not related to alcohol, Lake Calhoun is a great place to go for a walk and has some beautiful houses to look at (this might have been what Markbillards was talking about with the Victorian homes). I'd also really suggest checking out a St. Paul Saints game, as they are incredibly fun for all ages. I worked there in promotions last year and the type of things that go on at games are great, especially on days with good themes. They're owned in part by Bill Murray, which really explains some of the absurd and hilarious things we did/they do there. I know you're already going for baseball games, but at Saints games, the game is really secondary to all the other things that are going on.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Mar 29, 2010 -> 03:46 PM) The 3 animated shows I enjoyed were American Dad, Futurama, and King of the Hill and right now none of those are having new episodes. Although the first 2 should hopefully both be having new episodes in near future. Simpsons has been bad for a long time and Family Guy actually has been pretty terrible too. I didn't know anyone actually liked American Dad. The other two are awesome, though

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 29, 2010 -> 04:06 PM) Ya Futurama is having new episodes I believe in May or so. I can't wait for that. June! QUOTE (Felix @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 07:07 PM) I'm sure no one cares, and this probably doesn't even belong in this thread, but I'm too excited not to mention it. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 29, 2010 -> 11:57 AM) Was super excited to watch the pacific since I loved band of brothers so much. But it was awful. As I told my friend, it was more Pearl Harbor the movie than band of brothers. Disagreed. The first two episodes were great, and while last night's was a bit slower, it focused a lot more on character development. I'm still enjoying the series thus far. On a more important note, I'm pretty surprised that I haven't seen much Breaking Bad talk in this thread (although I haven't looked that hard). It's possibly the best show on TV right now.. definitely worth checking out.

Despite my abortion of a Midwest region, I'm apparently tied for first in the bracket challenge. Certainly helps that the only game I've missed in the East so far is Wake Forest/Texas.

QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 26, 2010 -> 08:12 PM) Wow, in real time, thought Turner got fouled, but was all ball. Turner walks off without shaking hands. He's incredibly talented and is probably going to be a great pro, but he's a massive, massive tool. I thought it was a foul at first too, but the replay was pretty clear. Great non-call by the ref.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 24, 2010 -> 04:18 PM) Why is Oregon a crappier program than Minny BTW? Whens the last time the Gophers won a conference title? Looks like 1982. The Ducks won in 2002 and won the conf tourney in 03 and 07. Oregon has made the NCAA tourney 5 times in this decade, while Minny has only done it 3 times. In those appearances, Oregon made the elite 8 in 02 and 07, Minny last did that in 1990. I understand alot of the success of the Gophers has been washed away due to scandals in the 90's but I still dont understand why you call Oregon a crappy program when they've been more successful than Minnesota has been of late. Auburn does suck though. My point isn't that Minnesota is a prestigious program. My point is that I seriously doubt Tubby would leave a program that he just rebuilt for another rebuilding process at this stage of his career. You can disagree with that all you want, but I don't think there's much of a doubt that Oregon would be a rebuilding project right now, which Tubby doesn't sound interested in tackling. EDIT: There's also a lot of talk that Tubby is holding off on fully committing to the Gophers until he gets a new practice facility for the team, which wouldn't surprise me either. It's supposedly something that's been promised to him and he could be using the other "offers" as leverage to get it done. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 24, 2010 -> 04:01 PM) Oregon has $$$ Given the stage of his career he's in, I don't think that really matters. Why would he leave a program that he just rebuilt for another rebuilding process? It doesn't make sense, especially since he's happy in Minnesota. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 11:05 PM) If Hewitt leaves GT, look for GT to be a major player with Tubby Smith. Sounds like there's a good chance it happens if Hewitt leaves. I certainly wouldn't rule that out, if only because GT is a fairly solid program with a lot of good talent. That being said, all the discussion of him leaving for a crappy program (Oregon or Auburn) is hilarious and has no validity. -
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Mar 24, 2010 -> 09:41 AM) The only thing that will get Ozzie fired is Ozzie. Here's the issue with some of your arguments: The team was built on the GM's back and it was a station-to-station home run hitting team. I'm not blaming Kenny for this, he did what he thought was best. it didn't work, although Ozzie managed through it. What kind of team won the World Series in 2005? I would argue it was a lot more like this team than the teams from 2006-2009. Speed at the top, players who can handle the bat, better defense, a couple of home run hitters, but mostly gap/doubles power. I won't go so far as to say that Ozzie will never be fired, but it's going to take a string of crappy years or some ridiculous thing that he says to get him fired. The team in 2005 was 5th in the majors in HR with 200 and dead last in doubles with 253. That sounds absolutely nothing like our offense this year.
-
I've grown to really dislike Ozzie, especially as he continues to have a significant impact on the roster construction of the team. He's not the GM, and he shouldn't be given that type of power over the organization. Given that this team is essentially the one that he wants (minus a little grit and determination), I think he'll be on the hot seat should his attempts to play NL ball in the AL fail miserably.

Been listening to the new Gorillaz album lately and really enjoying it. I've never really got into Gorillaz too much, although I've always enjoyed their stuff that I've heard (and I like Blur, although it's certainly a very different style than Gorillaz). Maybe I'll have to investigate their older albums.

I'm glad I picked Kansas to lose in the elite 8. If only I hadn't picked Georgetown to beat them -
QUOTE (The Bones @ Mar 20, 2010 -> 11:38 AM) That's about the dumbest f***ing thing I've ever heard. Yep! They told us something about the back of our tickets having information about it, but that was complete bulls***. They just didn't want anyone to question them, and we didn't, as we all wanted to stay the whole game.
-
It was fun. We had a block of seats for students in the upper level for the first session, so it was good to be surrounded by maroon and gold. We started the game standing (like any good students would at a college basketball game), but security came by and told us that the NCAA has a rule against standing (bulls***), essentially threatening to throw us out if we didn't sit down. Still, it was a lot of fun to actually see it in person.. probably the only opportunity I'll have in my life to do it. Pretty damn convenient that the game was in Milwaukee.
-
Tubby isn't going anywhere. How long is it going to be until these rumors end? It's a shame that we couldn't make anything, but that was fun regardless. It's not often that someone gets to watch their team in person in the tournament, so I'm glad I had the opportunity to do it while a student. Obviously it sucks that we lost, but I wasn't expecting us to win, so I'm not too broke up about it.
