  1. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 01:23 PM) Ah, there's the cocky attitude that was missing for a decade in that 0-28 stretch. All i'm saying is that Minnesota gets in over Illinois because of the last two games it played, which aren't as impressive as the numbers would indicate. But whatever, you got in, we didn't, so good luck. I'm not trying to be cocky at all, but all this Illinois whining is just getting old as hell. We beat two of the three co-champions in the Big 10 in back-to-back days. Regardless of who they were missing (and again, we were missing JUST AS MUCH), that's damn impressive. You can try justifying it all you want, but the fact of the matter is that the Gophers went 7-3 in their last 10 games, including a one-point loss to Purdue (which we should have won) and wins over Wisconsin, Illinois, a PSU team that "no one wanted to play", Michigan State and Purdue. On the other hand, Illinois went 4-6 down the stretch and lost to us in Illinois. With that in mind, there is no way you can convince me that Illinois deserved the spot over Minnesota. Had you beaten us at Assembly Hall, I'd be able to understand your reasoning. But you guys did absolutely nothing to earn a tournament bid down the stretch, and because of it, you're in the NIT.
  2. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 12:58 PM) Congrats to you guys. Minnesota deserved it. Thanks. I think we did too
  3. Nice to see Iowa finally come to their senses. Lickliter was godawful.
  4. QUOTE (farmteam @ Mar 13, 2010 -> 04:01 PM) Really? That's kind of funny, since everyone I've ever talked to can't stand it. Different tastes, I guess. I do absolutely love Nirvana, though. I mostly like the energy in it. I think it's a good recreation of what it would be like to have gone to a Nirvana concert in the early 90's, which I was sadly not able to do.
  5. Just applied for the student tickets in Milwaukee. They have 70 allotted for students, and since it's Spring Break and you have to apply in person for the lottery, I'm feeling pretty good about my chances. Now I just need to find a place to stay once I get there...
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 11:25 AM) Still trying to find someone on the internet upset about the starters staying in until 2 min left. So far, nobody but Felix. Wait, actually on about the 5th message board I searched I did find about 4 people. So at least there is SOME company. There were some other Gopher fans who weren't so pleased with it. Really, in the end it doesn't matter and it's up the Thad. All I'm saying is that there's reason people think Matta is a prick, and that sort of decision plays into it.
  7. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 11:05 AM) Illinois got screwed. Anyone who knows anything about college basketball knows that Illinois is a tourney caliber team. It's a joke that Minnesota got in over them, it's a joke that Utah St., UTEP, Florida, etc got in over them. I dunno how you can fault a team for losing games they're expected to lose. Wow, so Minnesota pulls out a W against Illinois, yet has less quality wins and more bad losses. So now we're deciding that one game means team A is better than team B? Guess Illinois should be in over the FOUR seed Wisconsin, cuz we won 2 out of 3 against them this year. And how does the committee not see that Illinois took OSU to double OT, yet Minnesota gets blasted by 20+? Isn't that some indication of which team is better? Minnesota's only good win in the big ten tournament was against an overrated MSU team without one of its players. Purdue is clearly an average team without Hummel (though it was still an impressive performance). That was just a joke of a decision. lol enjoy watching your team in the NIT blah blah blah MSU was missing Allen blah blah blah Purdue was missing Hummell Let's ignore the fact that Minnesota played without their starting point guard for Big 10 play and their two top recruits (FOR THE ENTIRE SEASON). Whatever. That means nothing.
  8. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Mar 14, 2010 -> 05:48 PM) We got f***ed. Tennessee is not a 6 seed. I didn't and still don't expect to do much in the tournament, but our seed is some bulls***. We beat the top 2 seeds in the tournament this year - Kansas without 4 of our players (including our best to start the year) and Kentucky. No one else in the country has done that. Gottlieb thinks Tennessee is overseeded (and picked against them in the first round). Have at it.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 14, 2010 -> 05:51 PM) Ryan Howard for Albert Pujols trade talks? Non-story. The Cardinals would never do that. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Mar 14, 2010 -> 08:00 PM) What's with the slight-moderate upgrade at the same position trades from Philly? A Beckham-Utley swap can't be far off. I'd say the upgrade from Howard to Pujols is more than a "slight-moderate upgrade." It's a pretty significant one, which is really a testament to how good Pujols actually is.
  10. The highlight of the program was Rik Smits, bar none.
  11. I really enjoyed it last night. I grew up watching that rivalry, so it was a lot of fun to look back at it this way. Plus, it reminded me of the glory days of the NBA
  12. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Mar 14, 2010 -> 06:53 PM) I'm predicting total chaos in this bracket, there are a lot of relatively weak high seeds in there. Gophers to the final 4!
  13. I don't get not wanting to watch your team when they're playing, regardless of whether it's the NIT or they're playing some s***ty mid-major that has no chance of winning. When the Gophers made the NIT a few years ago, you bet your ass I watched our only game in it and I most certainly rooted for the Gophers. I'm not in the business of ignoring my team while they're playing, EVEN IF the games ultimately mean nothing.
  14. That sounds an awful lot like entitlement.
  15. QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 14, 2010 -> 06:29 PM) I don't mind the NIT. I like having games to watch on Monday, Tues, and Wed when the NCAA is on break. Its the CBI and others that need to go. Fully agreed.
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 14, 2010 -> 06:28 PM) There is not a single good reason anybody at Illinois should be supporting, paying attention to, or even watching their NIT games. Illinois won or shared 4 Big Ten Championships in 5 years to start the last decade (and lost a streak of 5 in a row by less than a second at Wisconsin), and now they've missed 2 big dances in 3 years and are in the NIT. Supporting these NIT games is supporting meaningless games, mediocrity, and a program which has had a shocking dropoff since Bruce Weber recruits took it over. There is absolutely no reason to do it, and nothing that happens next year, good or bad, can be traced to these games unless somebody suffers a terrible injury. So what you're saying is that you're spoiled? I really have nothing against the Illini program. I rooted for them throughout high school, as my brother went there and I was hoping to go there. But your sense of entitlement is ridiculous, and frankly, annoying as s***. It reminds me way too much of Kentucky fans when they had Tubby Smith, which I never really understood. It sucks to miss the tournament, but why not support your team as they try to win the NIT? I don't care if it's a 'meaningless tournament,' your team is still playing games and you should still support them.
  17. Your team didn't make the NCAA tournament.. it sucks, I know. There's nothing fun about missing the field of 65. However, does that mean you shouldn't give a s*** about playing in the NIT? It's still college basketball, and it's still one of the best sports around. I know it's tough to play in a tournament that supposedly doesn't matter, but god damn.. there's no reason you shouldn't be supporting your team still.
  18. Illinois fans are hilarious.
  19. QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 14, 2010 -> 05:53 PM) Didn't work for Illinois State. The Man is just trying to keep them, and all the other mid-majors, down. ISU has the best backcourt in the nation, bar none
  20. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 14, 2010 -> 05:45 PM) Meh, they beat an MSU team without Allen a terrible Purdue team and got waxed by OSU. They got in because they beat Illinois at Illinois so I don't have a problem with it though. without our starting point guard. You can use that excuse for MSU and Purdue all you want, but we've had just as much of an excuse for the whole season (and definitely for Big 10 season).
  21. The Gophers definitely stole Illinois's spot. Sorry about that guys
  22. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 14, 2010 -> 05:24 PM) Florida is lucky to be in the tourney. A 10 seed is a freaking joke. I'm shocked they're a better seed than the Gophers. I don't get that at all.
  23. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I can't believe we're in AND in Milwaukee. Time to start looking for tickets...
