  1. Anybody know what our over/under number is in Vegas? Edit: Here is what AL Central O/U odds look like on sportsbook Sox 78 Indians 85.5 Twins 83.5 Tigers 81.5 Royals 76.5
  2. QUOTE (scenario @ Mar 25, 2009 -> 05:33 PM) And this is the team 'experts' are picking to win our division? If it's any consolation, we are picked ahead of the Injuns in the video game projections.
  3. Damn, I should have sold my extras before this news came out. Nevertheless, the thought of opening day and tailgating makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside
  4. I'm also holding a more competitive pool on cbs sports (I think I've held one since I've been 6) If anyone would like an invite, feel free to pm me. Paypal accepted. I think we had 53 brackets in this pool last year.
  5. Vitale can rag all he wants about the East being the toughest region, but this region is straight up stacked. The top 3 seeds all won their respective major conferences... and plenty of good historical teams to go around. Btw, Arizona is favored by 1.5 to beat Utah.
  6. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Mar 12, 2009 -> 01:34 PM) No way, lowest 3 seed most likely. I'll take that bet. I predicted weeks back that Kansas locked themselves into a 2 seed with the win over Oklahoma on the road, provided they DON'T bow out with a huge upset in the first round of the Big XII tournament. Not only did the ytoung Jayhawks manage to do that yesterday, but also got trounced in Lubbock last week.... and they'll still most likely grab a 2. Funny after everyone was reacting to the Izzo claim that Michigan State should be a No 1 if they were to win the Big 10 tourney, most if not all "experts" turned around and said they would give that 1 to Kansas over MSU, even though they beat them suring the reg season. All a mute point now...
  7. I'd take Chase Utley without blinking an eye.... second Lincecum or David Price
  8. Then again, I didn't trust such a claim to pick up much steam on a thread like this anyways where 98.9% of the posters despise Kansas. I do enjoy that much of the negativity comes form the few that completely laughed off Kansas locking in a 2 seed when they beat Oklahoma on the road though. Unfortunate I didn't take any action on that call along with the Big XII championship. There is no such thing as a re-building year in Lawrence. Save that for Champaign.
  9. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 9, 2009 -> 02:35 PM) How can you say KU deserves a #1? Didnt MSU beat KU by 13 points? So unless MSU some how gets a 1 seed, I cant imagine KU getting one. http://www.collegerpi.com/cy/rpi.html MSU- 25-5, beat KU has a stronger SOS and RPI. KU- 25-6, lost to MSU. I don't see where I said KU deserves to be a NO. 1 seed, so I'm not sure how to answer that part of your question. The so-called experts on the other hand, I'm sure would be happy to answer your question. I've heard Bob Knight mention it, as well as Andy Katz..... the nationwide college hoops media very much loves Kansas right now. As for your other questions, yes Michigan State beat Kansas, I watched that dreadful game. Michigan State also lost to Northwestern on the same floor as they beat Kansas on. Whoops.
  10. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Mar 9, 2009 -> 01:18 PM) I am the most loyal KU fan in the world, they have no reason to be a 2 seed. This '08-'09 team did better in conference (2 losses) than the Jayhawks' national championship team last year, they very much deserve a No. 2 seed at this point. There are plenty of ramblings going around on if they continue to go on and win the Big XII tourney, they still have an outside shot at a No.1 seed. Many people thinking 1 conference will not get two No.1's this year.
  11. Looking forward to the White Sox return trip to the Home of Beer, and their first trip to Miller Park. Will be there with my tailgating shoes on for Saturday and Sunday.
  12. Latest Bracketology is finally out.... and sure enough, Kansas shows up as a #2 seed (the top No. 2 seed) http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/bracketology
  13. I am thrilled and reasonably optimistic about El Titan De Bronze's speedy recovery. He was lights out last year before this injury, and I really thought his career might be done. I've always admired the roller coaster ride of Jose's career, and I would have hate to seen it go out like that. If we even get a half season from each of these guys, I think we'll be ok. Low risk, high reward and obviously we know both have done it on the big stage when s*** hits the fan as well.
  14. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Feb 27, 2009 -> 02:50 PM) who was on the Illinois one? Jordan, Sweetness, Ditka, Banks
  15. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 27, 2009 -> 01:44 PM) agreed. I think some people view frank how he was post 2000, with his various injuries that really stalled his career.. But between 1991 and 1997, he was one of the most feared hitters in MLB history... not just Chicago. He had a string of seasons unlike anyone... ever. Maybe not so much the end of his career on the field performances, but maybe moreso his negative off the field image as his veteran career aged. He really wasn't too pleasant of a cat after his divorce and his agent passed.
  16. QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 26, 2009 -> 09:47 PM) Thomas should have been over Banks. Fixed that for you. No, not because I loathe the Cubs either... it's just a trendy pick. Hurt was the most feared hitter in the leagues for the better half of a decade, and imo the best player to play the diamond in Chicago history.
  17. Wow.... this is awful news. I will ALWAYS associate the Bulls with Stormin' Norman. I just heard him a couple days ago on the afternoon saloon and was thinking to myself how much I've always loved Norm's insight.
  18. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Feb 24, 2009 -> 04:31 PM) OU is a legit #1 when Blake is around. In fact, I might have to pick OU to win it all in March. I am not disagreeing with your claim, but the committee will not give out #1 seed to a team that has not won their conference, especially one as mediocre as the Big XII. I'd be willing to bet Lunardi has the Jayhawks at #2 seed with his next bracketology, and looking at KU's schedule, I'd be willing to bet realistically that's where they'll end up come March. Again provided no early Big XII tourney exit. I'd consider Mich State a much more quality loss than Syracuse was. Michigan State was touted to be a top 5 team all year.
  19. QUOTE (danman31 @ Feb 24, 2009 -> 02:31 PM) LOL a 2 seed? We aren't even in March and Kansas needs to beat Missouri and win the Big 12 Tournament for a 2 seed. Maybe just winning the tournament will do it, but I would have to think they are on the outside looking in for a 2 seed. There will be no No.1 seeds from the Big XII, I am fairly certain of that. The winner of the BIG XII will deserve and probably get a 2 seed. If there is a upset in the 2nd round of the Big XII tourney is the only way I forsee downward seedings... most of this is not rocket science, especially with the higher seeds. Not worried for Kansas beating Mizzou... it's never fun to be a Tiger in the Fieldhouse.
  20. Sure it's still a bit early with some hoops yet to be played... but KU won themselves a #2 seed last night. Alderich is a BEAST that very few teams are gonna be able to match-up with.
  21. QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 05:41 PM) The new Beckett book is decent. I've used Beckett last year and it was a wonderful mag.
  22. For those of you who rely on these types of books and mags in the past, which stat or forecasting books do you find particularly helpful with fantasy baseball projections, drafts and preparation?? I've found several different published efforts for this year via amazon.... any insight about any of these would be greatly appreciated. For what it's worth, I am in 3 fantasy leagues, a standard cbs head to head, a yahoo roto 5x5, and a NL only keeper league. Thanks for any input http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw_0_12?...ix=Baseball+for
  23. I think KU's very tough non-conference schedule really seasoned these kids well for the Big XII season and leading up the tournaments. I can see improvement on pretty much every single player on the team, which is a welcome change that I love about Self. It was all too often you saw a player digress under Roy. I am extremely proud of this Jayhawk unit thus far, they have targets on their back and yet they play without paranoia, partially becuase they don't know any better, but moreso they are well grounded and fundamental team. Not a common characteristic for such a young team. Props are owed to Self indeed. All that being said, I agree with Jimbo....tonight will be a tall chore, no matter which way you slice it. BG or no, the Sooners are coming off a loss, they will be hungry, and eager to show what they can do without Blake to a nationwide audience. These kids know they will be hosting the Big XII game of the year tonight...
  24. RALLY DAYAN! Bring It! Hit the Bull, Win a Steak!
  25. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 06:56 AM) I'm all for rushing the court when you pull off a huge upset, but when you are ranked #17, and you beat #16, and you run on the court and act like that?? Act like you been there before, or I guess in Mizzou's case, at least act like you think you deserve to be there.... In their eyes, they just won the championship. I hear Anthony Peeler's don't grow on trees.
