  1. Roberts? Who writes this?
  2. It's almost like he knows better and does this on purpose.
  3. I also saw Alex finally got his wish with the other Ernst not running again.
  4. I have always read that winning is the best thing of all for a clubhouse. I do still find it wild that if the Sox actually have to teach something, they apparently aren't able to do it. They need pre-made players, which seems to show up with their most successful players coming from outside the organization on a regular basis.
  5. I know it has been said that including dollars was on the table, but I also can't help but think that this might have something to do with the articles about other GMs being frustrated with Getz... if this changed at the last minute.
  6. Since they can't seem to figure out how to play them both for some weird reason.
  7. They were the veterans. We also saw a clubhouse descend into "chaos" when Tony LaRussa was hired, after Ricky Renteria had zero clubhouse problems. Of course, would the Sox take responsibility for the putting a well out of touch manager into a group that had shown no problems in the past, and then try to blame it on pretty much every player on the team? Well?
  8. And unless the return is awful, he isn't getting traded in the off season.
  9. After yet another season ending injury (or really close to it) do you really think his value is going to go up in the off season vs what teams were offering to them at the trade deadline? His health is literally point #1 to his value going forward, and it just failed again. If the Sox do decide to bring him back, I can't see anyone trading for him in the off season. If the Sox really think they are dealing him in the offseason, I see no reason to think it will be for much more than the could have gotten for him in July after he misses another 6 weeks due to another soft tissue injury.
  10. Assuming Benny is back, the Sox have around $40 million in committed payroll to fill out the roster. Even bringing back Robert at $20 million still puts them far below their number this year, and they are finally getting some TV money. Don't get me wrong, they MIGHT not bring him back, but it shouldn't be because of bottom dollar considerations.
  11. This. I think his price probably pushes into the $8 to $10 million range in his next arb year, which means unless he goes back to hot, he will go back to unemployed. Getting offered arb at about a $6 mil price tag was dumb enough, but I don't think the Brewers will keep digging that hole.
  12. Look, this is one of the few "veteran presence" guys who actually did the job he was paid to do, so I will give them props for getting the scouting right in this case. But these fill a hole filling signings are the things you celebrate with an 85 win team trying to eek a bit more out of a roster, and not a 41 win team looking to build a critical mass of kids to rebuild with.
  13. If it were me, I would love my "veteran leadership" to actually be able to show the kids what it is like to be successful at the major league level on a daily basis.
  14. What did he say?
  15. Unfortunately the era of the no glove, all bat, player is pretty much dead. These guys have next to no value on the trade market. Sosa probably has the most value to the White Sox.
  16. After the recent talks about the pen sporting a middle of the pack ERA I actually went through and looked it up. After the last couple of days, the Sox are 19th in MLB in pen ERA at 4.14. It gets interesting when you look at a xFIP of 4.57, good for 28th, and FIP of 4.22 good for 21st. Lucky seems to be the most accurate word.
  17. That's It's 25 degrees outside, pricing
  18. And judging by the drops in attendance, ratings, and advertising, there are plenty of both.
  19. It's why the Slater deal was better. They actually got a potentially useful piece for the next half decade, vs a roster spot filled.
  20. And if they are, it means their Coaches need to find a new line of work.
  21. The absolute worst guys are usually stuck at DH. 1B is because they can't throw and/or have range. They mostly just catch the balls that other guys throw.
  22. But be ready for the stern talking to about feeling that way. Everything is FINE! This was all EXPECTED! SMILE DAMN IT!
  23. Dude was a QB, and a really good one, for the record.
  24. A 35 year old on a one year deal, on a team going for their 3rd straight 100 loss season, is a "home run" signing if you can turn him into at least one usable player with six years of control. The idea that this was a huge win because we got somewhere around 2 WAR out of a player who will be most likely playing with his grandkids by this time this is even a .500 team again isn't focused on the future at all. Ironically in one post, it doesn't matter how many games we lose because we are rebuilding, but then the next up short term results of a short term player who has returned nothing for the time when this franchise can start to win again is a home run? If it is a home run to get 2 WAR out of Tauchman this year, it was an embarrassment to lose 100 games. If this season doesn't matter for losses, than the results of Tauchman within those 100 losses, can't be a win, unless he returns someone who can be a win when the wins actually matter. It is either about now, or later.
