  1. QUOTE (Soxnfins @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 07:09 PM) May be going against everyone here, but I'd give them Carson Fulmer, especially if the organization projects him as a reliever. Although that could be too high. I'd consider guys from the second tier, but definitely not the first.
  2. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 03:54 PM) Is it 'legal' to use promotion to The Show as a negotiating factor? I think that was how we got Sale to sign so quickly The Astros have done it in the past.
  3. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 03:14 PM) Hahn is going to sign him to 9 year $60M contract this offseason and he will be in the 2018 opening day rotation and hit free agency at 29 years old. I would use green but I am not certain if I am joking. If we really signed him to a deal like that with options on the back end for at least the last two years... Go ahead and put him on the opening day roster.
  4. Just spotted my first funnel cloud in real life. It was short lived and never hit the ground, but wow what a rush!
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 02:48 PM) I highly doubt that they would attempt to get a utility player. Even if they dump Saladino and Hanson, counting Sanchez, Leury Garcia, Anderson, Moncada, and that 3b we traded for from Milwaukee, we have more than enough guys for the infield positions who should get some big league playing time next year. I similarly don't look at Stephens or Guerrero and think they are obvious rotation candidates for next year - if they don't grab a rule 5 player and I still think they will, then in that case I'd expect them to sign someone Holland-like (someone suggested Lynn earlier in this thread) who can fill the role for part of the year. I think this is all spot on for how the Sox operate. They usually find and invite about a half dozen pitchers on MiLB deals to spring training with various levels of chances to make the team. You'll have both guys on minor league deal/spring training invites along with a Rule 5 pick or two, to go with guys like Giolito/Lopez who are higher confidence levels for making the team. I would say as it stands today the White Sox have two rotation locks. Rodon and Shields will be on the White Sox roster with near 100% certainty, but for different reasons. Lopez I would put at about 90%. Giolito about 70%. Both could lose spots with bad springs, but in general are probably breaking camp. That leaves the last 1 to 2 spots for competition between everyone else.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 02:50 PM) Wow, thats a shocking ratio That is the commonly accepted translation. If it is really cold outside the ratio is much lower. If it is around 32 degrees, 1 inch of water can put down 12-15 inches of snow.

  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 02:21 PM) One inch of rain is roughly equal to ten inches of snow. I don't remember any 500 inch snowstorms. I have lived in the lake effect belt all of my life, and we have never had a 50 incher. We topped out at around 36 in one shot. I am pretty sure Chicago's biggest fall is about 10 inches less than that.
  9. QUOTE (Sockin @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 02:06 PM) Sox players going: Pitchers: Dylan Covey, Jace Fry, Matt Foster, Connor Walsh Catchers: Seby Zavala Infielders: Danny Mendick Outfielders: Tito Polo http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/afl/club.jsp?team_id=454 Not a single top tier player. Wow.
  10. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 02:03 PM) Hahn is not stupid enough to give up basically a whole 7th year just to get the 2 extra starts Kopech would have by being on the opening day roster. All for a year they have zero chance at getting to the playoffs.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 01:58 PM) Put the claim in on Stanton and embed him into the rebuild!!! Pretty sure he already cleared waivers with no claims.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 12:52 PM) "Has a chance to earn it" He is gonna have to knock them over. I mean, he could, but it isn't as if he is being handed a spot I hope this is right. At the very least I would like to see him pitch half a season in Charlotte and keep his walk totals down. He did achieve the most important landmark this year in getting through an entire season without injury or incident, and even managed to get his walk totals down over the last month. Hopefully this is a reward for a home run of a season, but not something that is set in stone.

  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 28, 2017 -> 03:51 PM) Ironically, I don't believe this is a worst case scenario by any stretch. It's major flooding, but the storm itself didn't strike the city. Worst case scenario combines this amount of rainfall with a direct storm surge strike. This has been bugging me all day - 2k5 is right, you can't evacuate that city in 2 days, but at the same time the 500 year floodplains of these rivers are now being filled 3 times in the last 2 years. I am getting now why ordering an evac would be a disaster, but that means because the city is so big you're leaving the people who can't afford to evac on their own as sitting ducks. I don't know what the answer is here, but this isn't a situation I'm comfortable with. Either we have dozens of dead people and tens of billions of dollars in taxpayer funds flowing into Houston every 10 years or so, or we rethink how this city operates before the next one hits - and basically none of the big time storm surge protection projects would have put a dent in this flooding, they were aimed at the last storm. I am pretty sure we have had this debate from time to time, but realistically with as many people who put themselves in harms way of natural disasters, there isn't a way to make things fully safe from 50 inches of rain everywhere that is at risk for this.
  23. QUOTE (Tony @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 08:55 AM) I'd argue the exact opposite. I've seen multiple people say "Well he is just getting them ready for the future, so when this team is good, they will be ready to bunt and prepared." Who's to say the players on this team have lost faith in Renteria for making poor in-game decisions? I know if I have a boss that continues to make poor decisions in their job, decisions that directly affect me, I start to loose faith in that boss. I'd be more worried if I saw any signs that this team has quit at all. Even the veterans are playing out this at 100% effort.
  24. The big thing that keeps me from doing it is being in the local comcast sports net market. If I dropped, I wouldn't be able to watch Chicago sports anymore.
  25. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Aug 28, 2017 -> 06:34 PM) Now this is interesting. Wonder what Stanton's value is with that contract. If we take on that contract, I am not willing to give up anything of value... at all.
