Scoopcity from WSD
Wow. That is more coverage than we have gotten from the entire Chicago media contingent in months. I also hate pretty much every single one of those things.

Gonzalez to Rangers
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 10:25 AM) MY guess is that if the Sox thought there was any chance he'd be moved today, he would not be pitching today. Bingo. He would have been long since gone.

8/30/17 Games
QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 09:53 AM) Hopefully this organization gives him a chance. He seems like one of those players that is never going to crack a top prospect list, but all he does is go out and produce. Could be a useful bench piece, utility player, or maybe even a super sub type that ends up a full time player by being the backup at several different positions. His problem is that he is trying to move into the most densely populated area for talent right now with the White Sox. Moncada, Anderson, Davidson, Delmonico Sanchez, Saladino, Leury, Hansen.... The question quite literally is where would he play?

Afternoon delight: Sox Twins 8/31 game thread
QUOTE (Soha @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 09:47 AM) I'm surprised Migo hasn't been traded. The market just doesn't exist for certain players this year. Rentals are bringing zero returns for whatever reason unless there are top notch guys.

What is Gordon Beckham doing? I am sure we could use him as some sort of instructor, right?

Realistically owners now get 10 home games per year. They aren't about to give up 10% of their revenue stream every other year by going to a 3 game pre-season.

Dan HayesVerified account @CSNHayes 13m13 minutes ago Nice running grab in the corner by Avisail Garcia. Fangraphs has him at 3 Defensive Runs Saved this season and at minus-1 in UZR. Garcia was minus-19 DRS between 2014-15 and is plus-5 since the start of 2016.

Kopech will have a chance to win a rotation spot next spring
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 04:38 PM) Totally. As a young guy why is risking everything over $10-20 million a smart thing to do? Those deals do seem like no brainers. So you get to free agency a year later. If you're as good as you think you are, you're still going to get that $100-200M contract, just a year later. Sure maybe you lose a year on it or something, but to me that far outweighs the risk of flaming out with only a couple million. Those free agent years for Sale are probably worth more like $30 to $35 million a year. We could be talking about $40-45 million on the open market, not to mention dude is probably looking at something like 7/8 years at $30 to $35 per year. Putting that off for two more years also introduces two more years that his shoulder or elbow could blow out.

Kopech will have a chance to win a rotation spot next spring
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 02:49 PM) Never mind that he gives them a much better chance to win games than Covey. If he earns it they should let him up, this isn't Rodon. There is no Boras lurking. If he performs the Sox should be very aggressive in extending him. It takes two to tango and Kopech doesn't seem like a guy who is lacking in confidence in himself. Those guys tend to not be the ones worried about early money. They are looking to hit the powerball.

sox marketing technique - acquiring attractive players
QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 01:43 PM) I know this sounds pretty ridiculous to say...but probably my biggest fear about Moncada is him getting too caught up in being "pretty" and turning into a prima donna. This thread is actually pretty funny...but even my gal commented on how many good looking young guys the Sox have...and she hates baseball. Dude already has a shoe and car thing.

8/29 Games
QUOTE (Quin @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 10:26 AM) Honestly both Sox should have been presented the option to reverse the trades. Yep, or at least renegotiate them. Remember the Padres ended up getting a prospect sent back to them.

8/29 Games
QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 10:07 AM) I look at it as the last bad move in the "Go For It" era. Every team makes bad moves. The Sox are no different. Now they have a plan, and we're going to find out if it works over the next 5-7 years. Not to mention we got absolutely screwed on the medicals, and for some reason MLB decided not to do anything about our case.

Chisox Baseball on the road Tuesday, August 29th at 7:10 PM
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 12:07 AM) I believe in the sophomore slump. Many guys come up once the season started and do fine. Then when they start that full season that magic doesn't happen. It could be scouts got a better angle on them or the pressure after having success. I expected that to happen to Frank but it didn't. We see so many examples of this. I think Alexei was voted the best player in Chicago before playing a full season, then there was Avi, Beckham. Sometimes I do fear that organization may be bringing guys up too soon. Remember Tim Anderson was not going to be brought up last season. There's always this debate of when to bring someone up. I do wonder if Renteria's strength is getting more out of younger players. Some of them probably listen to the hitting coach too. I don't know if it is PC to say, but is it coincidence that so many Latin players took a large step forward this year?

Gonzalez to Rangers
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 07:53 AM) Trade him and then bring him back. If anyone wanted him, he would be gone by now. I could be shocked in the next 30 hours, but I am guessing he is ours until October.

- Giants interested in Stanton
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 07:20 PM) Let's assume that they aren't going to move him now as they are in the race, and then let's also assume that they will want someone notable in the offseason as he has become the face of their franchise. As much as you and I know it to be the case, they do not want to simply say they were trading that contract. They want to at least be able to hang their hat on someone their fanbase can look forward to watching for the next several years. I really don't see this being possible unless the team trading for Stanton is willing to part with some talent. I also don't see a team being willing to part with some talent without getting some kind of salary relief. So what are you willing to move and for what amount of money are you asking Miami to eat? I think I might go as far as giving them Lopez and a few lower level guys if they'd eat $35-40 million. I'd hate for them to go that far to then give away a quarter of a billion dollars worth of options.- Chisox Baseball on the road Tuesday, August 29th at 7:10 PM
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 09:35 PM) Everyone but Frank Thomas. I would love to see the examples of fan doubt during Franks early years.- Ongoing storm disaster thread
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 09:30 PM) I'm just asking questions, which from my understanding is exactly what science is all about. Uh no. You are missing 99.9% of the scientific process.- Chisox Baseball on the road Tuesday, August 29th at 7:10 PM
QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 07:32 PM) As a fan of baseball, I'm glad Buxton isn't going to be a bust. Another great example of the fact that guys who are raw can take some time to develop.- Prospect Focus: Danny Mendick on the move
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 06:51 PM) Mendick sounds like a player that is easy to root for. It would be nice if he could become the Sox starting SS in a couple of years. That would mean Anderson was a complete failure, which is not good for this franchise. Mendick is Scottish for Tyler Saladino. - Giants interested in Stanton
