  1. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 10:46 AM) Reed has had some success and isn't going to come in cheap, and there isn't a lot of sense getting in a bidding war for a closer for a team that will be .500 at best. If you Fulmer back there and let him get back to his former delivery now that he will have a smaller workload and receives the corresponding uptick in velocity you may have a real piece there that has value. Best case scenario you get your closer for the future or are able to flip him in a Giles type deal to reinforce the rebuild. Worst case he flames out and you get a revolving door back there with Petricka, Goldberg, Jones, and some FA. At least you will know with some degree of likelihood if Fulmer has any role in the future of this franchise. Bring in Jordan Walden and Drew Storen to compete in the closer wheel of death and hope a couple of the guys build enough value to net some prospects next summer. This is what I was thinking. Reed on the open market is probably looking at 3/4 years at $5/6 million per season?
  2. I know it rings hollow, but when it comes to the trade of the International player who shall not be named, what my biggest hope has become is that he is the tip of the iceberg internationally for the White Sox. When you are bringing in 14/15/16 year olds to evaluate I know the bust rate is going to be much higher, but seeing more success happening at the lower levels of the minors hopefully means that the system is starting to see results from Latin America. If we start adding that to an already burgeoning system, that would be huge for having guys flow through the system in the later stages of this rebuild.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 09:26 AM) I don't think that's quite accurate. I think the tigers are just over that threshold of where you need to be Dodgers level wealthy to have as much dead cash as that. Once they hit a certain level I think they operate closer. They also were bat heavy in a time of pitcher demand. Castellanos would be ideal in a certain market. But for Verlander and Wilson I think they did well. Missed the boat with Fulmer though. Most of the big horses have cashed out. Yeah, I said Tigers, I meant Astros. Houston seems to value their prospects way higher than money. It wouldn't have taken much more prospects to land them a Gray or Quintana, but they didn't. Instead they got an older and way more expensive pitcher who has had some pretty bad years recently, who is signed up for a really long time.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 09:18 AM) Verlander at this year verlander is worth 20 mill. Can't believe how much Tigers got back for him, honestly. It is odd how much the Tigers value prospects over cash. It wouldn't have taken that much more to get a guy without nearly as much of a contract around his neck, much younger, and probably with a better future in front of him.
  5. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 08:30 AM) Like I said, I didn't expect much, and they didn't get much. This particular player has already been a pro for 4 seasons, hasn't hit at all, and will be Rule 5 eligible next year (as I read the rule), so he isn't my cup of tea among the "lottery ticket" types. Re Gonzalez, despite an average career, he pitched great the last month, so yes I hoped for something a little better. Didn't expect it, but hoped. LMAO. I mean seriously, what are you expecting? I mean too bad Rick Hahn didn't run this by you.
  6. Anything you get for Gonzalez is a bonus. I am shocked this happened literally right after he pitched, but very happy. The kid sounds as raw as they come, and hasn't really advanced since he was drafted, but hey. It's a lottery ticket.
  7. Last I saw he had rejected the trade. Crazy.

  20. QUOTE (zisk @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 12:36 PM) If the Sox are smart they would be wise to move Migo regardless of return. He's too good right now and could cost them 3-4 positions in next years draft. The difference between 2nd and 6th pick is going to be really small. Derek Hol- land should gets as many starts as possible. The gave up Clippard and paid almost all of his salary, and STILL got nothing. If Miguel Gonzalez is still here, it is because no one wants him.
  21. QUOTE (ron883 @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 11:52 AM) To be honest, only a dolt who has no knowledge of these prospects would predict these guys to be as bad as Fulmer. The only way I see these guys pitching like Fulmer is if they are pitching while injured. His stuff is nowhere near what those guys have. You are just conjuring up garbage hypothetical situations again, though. With your track record on player prognostication, I would watch who you call names.
