Reverse Standings Thread
People keep talking about winning percentage, but unless there is a team that isn't making up games, all teams will eventually play 162 games for the season. Do any teams have games they aren't making up?

Giolito Gem and a White Sox winner
I don't think anyone could argue the stuff, it has always been about getting him to do this repeatedly for entire games, and then from game to game. The arm has always been there which is why he was drafted in the first round even facing TJS.

Avi Hot streak
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 3, 2017 -> 12:32 PM) I still have my doubts on him and apparently so does Hahn who a few weeks ago left open the possibility of Avi not being around when the team is good. Hahn talking about dealing doesn't mean he has doubts about him. Did he have doubts about Chris Sale and Jose Quitana as well? What Hahn said is perfectly consistent with the philosophy that no man is untouchable. If he gets his price for Avi, he'd be gone. That is no different than anyone else on this team.

Avi Hot streak
QUOTE (Tony @ Sep 3, 2017 -> 10:38 AM) So based on your premise.......why would a team give the Sox ANY sort of value for Avi Garcia? This is practically a meme on Soxtalk. This guy sucks. The Sox should trade him for a lot.

Avi Hot streak
QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Sep 3, 2017 -> 08:11 AM) Two things: 1. They were talking on the broadcast about how Avi has one of the highest BABIPs in Sox history, & also, the highest in the league. Therefore, there is (at a bare minimum) a massive degree of regression ahead of him. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...0&sort=12,d 2. Do you believe in this one lucky season of his, or the mediocre pieces of 3+ seasons in which he was a poor player? I maintain that Hahn should sell high on him. There is no way that he will continue this level of performance. Extending him is this FO just begging to be made into a fool once again. The problem is that he has this level of talent in him. This is the player that everyone saw in him as his blew through the minors and into the playoffs with Detroit as a rookie. The problem was always that he had to make adjustments to the game.

sox marketing technique - acquiring attractive players
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 2, 2017 -> 04:21 PM) Ever noticed that baseball players no matter what they look like it's their wives that are often hot. Funny what a minimum wage of half a million dollars a year can do for someone.

Gonzalez to Rangers
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 10:36 PM) Without mentioning names...when he came up there were some "I could hit Gavin Floyd!" posts. He then dropped a dominant season the next year and was key to us making the playoffs. Not to mention the "I won't post on Soxtalk anymore if..." post.

Gonzalez to Rangers
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 10:33 PM) In retrospect you can say that. Floyd was somewhat of a whipping boy here on Soxtalk but maybe I am only remembering later in his career. I seem to recall some " deer in the headlights" comparisons with him. Perhaps if he was better looking .... He was much more appreciated once he left...

Gonzalez to Rangers
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 04:47 PM) It would be silly to "accelerate" the rebuild as you say, which I assume you are implying as bringing in multiple free agents, when the guys in the rotation haven't proven anything. Giolito appears to be a guy who is going to be maddeningly inconsistent for at least the first part of his career, and that may never change. He has absolutely wicked stuff, but his command is very, very off right now, and every player in the major leagues will be able to hit a fastball at 95 MPH if it's up and over the plate, every player can hit a hanging curve, every player can hit a hanging slider, and every player can hit an elevated changeup. Let these guys work and get better next season, and then maybe in 2019 you start looking for reinforcements on the free agent and trade markets. No one should be surprised if Giolito takes the Gavin Floyd route as a starter.

Who is the 2018 Closer
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 04:53 PM) I don't doubt that Fulmer could be an effective reliever, but thrusting a guy who has struggled with his stuff as much as Fulmer has directly into the pressure cooker that is the closer role, even on a bad team, is asking for trouble. Even making him a reliever at this point probably isn't going to be a good idea. The kid needs consistency and repetitions. He gets inconsistent work and much less work out there. His problem is not being able to consistently repeat his delivery and pitches. This just means he gets a fraction of the chances to do that. Let him start at AAA next year.

Lopez, Fulmer and Holmberg to Chicago
Siera SantosVerified account @SieraSantos 3m3 minutes ago Rick Hahn says the team is working on how Carson Fulmer will be used for the remainder of the season. Perhaps one or two more starts. Scott MerkinVerified account @scottmerkin 4m4 minutes ago Fulmer's role hasn't been identified yet . Sounds as if he will pitch in relief but also get some starts

Lopez, Fulmer and Holmberg to Chicago
Fulmer is probably the best example in recent years of the damage you can do by pushing a pitcher too fast.

a 30 year old the Bulls got in a previous deal who has never seen the NBA. That must qualify as "compensation" in the deal for New Orleans.

2016 International Class progress
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 11:04 AM) I'll be honest, we really need to see several more of these guys hit full season ball before I get excited. It's happening as we speak. There might be some slowing because of the crazy influx of players to this system, but the big step is getting them to push out of the DSL and have some amount of success in Arizona. We are seeing that. The thing to keep in mind is that these kids are incredibly raw, and the learning curve is going to be much steeper for many. It might seem like slow motion, but there are signs of life down there.

2016 International Class progress
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 10:57 AM) I agree. He's a major, major, major gut punch. I've been really down on Paddy because I would have thought we'd start seeing more return, but this 2016 class looks like a good year and it seems like one he was given more resources for + the beginning of the DR facility paying dividends. If he's right on Robert, that's a big win. Even above that we are starting to see results from the previous classes. Micker Adolfo had a great year. A guy like Luis Martinez is pushing through the system. Carlos Perez improved a lot as the season went on. These guys are filling up the rosters in Arizona and Great Falls.

September Call Ups
QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 09:49 AM) A lot of names mentioned not on the 40-man. I think the Sox are at 37, but could 60-day Nate Jones. My list only has one guy off of the 40 man roster quite on purpose.
