Catchers, Catchers, Anywhere?
It's the returns, not the players. Anyone with half a brain knew guys were going to go at the deadline, but the question is what we got for them, not that we traded them. For example, if the Sox didn't need to dump Dominguez to save a few bucks, they could have sent a lessor prospect than Smith.

Thank god for that.

“The 78” + "The Railyard" = the future of the Sox and Fire
Yeah there is way the Sox leave their current site in 2029. This might be an 8 to 10 year timeline to get EVERYTHING done with all of the complexities that need to happen before a ballpark can even start.

Davis Martin to IL, McDougal optioned to AAA, Urquidy & Schweitzer recalled
In either scenario the Sox should have picked up the contract and send a lot less in return.

Davis Martin to IL, McDougal optioned to AAA, Urquidy & Schweitzer recalled
They were obviously hiding him and didn't want to use him and kind of ran out of options with the early exit of Martin.

Kitty was my first favorite player as a kid. He's also a legit Region Rat.

He's also got a pretty solid history of being bad. I think this is more likely regression to the mean. He's also not alone.

Mat Ishbia’s estimated net worth has fallen by more than $3B since March.
The Yankees just had a PE firm buy into it. It is happening everywhere.

It's a business at its core. Some companies are poorly run and need new ownership. It happens.

Right or wrong, it sure seems to be a possibility.

I wonder how that affects a potential suspension for Davis?

That's just it. PE is quite literally how Jerry bought the White Sox in 1980. Something over 80% of what bouight the team was OPM. This isn't new. The name of the activity might have changed over the years, but it is the exact same activity.

Because there isn't a massive ocean of existance between Jerry and washing his balls? The last 45 years have been a pretty clear failure when you compare the state of this franchise to the rest of it's peers. A new owner doesn't have to be the second coming to be a really large improvement over what we have seen for the last half century.

I think that is the big idea behind that 78 area, is to turn it into an experience instead of just a ball game. I wouldn't be surprised to see something like a casino, or other large anchor tenents end up there long term.

I kind of compare it to what we saw years ago with the Angels. Disney kind of kept them as a business to generate an annual profit for stockholders. Moreno came in and wanted to set the world on fire. He blew up the franchise value and did a lot of work both on the payroll and on the stadium. The potential is there for sure when you look at other similar situations.

I think that kind of goes back to how the team invest. The Padres aren't afraid to spend, whereas the Sox were more worried about surface parking lots. They could have built themselves a ballpark complex in Bridgeport, but chose to keep it as parking lots. And honestly, I have only what I have seen with the Suns to have an idea what to expect from Ishbia, but it looks like they weren't afraid to spend. Also with the Amtrak project, it doesn't seem like they only want to do the minimum like we saw with New Comiskey. Who knows how it ends up, but after 45 years of Jerry, I am more than excited to try something new.

The Glaring Question - Sox Starting Pitching
Honestly going forward if Shane Smith is anywhere close to last year, he can at least give you innings, even if he isn't giving you front line stuff. Not sure if he is broken forever, or if they figured out how to get him back on track. It's so hard to take a single MiLB start and take too much out of it.

I think the question that we are seeing here is short term profitablility year over year, versus return on investment in terms of valuation. Think of how the White Sox have been operated versus how the Padres were. The Sox cut and raise payroll annual based on revenues with the goal of a slight dollar profit for investors year over year. If revenues fall short, payroll gets chopped, but in general, the team does everything it can to stay in the green annually. The last six year were the exception, but mostlly because a series of unexpected bad things happened, though the teams behavior to cut dollars did follow to form. Then take SD who never turns an annual profit, but because of their spending has attracted large investments and interest to them, so instead of an annual profit, the value of the franchise exploded at a MUCH larger rate than the White Sox did. Despite their location, they are worth about double what the Sox are. So while the profit return wasn't there, the overall rate of return on investment was much greater through the extra billions in valuation. In stock market terms are you chasing dividends or returns? Both have their profit, but I think the latter actually generates larger returns overall.

I think you meant this for Tray and Jerry.- 8/13 Reds at Sox 12:10 PM
But should have been obvious- 8/13 Reds at Sox 12:10 PM
Seeing the replay, I kind of wonder if his reaction after it helped with him seeming to go towards Stewart and then being separated out by an ump... wonder if he said something that affected it too.- 8/13 Reds at Sox 12:10 PM
They went for it a little bit, but not a lot. Like I said then, they did the minimum. - The Glaring Question - Sox Starting Pitching
