Well if this was the case for the Sox it makes a ton of sense because they have yet to find players they seem to be able to work with as they have failed with highly ranked prospects, highly drafted prospects, top rated international prospects, and everything else down the line. It must be why they have an affinity for older utility guys, but not raw or flawed prospects.

And let's be honest here, who cares how fast your 1B is? They need two step range, and should be bashing the ball out of the park. The last thing you are worried about is them stealing an extra base. Unfortunately with Vaughn we are getting none of that.

He's actually only in the bottom third according to Fangraphs from last year. 18th lowest out of 43 hitters with 300 or more PAs in the 1b category. Of course Gavin Sheets was worse.

Not giving him a single MiLB AB and then also stuffing into a position he had never played before is negligence. Granted, we will never know if this missed his development window, but nothing has changed with him since the changes in the organization. In fact he has gotten worse pretty much across the board since they happened.

It is absolutely fair to say this. The game is loaded with 4A players who bombed at the major league level after destroying the minors. The game is not littered with teams coming off of 121 loss seasons with a perpetually declining 1B who is currently literally the worst player in the game of MLB. Even if you don't turf Vaughn, it might be worth just finding a way to get him some days off. Dude is a trainwreck right now. If it's Elko, cool. If it is someone else, great.

Can't wait to get to the next awful players.
