2005 Sox Best World Series Team of the Decade?
QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Dec 24, 2009 -> 10:20 AM) Ah, the '84 Tigers. Baseball's version of the '85 Bears. Best team ever to only win one title. I watched Jack Morris no-hit the Sox on opening day that year and knew that team was destined for greatness. Morris, Hernandez, Trammel, Whitaker, Parrish, Lemon, Gibson, Evans, etc (and special mention to Rusty Kuntz just because he has the best name ever in baseball). Just a dominant team that still stands in the memories of baseball fans to this day. Started out 35-5, including the Sox having a great series against them. They were amazing.

2009 Cubs thread
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 24, 2009 -> 09:40 AM) The Cubs will still give him a chance to close when Marmol either implodes or explodes his elbow. The Nats will let him do it from day one though.

2005 Sox Best World Series Team of the Decade?
QUOTE (joeynach @ Dec 23, 2009 -> 10:29 PM) There is no mention in this article, but If I recall correctly didn't the sox set some sort of crazy record that year for consecutive games played with a lead. Something like the first 42 or 43 games they had a lead IIRC.

2005 Sox Best World Series Team of the Decade?
They have to be the team of the decade. They were in first every single day of the year, plus they tied a record 11-1 in the post season. In other words there was exactly one day all season long where they weren't either in first place, or leading a playoff series. That is the very definition of total dominance.

Your 2000 Chicago White Sox
QUOTE (WCSox @ Dec 23, 2009 -> 04:58 PM) Excluding the strike year, I consider the '84 Sox to be the most disappointing in my lifetime. We had almost all of the same tools in place plus Tom Seaver, but Greg Luzinski was done, Britt Burns was nearing the end of his career with that degenerative hip, LaMarr Hoyt's drug problem had caught up with him, Julio Cruz was no longer a prolific base-stealer, and Floyd Bannister had a below-average year. Not that we would've beaten the Tigers in the ALCS, but it would've been fun to watch them try. No doubt about it.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 23, 2009 -> 05:07 PM) IIRC, we can not offer a contract until like March or April to anyone from our team who we did not offer arbitration to. I thought someone said they changed that rule.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 23, 2009 -> 03:04 PM) Angels Reach Agreement With Fernando Rodney By Tim Dierkes [December 23 at 2:57pm CST] 2:57pm: The Angels have agreed to terms with Fernando Rodney, according to ESPNDeportes.com's Enrique Rojas (Jorge Arangure of ESPN passes on the translated news via Twitter). Rodney will sign a two-year deal worth $11MM. Wow the Tigers are losing good players left and right... I guess that's good for us. Detroit is bleeding cash. They are in huge trouble.

2009 Cubs thread
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 23, 2009 -> 06:25 PM) Wow.. he had to choose between the two, and he's picking the horrid (though up and comming through the farm) franchise over the loveable losers. I don't think I've ever been a bigger Matt Capps fan. I gotta ask though... how much more was the Nats paying him over the Cubs.. if at all? NVM.. I found something.. Yeah, if he can close at all, it is his chance at a big paycheck. I'd take the promotion too.

Yankees near deal for Javy Vazquez & Boone Logan
It is nice to see that Javy might not win when it matters, but he can still generate the same arguments as always...

BA goes to the BIG TIME!!!
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 23, 2009 -> 07:07 PM) This might have been a popular rebuttal in 2006 or 2007. Now? I think we all realize Brian is a bust of a prospect with the maximum upside of a 4th outfielder. Yep. I think the Brian Anderson defenders have gone the way of the American Indian.

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 23, 2009 -> 04:59 PM) But...there's one big issue that can come back there...if there's even a moderate economic contraction...how does the government survive? As long as the cash lasts.

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 23, 2009 -> 09:11 AM) But let's also note that there's a serious imbalance there...the labor costs issue should in normal times have begun to correct itself by the value of the Yuan increasing relative to the U.S. dollar given the size of the global trade deficit. The Chinese government is actively making sure that doesn't happen. The best part of it, is that they have built themselves a house of cards based on the value of the US dollar. They are the ultimate bubble economy on this planet right now. It is not a matter of if, but when. Throw in the ginormous public dependancy on their government, and the incredible amount of ineffeciency they get out of it, and you are primed for something worse than the Soviet collapse when all of the juggling balls fall. Right now they are keeping afloat on the hard currency that comes in from the US, but IMO if these recession is anything but quick, China as we know it disappears into chaos.

So if you took the time that Sacto rallied at the end against the Bulls, and combined it with the period the Knicks got up 22 to make it a 48 minute game, the Bulls were outscored 113-52 during that time.

Official 2009-2010 NHL Thread
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 23, 2009 -> 01:26 AM) I am a new follower to the game which I've stated many times here. If I was Tony, Keith, Mike, Joe, etc.. I can understand and will take the ripping since they have been hockey fans for a long time. I gotta get used to some of the names past and present. This isn't SoxAce from 04-07 who mocked hockey fans (like yourself) and the game entirely, though I'm still not "big" on it. Hell prior to 2008, there were only a handful of hockey players I ever heard of. Gretzky, Orr and Lemieux. (Chelios/Roenick/Savard as far as Hawk players) Welcome to the club! The more the merrier! Unless you are Red Wings fan.
