  1. QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 09:56 AM) can we say joe cowley did again opps QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 09:58 AM) joe cowley was all over this and same with putz... so i guess the asshole does have good sources QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 10:03 AM) i thought that cowley was sarcastic with kenny ready pounce.. lmao Seriously, once was plenty. Grow up or go away.
  2. All righty, there is our leadoff hitter, for better or for worse.
  3. QUOTE (BearSox @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 09:56 PM) weve actually had a good track record with pitchers though... hitters on the other hand. Yeah, trading for Paul Konerko was a huge mistake, as was Carlos Quentin. The Jermaine Dye and AJP signings crippled us for years.
  4. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 06:10 PM) That's a big load you're heaping on the Breeders. That's what she said...
  5. Very astute observation.
  6. QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 12:22 AM) Yeah, for as much as they surprise you with what they know, kids still really aren't that bright. At that age most of what you have to do is figure out how to limit the # of stupid things they can do. Now leave the college kids out of this
  7. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 06:20 AM) They are gonna be paying a lot of money to Pujols and Holliday for the next couple seasons if this contract is signed No joke, you are looking at $35 to $40 million a year for two players.
  8. QUOTE (hitlesswonder @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 09:34 PM) Unfortunately, the Alex Rios move was a bust. He has a .775 career OPS. In 2009 he had a sub .700 OPS. The Sox are paying 10 million a year for a Brian Anderson clone: an awful hitter whose defense is vastly over-rated. Rios contract is why the Sox couldn't get Figgins this off-season. The Alex Rios claim is a disaster. Good God almighty. This is the exact same crap that was said about Jose Contreras right after the Loiaza deal was made. Can we give it a season at least before declaring him a bust?
  9. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 08:59 PM) If Carrasco goes somewhere else and gets blown up no one will ever really come back and say it was a smart move to not tender him. If he signs for anything more than what the Sox offered him, you can damned well bet someone in the media will call the Sox cheap. Even if it is December-April, before any results on the field actually happen, someone will make sure to call Kenny or JR cheap.
  10. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 07:08 PM) Sick goal yes, but there was indeed a ton of luck involved. He would catch and make contact with that puck a bunch, but it wouldn't find the net or a corner nearly as often as he'd like. Now if he could do that routinely and put it wherever he wanted, sure. But Toews goal was much more skilled. Guys without his skill couldn't even attempt a maneuver like that, just like Toews had to have a bit of luck to pull off his moves against COL. If anyone of the defenders or goalies does something a bit differently, his goal doesn't happen and we aren't talking about it two years later. They both take luck, but can't happen without the skill both of these guys have.
  11. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 04:39 PM) Cowley may be to blame for Carrasco's departure. http://espn.go.com/chicago/columns/blog/_/...432/name/levine The Putz leak drove the price up by $500,000, and DJ and the team were reportedly only a couple hundred thousand apart. And now he gets to write about how cheap the Sox are... Its win-win for him.
  12. LOL. 1994. Nice timing. Funny he didn't fight it from 1984 to 1993.
  13. QUOTE (pktmotion @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 03:18 PM) Just heard on ESPN Radio that an Adrian Gonzales trade is happening soon, they didn't talk about teams though. Was it speculation or reporting?
  14. QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 02:49 PM) So even though Kendall, who is basically a warm body at this point, got 2yrs, you don't think a guy who hit 30 home runs can get a 2 year contract? Nick Johnson is going to get 2 years, so thats what Branyan will ask for. Someone will pay. Kendall also plays the most difficult to fill defensive position AND he got half of the money you are talking about. You also throw around "hit 30 home runs" like it is something big. The guy has done it once in his career. He is also turning 34 in a few days. He also strikes out once every three ABs, is a horrible defender, and just hit over .250 for the first time his career when he had over 200 ABs. No one is giving Russell Branyon a 2 year, $14 million contract. It just isn't going to happen.
  15. QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 02:42 PM) He and Pods are in the same boat. They might settle for a little less but someone will give them the money (coughsabeancoughcoughminayacough) No one is paying either one of those guys that kind of money, especially for a multi-year deal.
  16. QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 02:32 PM) Thought I saw it on LL or MLBTR but now searching a bit I don't see anything. Still likely to be too pricey at 2 yrs 6-7MM each, which is a more realistic contract. Realistics? For Branyon? There is no way.

    QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 02:02 PM) Much better than the first one. Which isn't saying much. Its like saying the Nationals could get better.
  19. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 01:55 PM) Marian Hossa is a better Hockey player than Marty Havlat, but make no mistake, they are both world class offensive talents. The biggest difference between Hossa and Havlat is that Hossa is far superior defensively and can create offensive by creating turnovers, an dimension of his game that marty's lacks. Hossa is one of the game's superstars. If nothing else, bringing him to Chicago was a stroke of genius for having him there for Kane and Toews to learn from.
  20. QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 01:40 PM) Word on the street is he's looking for 2-3 years at 10MM each. No thanks. Where in the heck did you see that?
  21. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 12:22 PM) Guillen did say the Sox won't sign a DH who can't play the field and was talking about Matsui at the time. While I'm certain that Guillen would like a versatile DH, part of me thinks that comment might have been part a negotiating tacitc. Matsui has made it clear that he wants to play the field a couple of days a week. I'm sure most teams see him as a full-time DH as they should. Saying we want a DH who can play the field could give the Sox a slight advantage from the get-go. I'd be willing to tolerate Matsui in LF once or twice a week to start the season if that made the difference in signing him or not. If he couldn't meet those demands, as I would expect, I'd just hope that Guillen would eventually stick him at DH full-time. Ozzie isn't the one negotiating contracts either.
