GOP Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 07:46 AM) Yeah. If it was around 50/50, you could say it was just random. But at that low a success rate, its almost as if being an early front-runner itself has a negative effect in the Democratic races. The strange thing is that the two parties have completely different trend lines. It would be one thing is there was some sort of correlations between parties because then you could say something like people get sick of leaders, or the opposite. The fact that they are both so different is what stands out.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 06:38 PM) Interesting story on the accuracy of polls 1 year before elections for the Presidency. Short version of the story: for Dems, the person leading 1 year out almost never wins the nomination. For the GOP, the leader 1 year out almost always does. Wow. You would think there would be some correlation there. That is pretty odd that it is almost completely inverse.

GM's vote 25-5 for HR call replay
I'd almost bet the Sox and Yankees were two of the teams voting no because of their staying behind Selig.

Uribe Re-signed
Well we should know something soon... Today is the deadline. Anyone know what the exact time of the deadline is?

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 11:07 AM) Selig needs to go. We need a new Kennesaw Mountain Landis-type character at this stage. Someone not afraid to kick a few asses. Here is a question - how does Selig lose his job? Can the owners fire him with a majority or something? How does that even work? It would take 3/4s of owners voting to remove him.

Theoretically 3/4s of the owners could vote him out. In reality, Selig is one of the owners own, and there is no chance he leaves before he wants to do so.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 10:39 AM) Doesnt have to be gold diggers. How about the girls who just know they NEED to be married and have a baby by the time they are 30. They may not be interested in someone giving them everything, but they KNOW that this has been their plan since they were younger. They have a time line and dammit they are sticking to it. ALOT of girls are like this, and it also contributes to the divorce rate. If they are upfront about it, the only that is contributing to the divorce rate is the guy who is dumb enough to not listen to her. I have no problem if a woman wants to set goals and be upfront about them. I do have a problem is they do not inform the other person about that stuff.

QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 09:21 AM) I wonder if there's 100 pct correlation between guys who have been busted for corking their bats and guys who took steroids. In all seriousness, if a person lacks the moral compass to stop them from cheating in one form, why would they have the moral compass not to cheat in another form? It doesn't surprise me at all that juicers would also cork bats, or cheat in any other way they could think of.

The Office
QUOTE(The Bones @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 07:53 PM) reportedly neither steve carell nor rainn wilson showed up to the set today which means we may be getting reruns as soon as thanksgiving. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/conten...9fab74c982dd81e http://www.officetally.com/ this strike really sucks for the fans but i completely understand where the writers are coming from here. Seriously, this strike could be as bad for Hollywood as the NHL strike was for hockey a few years back. There are very few things good on TV, and if you start cancelling them, people might never come back. Ratings are already falling like the Cubs in September on network TV. If they pull this out too long, it could be ugly.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 04:23 PM) Random question for the board... anyone have any experiences with Ford dealerships in Chicago or the surrounding area they'd like to share? Any recommended dealers, or places to avoid? Hirsch Ford in Michigan City is pretty good. They are a good dealership and they give a lot back to the community , that is if you wanted to drive all of the way out here...

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 02:22 PM) Both made mistakes, but McGovern was just honest about his intentions and failed to moderate himself at all. On the other hand, Mondale started out his general election bid by promising to raise taxes. Whoops. FWIW, McG has also endorsed Hill.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 07:25 AM) Thanks man, I really appreciate it. Sometimes softball gets a bad rap that it is full of people who cannot forget their high school years and are basically a bunch of red asses who argue everything and think they are in the world championships at all times. My team is just the opposite, its a bunch of guys who like to compete, but dont take it so seriously that we lose control. We really have a great bunch of guys, and it was such a good time all season. I have one more league playoff on this upcoming thursday, and then I will be done for the season. Critic, I have a guy on my team who is famous for watching the 3rd strike drop in front of his face. I dont understand that either, especially in situations where you are supposed to swing, like the situation your pitcher was in. Softball is a hitting game, you have to be ready to hit. Speaking of pet peeves, that is one of mine right there. Why would you play softball if you didn't want to swing the bat? Unless the pitch is crazy bat, swing the freaking bat!

2007-2008 NHL Catch All Thread
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 02:10 PM) This season is going to take at least a couple of years off my life. I want to complain but really, I can't. Why? - They're .500 despite playing without their best player. And yes, as good as Toews and Kane have been, I still see Havlat as the best player (when healthy, which is obviously a huge issue). - Even with Toews and Kane, this is still a team that's lacking in talent, especially on the blueline. We have a bunch of defensemen who are good 5-6 types but are being asked to do more than that. We're also asking Seabrook and Keith to be a one and two, and they aren't ready for it, either. Really? Sopel is and has been better than anything anyone could've hoped for considering he was signed what, a week before the season starts? He's not very physical and he's rather slow but he's our best passing defenseman and generally makes good decisions with the puck. He and Wisniewski (outside of last night -- Wisniewski was brutal yesterday) have been our best two. Of course, this goes back to what I said above -- Sopel isn't a top pairing defenseman but unfortunately, he's the best we have. I don't get all the complaining about Lang. He's doing exactly what he was brought here to do -- score a bit and play a decent center. If you expected him to get down and dirty in the defensive end and fight for loose pucks, you (apparently) didn't see him play with the Red Wings. He is what he is... a player in the final few years of his career who's declining but is still a decent (not great, probably average) number two centerman. Look who he's playing with, for cripes sakes -- Adam Burish and Patrick Sharp were his linemates last night, IIRC. Come on now -- if I were to make a list of players on this team I'd complain about, I think it'd be a stretch for Lang to be in the top ten. As far as Seabrook, he was benched the whole third last night. That's very discouraging -- he CANNOT take a step backwards last year, especially with Barker's stagnation. I'm not going to say I expected these first 12 (?) games to go like this, but it doesn't surprise me. They've had fantastic come from behind wins, they've beat Detroit (twice!), they won on the road at Toronto. And then they've had sleepers like last night and the Atlanta game. Get Havlat back, keep him relatively healthy and I'd say your looking at a team fighting for that 8th spot in the West. And really, coming into this season, could you ask for anything more? This team was never going to be a cup type team, especially with the incredible teams in their confrence. For me, these type of seasons are more fun because I would much rather be watching at team on the upswing with no expectations. How can you be disappointed? If the kids show up, give you a thrill, and progress, it was a good season. They need to get deeper and more experienced before they are going to be anymore than a fringe team now anyway.
