  1. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 05:04 PM) Mark Gonzalez speculates in his article today that the Marlins have been scouting the White Sox, and perhaps they may have some interest in Brian Anderson. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines If anyone gives us the time of day for Anderson, he'll be an ex-White Sox quicker than Jose Pantiagua.
  2. The timing of this is really funny. I still think Mark gets signed, and this is just a dog and pony show to scare him into not forcing the NTC into the negotitaions.
  3. After we released him because he "couldn't get loose"
  4. The triple is the most exciting play in baseball.
  5. Of cour$e Bora$$ want$ to add more game$ to the World $erie$.
  6. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 03:31 AM) 94 wins, 46 losses, 107 complete games, 2.28 ERA. .342 batting average, 714 HR, 2213 RBI. Bonds has passed Ruth's home run numbers, but he can never surpass Ruth's impact on the game. Its an interesting theory, but I think Bonds ushered in a new era just like Ruth did. The only thing was that Bonds ridiculousness brought about the end of the drug era, while Ruth ended the deadball era. It will be interesting to see how long this reverberates through baseball.
  7. Good for Jenks. Its too bad that Mark and Jon won't make it, but I am glad Bobby is on it again.
  8. No mention on velocity though... I wonder where he was at?
  9. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 08:33 AM) Menards has a huge light bulb variety. I've bought 3 ways there but only for table lamps. I didn't even know ceiling fans were made with 3 way options. Ack, those were two different things... 3 way bulbs And smaller sized bulbs for ceiling fans Sorry! QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 08:34 AM) They definitely do for ceiling fans (as ours burn out we're replacing them with the "new" ones)... but I don't know about the three way bulbs. Neither our Wal-Mart or Meijer has either. I'll have to try the home stores then...
  10. A question for the Soxtalk enviornmental wing... Do they make the energy effecient lightbulbs in 3 way form (for the 50-100-150 lamps), and do they make them in a smaller form for things like ceiling fans?
  11. Well my dad just had a complete knee replacement done at the VA in Indy. The surgery was an adventure, because he had such awful damage for so long, what should have been an hour and a half surgery took almost seven hours because they actually had to realign his leg bones first, before they could take care of the knee, because the knee was so bad that they had gone out of kilter. The big thing was he remarked how it was the best VA visit he has ever had, and that goes back to 1969. He said the staff was incredibly nice and helpful, and they had a ton of volunteers in the hospital, doing all kinds of "we appreciate our veterans" kind of stuff. Hopefully this means that finally making fiascos like the care of our veterans public, is finally turning the system around a little bit.
  12. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 10:49 AM) Of course. But they are here because of demand, as a country, it is in our best interest to make certain that we respond in our best interest, not what is politically popular today. We'd be cutting off our nose to spite our face by just deporting 12,000,000 WORKERS and their families. The businesses will suffer and so will we. Put in a plan that fills the needs of American business and controls the number of immigrants, I'm more in favor of reducing the H1B VISA program and creating more high end jobs for Americans than trying to push low end jobs on Americans. Our education system is better than that. The demand and work stuff is getting silly for me. There are how many drug dealers and gangs are making a living in this country, should we open up the borders to cocaine and heroin too? Just because people are trying to make a buck, should it excuse and illegal activity? If a guy was selling child pornography to get some money, would you be OK with that too? Would it be any better if he was taking that money and sending it back to support his wife and kids? Somehow I doubt it. I also don't agree with the assumption that just because people are American's that they are somehow better than people who aren't when it comes to the jobs they can work. To me that is racist. I don't see why American's can do any job that their skill set dictates. Now I know you will fire back with the cute little line about my kids picking oranges, or something like that, but if that is what they are best suited to do, there is no shame in working for a living. If they don't want to do a blue collar job for a living, they can stay in school and do something else. To me they aren't any better than someone else just because of where they were born. I won't buy into the zenophobic attitude that American's can't work for a living, while forgeiners are the ones who have to do these jobs. It reeks of a caste attitude. QUOTE(NUKE @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 09:01 PM) In this case, business NEEDS to suffer. They openly flout the laws of this country all in the name of profit and saddle the rest of us with the burden of providing these criminals with social services. Which is another irony in this debate. People throw huge fits about the amount of corporate welfare dolled out by the government, aka the taxpayers, in this country. Now there is the chance to cut down probably the biggest corporate welfare program of all, illegal immigration, and give the natural wages in many of the onerous industries a chance to rise, along with benefits to attract willing employees. Instead many are perfectly willing to let exploitation reign here, and are willing to pay for it. The sad thing is that in one case people who are American citizens benefit by and large, and in the other, people who are not citizens benefit... Guess which ideal has a larger popularity rating? Strange.
  13. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 07:28 PM) Since it appears that at least two of the people involved were doctors, and not the poverty-stricken victims that were forced into jihad, can we now cross poverty off as the root cause of terrorism? It is time to seriously consider restricting immigration of all Muslims to our country. Besides the timing of the bombing, this was the other really interesting thing to emerge out of this situation. To me there is one big Al Qaeda trademark missing, because there was no public message to PM Brown offering him the chance to stop killing Muslims or face a Jihad. To me the attack also seems a little low brow for an Al Qaeda attack, but maybe with the "big" plots seemingly not happening now for whatever reason, this is the new face of terrorism. It will be interesting to see what comes out of the investigations.
  14. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 05:28 AM) From today's suntimes--No 'no-trade clause' for Contreras "Last week at Tampa Bay, right-hander Jose Contreras said he would waive his no-trade clause if the Sox wanted to deal him. But according to the organization, Contreras' trade-clause option ran out in November 2006. That means the Sox can move him to whichever team they want. Contreras is rumored to be sought by the New York Mets, Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers." http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...soxnt02.article Well that certianly makes things more interesting...
  15. QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 04:52 PM) Whoever the guy on this site who said you'd be back the very next day after saying you were "done" with this team, congrats. They were right, here you are. Is a Soxtalk fact of life, the guys who cry the loudest are never the ones who go away...
  16. He sounds like a regular Jeff Foxworthy....
  17. There is the crazy thing... The British finally get rid of Blair, and it is a perfect moment for Islam to step in and work to make the right wing people look bad, but trying to work with the new PM. Instead they instantly put the pressure on Brown by all of these potential attacks. What sense does that make? It puts the pressure on Brown to keep after the Islamists.
  18. Great game by Danks tonight. His watching and talking to Mark Buehrle finally paid off as he worked quickly, and all over the strike zone, instead of trying to be perfect. I don't know if this was him turning the corner, but I liked what I saw. The one big downer tonight for me was Josh Fields looking terrible at the plate. He still can't hit a fastball, and that scares me. 0-5 with 3Ks and 3 LOB is not very good. The one thing I really noticed with him is that he never swings at the first pitch, even though the pitchers always seem to groove him a fastball to get ahead in the count. As much as he Ks I would like to see him sacrifice his looking for walks, and be ready to swing right away. Heck he only has 6 walks in about 80 PA anyway, so its not like he is getting on at some awesome clip to make up for the terrible BA. On a side note, its funny how close to identical Joe Crede and Josh's stats are right now. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/stats/sort...amp;compare.y=4
  19. Teach Jihad early and often...
  20. He's not going to recover over night... breaking down and rebuilding a young pitcher with this many bad habits takes time. It really might be 2009 before he is "ready" for the majors.
  21. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 03:07 PM) I'd vote him into the hall. Me too. The guy had HOF numbers before he ever was accused of cheating, and because of the wimpy players union and management we have no way of knowing who else did or did not cheat. Without information it is pretty much a witchhunt.
  22. QUOTE(CubsSuck1 @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 02:26 AM) I understand that Paul's candidacy is a long shot at best, but I hope that his ideals may at least somewhat influence the GOP and balance out some of the neo-conservatism. I'm somewhat surprised that constitutionalism and a non interventionist foreign policy can be considered radical, but hell what do I know? Actually before the term was hi-jacked, Paul would be considered probably the truest economic conservative out there. He actually believes in totally free markets and zero government intervention, along with balanced budgets.
  23. I am going to hold out a little hope, as this stuff seems to happen here... Both Scott Skiles and Jose Contreras negotiations were "over" before they resigned.
  24. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 10:44 PM) Im going from what Blazer fans say themselves, I also never heard of the incident.... if it was darius miles than yes It wasn't Miles it was Ruben Patterson, and again, that is the only incident that you heard about. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 10:43 PM) Are you telling me Zambrano and Kent are bad teammates? GTFOH. Yeah, I don't know as much about Kent, but I don't think Zambrano is much of a teammate.
  25. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 10:41 PM) I just like to say Randolph is not thought of a bad teamate, from all reports I read he is a very good teamate and fits well with teamates. Now on the court he is kind of a blackhole on offense as in once the ball goes to him the movement stops. That doesnt change his criminal record or his poor defense though. A good teammate punches guys on his own team? That's news to me.
