Andy Gonzalez: SuperSub or Superman?
Andy has been a surprisingly decent player this year. He has played solid defense everywhere they have put him, and he seems to help the team most of the time at the dish. He isn't great or anything, but a supersub seems like a good career for him.

QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:44 PM) the s***ball classic is indigenous to Soxtalk..... much like the prarie dog to this region.... btw prairie dog is Mark Buehrle's 2nd favorite dog like animal. (i think i read it somewhere) I luv that duck. QUOTE(knightni @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:58 PM) Thank you T-Bones. Don't forget to thank Porkchop QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 06:20 PM) So apparently Buehrle told Farmer that he's looking for $14M a year. Seems odd that he'd just mention a fact like that during the broadcast as if it's nothing. Especially for someone who toes the company line so well. I think Farmio just tipped something out of the negotiations. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 06:42 PM) Perhaps Jerry can speak with the board and get them to relax that rule. Sometimes it is forgotten that there are other people's investments to take into consideration on that end. Though, keeping that in mind, the "company" has for the past 7 years put the profits back into the team. Hopefully they put it in the right place and see something in the future to build on. Wouldn't that be some s*** if Mark says no to $12.5M but signs elsewhere for $14M a year... If Mark isn't in Chicago, he is going to sign for WAY more than that. The only way he signs for that little, is if he is a White Sox in 2008. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 08:34 PM) Please...Jordan was being paid nearly $30 million dollars by Reinsdorf in his final years. Once MJ left, Phil did not feel like rebuilding. For all the crap people give Reinsdorf, he is the best owner in this town by far and has been for the past 20 years. More like the best owner this town has ever seen. Who else has brought seven world titles to Chicago?

QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 02:13 PM) Roy's deal was $70M ish.. perhaps a bit under market, but not $20 MILLION under market. AT LEAST. I'll bet in the open market the total dolllars of the deal that is being talked about here is less than half of the deal someone else would give him.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 01:48 PM) Yep, and there's precedent for it as well (the nixed A-Rod-to-Red Sox deal). Yep, and there's precedent for it as well (the nixed A-Rod-to-Red Sox deal). I think others have mentioned it already, but there would be no reason to stop this deal from getting done. Mark Buehrle wouldn't be giving back money that was all ready agreed to, thus reducing the amount of a signed contract. He would just be taking a small contract.

So the over/under of how many posts end up in the thread before a clear answer actually comes out?

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 01:34 PM) It would sound crazy with most people, but Mark Buehrle is a different type of major leaguer than most. I've heard lots of stories of people that know him or have met him, and he strikes me as the type of guy that wouldn't care to get that extra $2-3 million more a year, as he'd be just as happy with the amount offered. He's a simple guy. I could see him taking a deal for less money, as long as it was for enough years. Its not just an extra $2-3 million a year. Its at least an extra $5 million a year, and another 2-3 years at that price.

Jacque Jones to Floridaaaaa
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 05:28 PM) It looks like the Cubs will be paying most of the contract. So essentially the Sox could have dealt Robert Valido for Jones and cash (cause Valido is no different than Abecrombie as far as I'm concerned). Personally I'd have loved to have been the club that made this deal. According the Trib the Cubs were willing to eat $6.6 of the $7.2 million left on Jones deal. Heck for $600,000, Jones is an interesting proposition, depending on who the Cubs are interested in prospect wise. That would free up some money to pursue other placers.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 01:28 PM) Levine talked to Buehrle's agent who said no new negotiations have taken place. One more possible scenario that would make that an accurate statement... Buehrle is revisiting the Sox last offer, which means no "new" talks have indeed taken place. They are just rehashing old talks.

White Sox Devil Rays, 6/27/07 (W)
Well lets hope Mark Buehrle has razorsharp focus tonight, because there are a whole lot of distractions around him right now...

QUOTE(ChiSox9 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 11:49 AM) This was on the White Sox Website: http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=cws That isn't really a denial, but not really a confirmation either... Ah the beat goes on.

THIS DATE IN WHITE SOX HISTORY: JUNE 27

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 11:45 AM) Ok, last speculative comment right here. If Buehrle does come on and says he signed an extension then he went behind his agent's back to get a deal done on his own. Which is possible, seeing as JR has been known to reach out to clients individually, sans an agent.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 10:47 AM) 4/$50M....? Apparently it's "let's get high before we go on the air day" at the Score. If Mark signs this deal, he's stupid. I would suspect the union would beat his ass as well. That's what I keep thinking... Baseballs union is really strong, I would be surprised if they didn't burn $100 bills on his lawn if this happened. QUOTE(whtsox13 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 10:53 AM) A firend of mine said he heard it was 5 yrs/$85 mil. If you are going to make a post like this, please let us know if you friend is relevant, or is just nobody.

So we are going to get Mark Buehrle for that price? I can't believe it. Kenny Williams has just totally called Buehrle's bluff, big time.

White Sox Relievers in Demand?
QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 10:36 AM) Contreras might waive his no trade to pitch for the Mets. He would be reunited with his buddy El Duque. The one place I would bet money that Contreras would never approve a trade to is NYC. The media just ate him for lunch there, and he hated it.

Matthew Thornton
QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 08:50 AM) Yes, Ozzie is mishandling the bullpen by using it. If only he could figure out a way to handle the bullpen properly without ever having to actually bring any of the pitchers(exc. Jenks) into the game. That might be the best post you have ever made.

Unity '08
So Michael Bloomberg took step one towards running under the Unity banner yesterday and announced he is leaving the Republician party, after leaving the Democrats only a few years early... I think someone has been shopping at the John Kerry House of Flip-Flops...

Barrett traded to the Padres
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 10:06 AM) Cubs have been playing better without Barrett of late... addition by subtraction here. Exactlty. this is a deal where you take your losses and move on. Barrett must have been a total asshole if they shipped him out for that little.

What is Mark Buerhle worth?
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 08:21 AM) I'm going to be sad no matter what if Mark leaves. Now, if you're talking about just being mad at Mark for taking more money, I'd only be angry if he left for like 5 and 85 instead of 5 and 80 or something like that. I don't ever blame players for leaving for a considerable amount of more money, unless of course they b**** out the organization or something like that. I'm talking about mad at the Sox and/or Kenny Williams
