Catch-All Anything Thread
QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 11:45 AM) The same CD for months? All day long... every day...? Yes, big bonus points for it not being BM. Kap and I had a guy on our floor in college who did the samething. One of us stole his CD, we all made copies of it, and then we all played the tapes really loud when he was trying to sleep. He never got his CD back, and I still have it

More detailed article on the KW/Ozzie/PK meeting
QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 12:00 PM) It was pregame. The tables and food weren't out yet. Ah a little redemption... But alas, it was like the Sox offense... Too little too late.

What is Mark Buerhle worth?
So lets hear what you guys would give Mark Buehrle as a final offer if you had the Chicago White Sox checkbook... How many years and how many dollars would you spend?

Buehrle Wants a Five Year Contract
QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 11:56 AM) To me, honestly, I don't know how much sense it really makes to sign him. With the way things are starting to look, what sense does it make to keep him around? If he stays, it means he is making $15 million a year, thereby inhibiting the team's ability to sign other players, and we probably are around a .500 team. What's the point of having a $15 million player if your team is sitting at .500? The best thing to do is probably to rape another team towards the beginning of July (barring a run in the next few weeks) and building for the future. Actually this has the makings of its own thread.

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 11:53 AM) Or.. "Paul, I got a bus to 'anywhere but here' with your name on it...pass it around" Kenny is not afraid to trade anyone...trust me. Another thing... If someone is rooting for the White Sox to lose, that does not make them a bad White Sox fan. They are just not a White Sox fan at all, good or bad. They should move on to another team. The Brewers are in first place. The Cubs are hot (in the media) again. The Indians could use your cynicism. Have fun. I love it when you quote Queen [sigh] I will admit seeing my quote I am a little disappointed in myself for Kenny's rant not being a little more profanity laced, and not including the destruction of an innocent piece of furnature and/or meal.

White Sox Relievers in Demand?
QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 11:07 AM) southsider2k5, yours is a good point as well. The team came out and played with a little extra zip last night. Too bad some of the same stupid mistakes are being made like players getting picked off, and having to use Jenks due to our relievers walking guys. Guillen looked at the end of his rope when asked after the game about Masset's inability to finish the game. I am surprised he wasn't sent down this A.M. Massett would be gone if they had anyone to replace him with. No one else down there is even as ready as Prinz and Buckvich, and that is just sad. I am guessing the only reason we haven't seen a Gio or Gavin Floyd (most likely) is they are waiting for a starting pitcher to get dealt, and they want his pitch count up, instead of using him out of the pen.

Buehrle Wants a Five Year Contract
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 11:35 AM) Here's where KW has to be willing to make a mistake though. What happens if the market doesn't correct itself over the next 3-5 years? In that case, will the Sox let every FA go because they don't want to "overpay", even though overpaying is the norm? If there was one player who JR and company could take the chance on with what might be a bad contract, it's Buehrle. As someone on Comcast said last night, not only is he less of a risk on the field than most pitchers, but the Sox fans would forgive JR and KW in a heartbeat if Buehrle doesn't live up to his contract. Just out of curiousity, how high should the Sox being willing to go in terms of years and dollars?

White Sox vs. Marlins, 6/19/07 (L)
QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 10:57 AM) Will Dye be in there? We need him against left hander I'd bet money he isn't... Guillen always rests guys if they come out for injury, even if they say they are ready to go.

White Sox Relievers in Demand?
Actually it makes perfect sense with what what said yesterday. There are all kinds of reports about teams calling us about players, and us asking for the moon. Kenny gets frustrated because he wants to move players, but he also knows he can't give them away either, or he will get crucified by the local fans and media for "White Flag II". So instead he decides to drag the capitian in and tell them they are all getting traded to where ever he can send them unless they get it going. Maybe this wake up call will work better once they all start thinking about being forced out of their comfort zones here in Chicago. It sounds like vintage Kenny Williams to me.

EU Carbon trade "set to fail"
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 02:48 PM) I can't tell if this is serious. If so, it makes no sense. Of course it can work. In this market, the supply is not of a gas, it's supply of a right to pollute, or a claim on a part of the environment. The supply of that is fixed by the government, by fiat. As long as the government can monitor average pollution levels for every polluter covered by the statute (it's not very difficult to measure plant emissions), it's plain whether a polluter is compliant. You can't "physically limit" radio frequencies, either, but you can award ownership rights to certain frequencies. And when Q101 decides to start broadcasting on 103.5, it won't take too long to put things to rights. You do know this only applies to a particular set of companies, right? It makes perfect sense. You cannot trade carbon as a commodity. There is no fixed supply of pollution, so it will not respond to market conditions correctly. The government plans on monitoring every single company? Good luck with that. If they don't, they are setting up the two America's scenario. On a side note, in my personal reading, I came accross something interesting... One of the leading supports of the Kyoto treaty in corporate American was none other than Enron. It seems they had a special interest in the Carbon credits trading market...

Buehrle Wants a Five Year Contract
QUOTE(zygoat @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 10:33 AM) Crede is cooked, there's no way he'll remain with the organization after this year. As much as it hurts me to say it. He'll be back. He has no trade value what-so-ever.

Buehrle Wants a Five Year Contract
QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 10:07 AM) Somehow I don't think Kenny gives a crap how hot it gets. Recall back in Feb when Kenny spilled the beans when he was caught saying sic "we've accepted Mark wont be here next year...", followed by an apology to Mark and his parents, followed further by a(nother) yelling match at the Saturday Q&A..... I don't know why this fan base will be surprised if nothing happens with Mark, or with the rest of the team in terms of competing for another WS ring anytime soom. The writing was posted pretty clear on the wall at Soxfest. ^^^ The writing has been on the wall for a long time. It is a smart move by Mark to play the game and make himself look good, but he has been all but gone for a while now. The reason guys like Contreras and Vazquez got extentions is because they know Mark isn't coming back, and they want to have at least a couple of known quantities in their pen.

Joe Borchard returns
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 06:38 PM) From what Boz has said, he's a nice guy, and incredibly smart too. ^^^ The hitting clinic he gave years ago at Soxfest was topnotch. It was one of the single best clinics I have ever seen. The kid is incredibly smart, and a student of the game. Too bad it never translated to the playing field.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 08:04 AM) Or.. "Just because you have a cushy contract doesn't mean your ass is safe... " ^ Now we are speaking like Kenny Williams, well it probably needs more four letter words, but you get the idea.

More detailed article on the KW/Ozzie/PK meeting
Nothing personal, but you guys are a bunch of saps if you believe that is how the meeting went. You all are totally buying the company line, instead of thinking critically. First of all, when has Kenny Williams ego ever let him sit down and talk to people like that? Hell he didn't even let Ozzie Guillen have his way with the roster out of spring training (as evidenced by guys like Brian Anderson being on it). Now we are supposed to believe that Kenny sat down with Paul Konerko and asked him what he thought of the roster? Bulls***. The only person KW asks for anything is Jerry Reinsdorf when he is asking for more money. The conversation was probably closer to Kenny sitting down Pauly and saying listen, this is it. "I have tried everything and so has Ozzie. Hell I tried to trade most of your sorry asses, but nobody wants to give me anything for you guys. This is it. If you guys don't get hot NOW, you are all headed out to the highest bidder, no matter how bad that bid is. Now go tell the rest of those b****es unless they want to be shipped out yesterday, wake the hell up." Now that sounds like a Kenny Williams meeting, and not that PC BS that is in the Tribunes fluff piece.
