  1. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 23, 2006 -> 09:00 AM) im going to go out on a limb here. I want Coop to get a chance to fix Kerry Wood. Where would he play?
  2. QUOTE(JimH @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:12 AM) When was Williams drafted out of Stanford? Pretty sure it was before 1989 which I recall was when they drafted Frank. I believe JR's relationship with KW predates JR's relationship with Frank by several years. http://www.baseball-reference.com/w/willike02.shtml Williams played for the Sox from 86-88

  4. I had a great time again. Its too bad there weren't more people there as you all missed a hell of a game.
  5. QUOTE(DABearSoX @ May 22, 2006 -> 08:46 PM) Frank's really sending a message to kenny eh??? HA well i am really glad he got the standing o shows were not classless like cleveland fans..... It sure looked like Jon Garland was "sending a message" with those two pitches Frank hit out. Both pitches were completely centercut, and in the middle of Franks ever shrinking go zone. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ May 23, 2006 -> 09:57 AM) I just don't understand why KW has to show who has the bigger dick whenever he is interviewed about Frank. Why did he have to say, "the fans don't know what I know." Like if we did, we wouldn't cheer him. Last night was about Frank, not KW. Shove your ego away for one day KW, jeez. With the Ozzie-Ryan Dempster-Rich Hill battle to this, we sound like a bunch of 2-year-olds. Why did Frank have to mention his problems with Kenny before coming to town?
  6. QUOTE(Steff @ May 23, 2006 -> 08:37 AM) Or... because he got a gooey chocolate chip cookie.. :rolly Or two...
  7. QUOTE(WCSox @ May 22, 2006 -> 11:20 AM) My point was that Escobar got a bad break. He had every chance to hold onto that lead with two outs and a runner at first and he failed. Cotts did the same thing. If we go past the double-play-that-wasn't and the catch-in-CF-that-wasn't (and I still contend that the latter wasn't an easy play at all), we now have a tie ballgame. Cotts then gives up a two-run homer to lose it. So, no, Neal didn't do his job. If EITHER of those plays is made, we are out of the inning, and none of the rest of that stuff matters. You keep missing the point that Neal got 4 outs in that inning, when he only needed to record two. Not only did he do his job, he did it multiple times because other players weren't doing theirs. Not only did he pitch over one mistake, he pitched over two mistakes, and still didn't get his teammates upholding their part of the bargin. There are nine guys out on that field, and it takes all of them working to win a game. You can't hold the pitcher responsible for what the other eight guys do and don't do.
  8. QUOTE(WCSox @ May 22, 2006 -> 10:59 AM) So, I guess it's Josh Paul's fault that the Angels lost game 2 of the ALCS last year? I agree that the double play was doable, but it wasn't exactly routine. That probably why neither Uribe or Paulie were charged with an error. And the liner to the RCF gap would've been a tough play for Andruw Jones, so blaming Mack is a bit far-fetched. Neal's job is to shut the door with the lead, two outs, and a runner on first. Not only did he not hold onto the lead, but he lost the game after the tying triple. He didn't do his job. Uh, if Paul actually does his job, Escobar never faces Crede. Escobar got the out, Josh Paul screwed the play up. As for the play in the OF, it looked a lot more difficult than it was because Mackowiak took an awful route to the ball. I have seen Anderson make that play in his sleep. Also you might want to read up on how to score a baseball game. You cannot assume a double play, so you don't give an error to either player in that situation. It had nothing to do with if the play was routine or not, which that was about as taylor made of a DP as you'll see. Neal did his job, the defense didn't do theirs.
  9. QUOTE(WCSox @ May 22, 2006 -> 10:29 AM) No he didn't. After the double-play-that-wasn't, they still had the lead with two outs with a runner on first. He then gave up a triple and two-run homer. Did his job, my ass. Neal's job isn't to turn double plays and catch balls in CF. Neal got 4 outs that inning. It isn't his fault the defense let him down. How many times does he have to get outs before "he does his job"?
  10. QUOTE(WCSox @ May 22, 2006 -> 10:24 AM) Maybe, maybe not. Then again, if Cotts had done his job, rather than let Barrett hit a triple into the gap, we wouldn't even be talking about this. By doing his job, you mean something like getting a double play groundball to get out of the inning? Or get 4 outs in an inning if his D holds up at all? Neal did his job.
  11. QUOTE(Walker2Baines @ May 21, 2006 -> 02:57 AM) This is a pretty stupid topic. If you didn't respect Pods after what he did for us in 2005, then you're a f***ing idiot. Pods shouldn't need to beat the s*** out of that pussy, to gain your respect. He should already have your respect. I'm just going to throw a note out there for you to enjoy your suspension for insulting people after you were warned not to
  12. QUOTE(Texsox @ May 18, 2006 -> 04:12 PM) yes he did. What the country then did was fail to develop a better system for the next couple decades. And the irony is that all repubs want to run around and say they are furthering the Reagan revolution... only in this case that isn't a good thing.
  13. QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ May 21, 2006 -> 11:05 PM) A Job Americans Won't Do, Even at $34 an Hour An interesting read from the L. A. Times. Or maybe it costs so much to live there that $34 an hour isn't too much after all? http://www.nextag.com/home-mortgage/2/CA/Riverside.html Look at the median home prices...
  14. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 21, 2006 -> 10:43 PM) Mack actually got a really good jump on that ball, I don't think Brian would have got to it either. As far as leaving Neal in too long, I disagree. I usually don't agree with what Ozzie does with the pen but Neal is our best reliever and can get lefties and righties out, the 8th should be his imo, lefty or righty. He just completely imploded after the error, that's all on him. Ozzie wasn't going to let JC get the L, that's how Ozzie manages. QUOTE(SoxAce @ May 21, 2006 -> 10:45 PM) Agreed 100%. BA is better defensively, but seeing how that ball was slicing in that replay, no way BA would had gotten it, he would have just made it a closer play. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 21, 2006 -> 10:46 PM) Take another look at that play. Mack underestimated the length of the drive and had to adjust his route to the ball, which prevented him from getting there. Anderson puts it in his hip pocket. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 21, 2006 -> 10:58 PM) Thinking back on it, I think a good way to put it is: that mack got a good jump put took a bad angle. BA might have got there but who knows. I am going to go with Brian Anderson making the catch on this one. Mack ran a route that looked like a question mark to get to that ball. He started straight across, came in, and then dashed back. Anderson cuts off the crap of coming in, and I am convinced he makes the catch. First of all Mack was a couple feet from catching the ball after his horrible route, and that isn't factoring in the much greater speed that Anderson possesses vs Mackowiak. I'll even go as far as to say Brian Anderson makes that catch while slowing down.
  15. QUOTE(JimH @ May 21, 2006 -> 06:58 PM) 9 of his 12 pitches were strikes today, for what that's worth. He's almost 40 so I doubt he'll ever have the high 90's velocity again but the key is, can he get major league hitters out. Like, say, Michael Barrett in an 8th inning situation. Just one observation, and I don't know if anyone else thinks this or not... But if Brian Anderson is in CF, he makes that catch slowing down, and we get out of the inning... Mack took a Carl Everett route to the ball. He is awful in CF.
  16. I swear it is like dealing with the Cubs fans when it comes to Frank... I forgot he can do no wrong... Carry on.
  17. Any word on where he could be drafted?
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ May 21, 2006 -> 10:23 AM) Honestly, I don't think he was rattled. He pitched like a sackless s*** before the play, and pitched like it after. Hill had big time mechanical problems on his curveball. Even I could see he wasn't finishing his pitches and his curveball was always WAY high and uncontrolable. The Sox hitters were just sitting on his fastball.
  19. Good for Rich. I know he doesn't believe a word of that if he saw the replays, but at least he isn't too big of a selfish pussy to stand up for a teammate. I know Dusty Baker should be walking the unemployment line, but at the sametime, his mentality fits the corporate robberbarons that he works for. Its a match made in Harry's Heaven.
  20. Wonderful. There are now officially zero reasons to pay any attention to the Hawks.
  21. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 20, 2006 -> 06:23 PM) I don't like Dusty, but I really don't know what else he's supposed to say. Everyone who saw the play knows Barrett was out of line. Did anyone accuse Ozzie of throwing his team under a bus when he complimented Hunter for going out of his way to nail Burke? Comlimenting the opponent and burying your teammate are two different things.
  22. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 20, 2006 -> 03:56 PM) Cubs messageboard Some defending Barrett and calling out Dusty for not backing up his player. Pretty rich stuff I agree with the end of that statement completely, and its just another example of Dusty being a horrible manager. It tells the player that Dusty Baker doesn't give a s*** about them, only himself looking good. Even if he doesn't believe it, a good manager backs up his players in a situation like that. Instead Dusty just threw his best hitter under the bus.
