Then why do the players and coaches put in time in the community? I know some people wouldn't piss on JR if he was on fire, but most of these guys really do care, and make a big effort to give back.

IIRC a player has to accept or decline arbit. If the player accepts then they only can negotiate with their team. If they decline, then the team gets their pick from the signing team, no matter now long it takes them to sign the player.

As long as they offer arbit, they get a pick. We pick 15th in the draft, so we can't lose our first round pick in the draft.
