  1. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think minor league rosters are reduced in a few days. Maybe Shaffer will be cut. Rex, who do you think will be let go?
  2. I don't think Thomas is tradable, literally, because of the 10/5 rule.
  3. No, but I was in shock as I listened to it on the radio. Never did see it. Nellie really felt terrible. Pierce took it like a man. I would love to ask Billy about it if I knew how to email him. They were two of my all time favorite Sox.
  4. Sometime way back in the 50's Nellie Fox dropped a routine popup in the ninth inning as the tying and winning runs scored. His best buddy, Billy Pierce, was the pitcher.
  5. Where did this Kotsay idea come from? Are the Padres trying to trade him, or is this just wishful thinking?
  6. Didn't he sign with the Yanks? I don't think he will be saving too many games there. Good idea, though.
  7. Somebody is going to have to play shortstop on the team next year. Thats right, I'm already thinking of next year.
  8. Regarding the original question of Graffy vs Jose, maybe Kenny decided who plays.
  9. What I meant was may Kenny can swing a deal to get rid of some of our salaries.
  10. Pete Gammons just announced tonight that Arizona would love to move Womack, because they have some young stud SS in the minors ready to bring up. Since he is hitting under .200 and has a salary of $6 Million, maybe Kenny can swing a deal.
  11. John Smoltz just got his 13th save tonight. Unless he breaks a leg, I think he is a shoe-in to break Thigpen's save record.
  12. How did Ward's prize pupil, Frank Thomas look tonight. I didn't see the game. Any more jackknifes?
  13. Guys who are not natural centerfielders will play very deep. If we are going to play Harris, it should be at his natural position. It's the only way the team will get better (on defense).
  14. So who said "NO" to Miles, JM or KW?
  15. Frequent Flyer miles are part of the severance settlement.
  16. He's from Denver. Must be a great guy.
  17. Does anyone know why the Pirates were going to waive Marte?
  18. Malone would have won one ring against the Bulls if that game six had been properly officiated. I think the guilty official was Bevetta, but not positive. He blew two shot clock calls, one each way, and both were against the Jazz and both were clearly wrong, resulting in either 5 or 6 points, plus that flagrant push off by Jordan against Byron Russell that won the game. I'm sure a lot of members here are Bulls' fans and I might get some disagreement. I hope Malone hangs around and breaks the all-time scoring record. There is a possibility he could do it in one season, but will probably fall just a little short next year. We'll see.
  19. On a lighter note, the Brewers nipped the Cubs 5-3.
  20. The only thing missing is the obligatory sex. Then it would be a great movie. HSC, you should get the movie rights. When do you think this will hit the papers. I'm sure those guys read SoxNet.
  21. How much is Ray getting? One post said $ 8 Million. Wow, I had no idea. I thought he took a pay cut from the $5 Million we paid him last year.. $8 M is way too much. I would prefer DJ, too, at those numbers. When I started this thread, I was kind of just making a comment on his high batting average. We all know it's not going to stay up there at .330. It's just that the Sox are so desperate for some offense, the BA just jumped out at me.
  22. I'm sure you are right about Wright. Sorry for the speculation.
  23. I just read that KW was in Charlotte over the week end. Anybody know what's up here? Two possible scenarios: 1. He interviewed Nick Leyva for the Sox job. 2. He told Leyva that we was appointing Wally for the Sox job. And speaking of Charlotte, I noticed that Joe B did not play Sunday.
  24. Ray is now hitting .330. Ouch. He should have been a Sox for life.
