  1. is justin duchscerer (just takin a guess there) hurt??
  2. ha whoops i probably misunderstood it as a 2/6 deal(my mind is usually altered when im on soxtalk so maybe it was even 3/6) , even at 3 mill you can get a good end of the rotation guy, good enough for 4th starter until peavy comes back and a solid 5th starter when he does. Didnt brandon webb just get 3.5?? If you can free up some cash in the yankees trade you could spend even more. Why isnt there more talk about Justin Duchscherer, is he still hurt or somethin?? I know hes injury prone and hes got depression issues, but how can you be depressed playing for ozzie and in a city that actualy cares about baseball lol. If hes not hurt hed be a great pickup. If he is hurt, which hes gotta be there are other guys that can be a solid 4-5 starter. The before mentioned freddy garcia of course, id love Jaime Moyer him and mark can learn a few things from each other, Brad Penny, Ben Sheets, and Chris Young all would do just fine as 4-5 and i think could be had for a good price, all also have the potential to be 2-3 starters. I dont know anything about reegie corona, eduardo nunez, ramiro pena, or whatever they might have in the minors but it looks like they could use mark teahen as a utility guy so they might take the salary dump. Id much rather trade Ejax or Floyd but from the way some of the yankee fans over on nyyfans.com they really covet danks and we could get an absolute haul for him. They were saying Romine, Joba, Nova, and Bestances (i just took a shot at his name). After that trade and a signing of one of the guys above youd have a starting staff of Buehrle-Ejax-Floyd-Nova-and whomever they sign. Perhaps we could even swap out Romine and that stud minor league pitcher for Gardner. giving us Gardner-beckham-PK-Dunn-Rios-AJ-Lexi-Morel-Pierre. Getting Nova keeps Sale in the pen where we need him this year, and it also gives us a options for the 5th starter spot when peavy comes back, if novas doing better than the vet we sign then we just release/trade him, if the vets doing better, you can send nova to the minors or the pen and give him the vets or buehrles spot next year. Getting Joba and letting him close lets us have 2 rock solid leftys we could use in the 7th-8th in sale and thornton and then the righties in that pin would be Santos, Crain, Infante/Pena/Nova potentially when peavy comes back. If you dont get gardner and you get the 2 prospects you then get another guy to go along with flowers who could potentially be ajs backup, i dont know much about romine but it sounds like hes got the potential to be a stud, and then you get bestances (once again guessing on the spelling) whos got nasty stuff and could step into the rotation in a year or 2. I will s*** my pants if they can pull off this trade, either version, esp if they sign one of the vets i mentioned, even if the dont, a Burhrle-ejax-floyd-nova-sale rotation would do just fine. Danks/Teahen for Joba/Nova/Romine/Bestances Sign a FA 4 or 5 starter Re Sign Andruw Jones call it an offseason 1 Pierre 2 Beckham 3 PK 4 Dunn 5 Rios 6 CQ 7 AJ 8 Lexi 9 Morel When peavys healthy 1. Buehrle 2. Peavy 3. EJax 4. Floyd 5. Vet Mop up Nova LHMR Sale RHMR Santos LHSU Thornton RHSU Crain Closer Joba (the righties have the potential to be jumbled around) then ya do work
  3. QUOTE (joeynach @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 03:09 PM) Gross they were about to throw 6 mill at kerry wood, they can and should spend it on a starter in FA, like freddy garcia then you got Buehrle Jackson Floyd Garcia Sale
  4. Danks for Nova, Romine, Joba, and Betances was a trade someone mentioned over at nyyfans.com, and i was wondering what you guys thought of the trade. It looks pretty solid to me, esp. if they kick in more for joba or even better Floyd gets all that. Nova I think is gonna be a stud in this league, solid numbers in AAA (12-3 2.86 era) and then he only really got roughed up twice in in 7 starts in the bigs. Hed fit into the rotation nicely. Romine is a really good catching prospect and with everyone down on tyler flowers and aj getting up there in age, i think 2 years from now romine will be able to step up and be our starter if tyler doesnt step up first. Joba could very well be our closer this year. Betances put up an 8-1 record with a 1.77 era in AA last year. Would Floyd or Jackson get that??? Are they not giving us enough??? Would Danks get us montero??? Does The trade make sense seeing as were going all in and trading a starter for a lesser starter, 2 prospects, and a RH reliever??....If the sox are convinced joba can and will be the closer that makes it a lil more interesting. When Healthy Peavy Buehrle Jackson Danks Nova Pena RH SantosRH CrainRH Sale LH ThorntonLH JobaRH you save money to where you can sign a Brian Fuentes I then make a huge trade involving CQ, Santos, Dayan for an OF bat..i think Infant can give you the same kind of stuff sergio did, dayan has no spot on the team, and CQ is a horrible Rfer...i think that package could get us maybe a bj upton or somethin big like that and call it an offseason
  5. who are some sox related guys on twitter, finally getting one of these and i hear a lot of "x" said on twitter on here. Players, beat reporters, all that jazz. right now im following lillibridge, inside the sox, ozzie, and who i belive to be joe cowley(hasnt updated since sept 1 so i dont think its the right guy)
  6. as far as dayan goes if pk is resigned, id hold onto him and put him in the OF right off the bat in spring training, if he cant hang out there then trade him, if he can, trade Q, simple.
  7. QUOTE (scenario @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 12:56 PM) Anthony Carter has quietly put together a nice AFL run. Not many innings due to short season, but as the team's closer he has 15K's and 0 BB's in 9 innings. where is he at in the farm system?? closing and succeeding for an AFL team sounds like he must be a pretty good prospect. Does he figure to be in the bullpen anytime soon?? After watching Santos and later in the year Infante ive grown very fond of watching white sox relievers.
  8. idk if hes been mentioned yet but how bout Jorge Cantu? idk if hes a free agent or not if he is forget this statement.....Danks for Cantu, Max Ramirez(or treanor or teagarden), a bullpen arm(derrek holland maybe) + another prospect or 2 . That deal fills 3 holes Then push hard for Dunn. Pierre Beckham Rios Dunn Cantu Q Lexi Ramirez Morel make another trade for a lefty bat to balance out the lineup and your set
  9. If he leaves how about joe mcewing takin the spot
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 22, 2010 -> 11:51 AM) If Edwin Jackson is better than Danks, and makes more money and is signed for a shorter period of time, why wouldn't you want to trade him? Considering each pitcher on the Sox staff, you can't trade Sale, the last pitcher I would trade is Danks, unless its a can't say no deal, of which, everyone is available. I haven't seen one of those deals proposed for Danks, and if you don't get a pitcher you can plug into the rotation who should be pretty effective for him as part of the package, it isn't going to work either. Peavy might come back 100%. Edwin Jackson might pitch as well as he pitched with the Sox for the entire 2011 season, Sale might be able to give you 175 innings, Floyd might put more than 1/3 of a good season together. Garcia might give you a year like 2010 where he's a pretty good #5. Buerhle is about as consistent as they come and he'll probably be what he usually is, but maybe he turns into Jaime Moyer and wins 20. I say the chances of all that happening are about the same as SS2K5 starting a fire KW thread. Everyone is talking budget when discussing Danks and making Garcia almost a lock to return. What do you think Freddy is going to command in the open market? Its going to be more than he made in 2010. Do you really want to give him that money? I'm not saying is better persay but his numbers were better last year so i wouldnt say theres a huge drop off from last years staff if any at all. You dont trade Ejax because he makes too much money, you wont get as good a return/wont get a middle of the order talent. Danks is still cheap for 2 years so a team would be more willing to give up talent for him. Freddy is gonna make less than half what danks is gonna make, i think freddy wants to stay in chicago and stay with ozzie so hes gonna take a discount to stay here, at least in my opinion i could be wrong. but this too goes back to free agency, if freddy comes back or some other serviceable 5th starter is signed and you dont sign 2 middle of the lineup bats then you trade Danks to get that middle of the order bat..... If you get your 2 middle of the lineup bats in FA then sure lets keep Danks. right now before FA we have a 3-4-5 of what Rios-Q-Viciedo??? lets say we get PK, Dunn, or Werth, the best bats out there then you have Rios-PK-Q, howd that lineup workout with the staff we have??? I dont know about the budget but im not quite sure you cant get an "A" level and a B level prospect so then youre stuck with two B level guys, like you said before on another thread Kubel and Lee. Now thats not too bad but does it make the team better?? not to sure about that...... Kennys plan should be to get a 4 or 5 hitter in FA, probably a 4 as you go hard after PK, Dunn, or Werth, then trade Danks for whichever you didnt get in FA, you should be able to get a middle of the order bat for DAnks, and hes the only one that will give you that. In conclusion, how bout we wait till FA is over then bring this back up....if we get our 2 bats, and i mean middle of hte order bats, 4-5 hitters) then danks stays. If not Danks goes .
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 22, 2010 -> 08:13 AM) There is not one person on this board who would really think the Sox rotation subtracting Danks is anywhere near as strong as it is with him. Look at the 6 you have penciled in. Peavy, huge question mark. Garcia isn't even signed and even if he does, huge question mark, Sale-------huge question mark in a rotation. Jackson looks pretty solid but his history suggests he's no sure thing. Buerhle will do what Buerhle does. Floyd hasn't been solid for more than 2 months in each of the past 2 seasons and ended the season hurt with a sore shoulder. You are going to need Jackson and Danks both to be big. If you are going to go into a re building mode, fine, trade Danks, but if you truly are trying to win a championship, you're only fooling yourself dealing him, at least for what has been discussed on this board. If a team is willing to go over the top, give you some offense and a real good pitcher, then its plausable. There is no way you do what the original poster suggested and Danks as part of a package for Colby Rasmus? Ridiculous. Edwin Jackson had a better 09 campaign than JD, i know hes been inconsistent and who knows what hes gonna bring to the table next year but the last 2 years when in the AL hes had better numbers than Danks. 09 numbers Danks vs Jackson W/L 13-11 vs 13-9 ERA 3.77 vs 3.62 WHIP 1.28 vs 1.26 Ks 149 vs 161 BB 73 vs 70 Pretty damn even with Jackson winning every category. in 44 starts in the AL the last year and a half Jackson is 17-11. Im not saying the staff IS better or the same with jackson over danks but if Jax pitches like he did the last 2 years in the AL then the staff wont skip a beat when compared to last years and you have a better offence. I know youre saying that we need both Danks and Jackson to do big things but we need some O on this team and were gonna have to sacrifice from our strong suit to get it Lemme ask the 1st question from my previous post again. If we dont sign 2 middle of the order bats in FA do you still not wanna trade DAnks? If the answer is still no arent we gonna have the same problems we had this past year?
  12. Hey Dick what happens when you cant sign 2 big bats in FA then would you agree thank Danks should be traded for a big bat??? This teams needs 2 middle of the order bats (4 and 5 hitters) and with out em your gonna have a offence no better than last year and you saw what the sox did with that offence and that pitching staff. Theyre trying to get better not stay the same. Garcia is Ozzies boy (arent they related?) and i expect him to come back hes a good 5th starter, if someone gets hurt you still have Sale waiting in the wings. lemme put it this way.... assuming garcia come back you have Danks being replaced by Jackson and Hudson being replaced by Sale. Peavy Buehrle Floyd Danks Garcia Hudson (as an injury replacement) With last years (or this year whatever you wanna call it) or Peavy Buehrle Floyd Jackson Garcia Sale With a better offence than last year. Which sounds better??? Jackson is not that big of a drop off from Danks, if at all.
  13. Very nice!..... ihope hes put higher in the order next year (im pretty high right now so i mist share information because i love it so much) how awesome would it be to just go all out on carl crawford and go out there with 1. Pierre CF 2. Beckham 2b 3. Crawford LF 4. Rios RF 5. Ramirez SS 6. Damon DH 7. Dayan 1B 8. AJ C 9. Morel 3B i think that team would be entertaining as hell
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 18, 2010 -> 08:59 AM) Oh come on back to you. Since when have the Sox signed a top line offensive free agent from another team? I'll answer it, Albert Belle. How did that work out? I'll answer that, not so good because the pitching staff wasn't so hot, they signed Jaime Navarro. Pitching wins in real baseball. Fantasy, go for the offense. Besides, do you really thing the Sox are going to win a bidding war for the top guys? There are plenty of second tier guys who may be able to help you. Derrick Lee wasn't very good in 2010 and isn't what he used to be, but everyone said the same thing about Konerko, and Lee had a thumb injury in 2010. He will be available for a decent price both in dollars and years and Ozzie loves him from the Marlin days. He's a possibilty. Jason Kubel might not be brought back to Minnesota because their payroll is jumping. Add those 2, with improvement from Beckham, and bring AJ back at a slightly reduced rate. Obviously its just speculation with Kubel, but there have been several reports he could be bought out, although I find it hard to believe they wouldn't exercise the $5.5 million on him. JD, AJP, Thome coming off injury all were 2nd or 3rd tier guys. Trading away your best pitcher with 2 years left at still a bargain rate considering most of this board thought Javy Vazquez as a 5th starter and an ERA hovering over 4.50 was fairly compensated at $11 million, is beyond stupid. ya know, id be on board with Lee and Kubel but id much rather get one top free agent (Konerko, Dunn, Werth, LaRoach,or Beltre) and trade danks for another top level bat. I like Sale in the rotation.
  15. Fielder? havent heard his name mentioned on here, is it because the length of his contract??? Yonder Alonso?? unless they think he can hang out in LF he doesnt have a spot on that team
  16. Dick its pretty simple, this team has pitching depth and need another big time bat. You saw how the season went with the pitching staff we have and the lack of hitting. Unless the Sox have the money to sign 2 impact bats then there is no way a starter shouldnt be traded and Danks makes the most sense, he'll give you the best return and may not resign.
  17. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Oct 17, 2010 -> 06:49 AM) Certainly was a bit of a mis-match last night. Think you only scored 23 in the 1st half all together. With the way Bass is playing, is gives us the option of starting him at PF, or Q Rich at SF depending on matchups. After looking at the box score, it was a mismatch because none of our starters played more than 21 min, while Scalabrine, Thomas, and Watson all played 30+.
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 16, 2010 -> 04:54 PM) Neither Swisher trade was on KW? Did he not make both trades? They gave up too much to get him and got back crap when they traded him to the Yankees. And why are you focusing on only DLS, who by the way had a staggering K/9 of 13.9, while ignoring the other premium arm we gave up in Gio Ganzalez? Add in Sweeney, and that was simply an overpay for a 3-tier type OF. Jeff Marquez is absolute horses*** and has no future whatsoever with this organization. Nunez is minor league fodder. Wilson Betemit? No comment. Let's face it, Ozzie didn't like Nick so they traded him at a time where his value was at it's absolute lowest. I said it wasnt on KW because Swisher sucked but there was nothing that showed KW that he should suck, since he sucked you didnt get a good return when you traded him, if he woulda played like KW and everyone else ecpected we woulda got a good return...i just focus on DLS to make a point about trading prospects. The top one in that trade is expected to just be a bullpen guy now. He had a career low .787 OPS at the time of the trade and he was almost 40. Who knew Masset was going to be a good reliever? Apparently KW did. Remember the famous "tick" below Bobby Jenks' stuff comment? And all he's done is go on to flourish with the Reds. Don Cooper? Hello? Who cares about Richar. He was a throw-in. I dont remember that tick below jenks saying all i remember was him having a high era and us needing some pop, Well both trades turned out to be bad. But I was referring to the second one. With Flowers completely falling off the prospect map, and it was obvious to those in the know that he was never going to cut it as a catcher, all we have to show for it is Brent f***ing Lillibridge? Fail. And you talk about how you never know with prospects yet you think Gilmore and Rodriguez will be in the majors? deal looked good when it happened Paging Don Cooper? What's happened here? He's got a 95 MPH fastball and Buehrle K rates. Not to mention excessive walks. To be fair, I gave KW the benefit of the doubt here. I thought this could be another Thornton type of move. A year and a half later, the verdict is in: Pena f***ing sucks. And it sure would be nice to have a 24-year old, athletic 1B/LF with plus power who would obviously be dirt cheap for the next 6 years. Especially with PK's future in question. But hey, what do I know? I was agreeing with you here, so need to put the what do i know And he's still hurt. And it looks like he's going to be a major injury risk going forward. Wonderful. is he not supposed to start when the season begins??? When did Teahen ever look like he can be a good hitter? 2006? And better than Josh Fields? Well that's setting the bar real high. lol. Teahen is horrible and KW should be ashamed of himself. Kenny should be ashamed of himself on the extension. Sox wanted an upgrade over Fields and they got it. Please, KW deserves just as much blame. Though I definitely think Ozzie is a moron. Agreed but it was what ozzie wanted and thats what kenny gave him, KW should have known better though Unless Jackson thoroughly outperforms Hudson for the next 6 years this trade is a fail. we shall see, EJax looked pretty damn good with us. Slump? Bad deals? What's the difference. For years the rebuttal to KW trading away young talent like it's got an expiration date was how many of these guys have come back to haunt us? Well guess what, we're being f***ing haunted now. This organization is in a world of trouble at the moment. i guess youre right in the sense that those where all good at the time but ended up sucking so if you wanna call that a slump i agree but at the time they were made i wouldnt call any of em minus the pena trade a bad deal....i guess i just misinterpreted a slump .....also in no ways is this ogr in a world of trouble, the offseason hasnt even begun
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 16, 2010 -> 04:36 PM) Our system was an abject disaster at the time, that wasn't saying much. DLS was still just a guy who'd had 1 good year in A-ball. I agree but my argument was about trading prospects for "proven talent" and Swish looked like proven talent.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 16, 2010 -> 04:22 PM) Can you demonstrate that? He was the #1 prospect in all of baseball? in the sox system, not all of baseball...couldnt find the actual ratings but this backs up my statement http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3179423
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 16, 2010 -> 04:15 PM) Brent Lillibridge? Really? .248 OBP and 36 ks in 98 AB make it seem like he's more of a Culligan man of the future than the utility man of the future. ya youre right on that one, i was just trying to boost my arguement, he did have a good stretch at one point last year where it looked like he might actually have some worth...but Flowers, Gilmore, and Rodriguez all look like they could contribute to the big club at some point and technically so has Lilli.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 16, 2010 -> 03:46 PM) We were annoyed at giving up DLS, but there's no way that you could call a guy in single-A ball the best prospect we gave up at the time. Not when Gio was in that deal. If for no other reason than the fact that he was at a much higher level. De Los Santos was rated numero uno by baseball prospectus at the time of the trade.
  23. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 16, 2010 -> 02:44 PM) Span was horrible in '10 for whatever reason. But his skill-set easily trumps Pierre's. He was still the lead off hitter for a the division winning twins. Juan also got on base more than Elvis Andrus. I gotta say it in every post so you guys dont bring out the walk cards on my argument....he needs to take more walks though but by no means does he need to be benched like what was said before.
  24. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 16, 2010 -> 02:40 PM) What slump? Both Swisher trades, Masset for super washed up Griffey Jr., the Javy trade, the Pena trade, the Peavy deal (if only because he was damaged goods when we traded for him), the Teahen trade and despicable extension, failure to upgrade the DH before or during the season, and the, you know it's coming, Hudson/Jackson trade. KW and company have been awful the last three years. But hey, at least we're still in win-now mode. Neither Swisher trades were on KW IMO the ball club desperately needed a guy who can get on base and swish was ranked 6th in the AL in OBP maybe he gave up a bit too much but they were all unproven players we gave up, and the best prospect we gave up at the time (dLS) isnt even expected to be more than a bullpen guy so you that right there shows you just dont know what you got in prospects and swish was coming off 2 straight really good years where he hit 57 HR drove in 173 RBI plus he had an obp over .370 both years. who knew hed come to a smaller ballpark and suck and because he sucked we couldnt get a good return. They still got jeff marquez who a top 10 prospect in the yankees farm system could he have got more?? maybe but we dont know that im sure kenny tried to get more. Junior had 18 HR and drove in 71 in 08, you traded a reliever who had a 4+ era and a danny richar, who knew masset was gonna be as good as he is now and where is danny richar now??? Not sure which Javy trade youre talking about but neither do i see as bad deals, yes tyler flowers slumped this year but Lilli looks to be the utility man of the future, maybe more, Gilmore and rodriguez also look good in the minors. 3 years from now i wouldnt be surprised if all 4 are in the majors. ill give you the pena trade. The peavy deal was obviously made for the future since peavy was hurt. Teahen lookd/looked like he could be a good hitter or at the very least better than josh fields the DH is supposedly what ozzie wanted so i put that on him The Jackson/Hudson trade is still up in the air and is on Don Cooper, he wanted jackson over hudson. I wouldnt really say its a slump as far as them being bad deals
  25. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 16, 2010 -> 02:29 PM) I'm not confident. But with the slump KW is in, I'm not sure he wouldn't botch a potential Danks trade in which we got back below market value. And he's under control through 2012. So it's not like he can just bolt after '11. uh what slump???
