June 6th Game Thread: White Sox @Tampa Bay Rays

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 06:53 PM) Renteria is so scared to use challenges. He was clearly out I've noticed that as well he is incredibly timid when it comes to challenges. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 11:46 PM) You're forgetting Dunning this system needs more left handed pitching. Outside of Guerrero; Purke, Clark and Flores are the only of note to me.

hell of a start by Giolito, I stand firmly on the take a step back from the ledge camp. Tall pitchers let alone ones that are being completely rebuilt often take time and Floyd and Halladay are recent examples of this. Giolito's last 5 starts 28IP 2.57 ERA 1.14 WHIP 8.36 K/9 Guerrero has been quietly turning it around once he got out of April. A future staff of Giolito Rodon Kopech Guerrero Hansen with Burdi, Fulmer & Lopez shutting it down out of the pen is something to dream on.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 09:32 AM) Something like this with the first few picks would be ideal for me: #11: Jeren Kendall OF Vanderbilt #49: Chris Seise SS HS (FL) #87: Daniel Tillo LHP Iowa CC #117 Lincoln Henzman RHP Louisville (if they really want this guy, hopefully they'd wait until round 4 rather than 3). I would be open to that, which ever bat they take at 11, Ideally Haseley, Beck Kendall, Adell in that order. If Seth Romero is available at 39 I hope they take him issues and all.

QUOTE (budgie23 @ Jun 2, 2017 -> 09:29 PM) If Q can pitch well the next 2 months, I think he will get traded to the Brewers - deal built around Brinson. I could see that Brinson and Hader make a lot of sense, I could see the rockies wanting to push a fair amount of low level talent in as well.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 2, 2017 -> 12:55 PM) I don't think his trade value has changed all that much. Contending teams will still have to pay a premium for the 3 1/2 seasons of relatively cheap control over Quintana compared with the high cost of quality free agent starting pitching. I would not expect a Chris Sale level return, but I also would not accept significantly less. A deal along the lines of the return from the Eaton deal (not necessarily pitching) seems realistic. Potential buyers right now: Yankees, Red Sox, Orioles, Indians, Astros, Nationals, Brewers, Cardinals, Cubs, Rockies, Diamondbacks, Dodgers The only potential buyers that have nothing to offer for Q are the O's & D-backs those systems are beyond thin.

Some things i find interesting as of today in the division. Indians 28-24 - RDif +21 - Pythag 28-23 - BaseRuns - 33-21 Twins 26-23 - RDif -23 - Pythag 22-27 - BaseRuns - 24-25 Tigers 25-28 - RDif -21 - Pythag 24-29 - BaseRuns - 23-30 White Sox 24-28 - RDif +19 - Pythag 28-24 - BaseRuns - 26-26 Royals 22-30 - RDif -53 - Pythag 20-32 - BaseRuns - 21-31 we should have the second best record by pythag and baseruns in the division, hopefully we continue to lose and sell off quickly, need to get back in the running for a top 3 pick.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 09:00 AM) It was good that Frazier hit a bomb off of Sale, and you know Sale will vouch for him as well. It is a virtual certainty in my mind that he ends up with Boston. I agree, its such an obvious fit for low opportunity cost with some real upside. Boston is 18th in team slugging % at .413 & 29th in HR. Blake Swihart - .200/.243/.338 | BB - 4.3% K - 25.7% a lot of shine has come off his status looks to be a classic change of scenery guy. In our org he would have time to figure it out at the major league level before Collins is ready, hes 25 this year. Trey Ball 48.1 IP, 7.63 K/9, 3.54 BB/9, 5.77 ERA a former first rounder who hasn't put it together again another change of scenery type and he is out of boston's top 20 prospects.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 1, 2017 -> 12:25 AM) Luckily his glove still plays but he is a returning a c+ prospect at best. Would not be a bad idea to DFA him if he is this bad in three weeks and there is no trade interest, see if someone just will pickup the 4 million or so. I honestly feel we're going to get a similar return the red sox got from us when they moved Kevin Youkilis, and I could see us dealing him to the red sox. Frazier for Blake Swihart and Darwinzon Hernandez or Trey Ball it mirrors Brent Lillibridge and Zach Stewart for Youkilis.

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ May 30, 2017 -> 08:58 PM) What are the chances he is available? 15%, D-backs need to go with an arm and someone has to slip to the angels that is too much upside to pass up for the sox to land him IMO.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 30, 2017 -> 06:45 PM) Great post. Interesting data on Leury's inside zone contact rate. Thanks QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 30, 2017 -> 06:59 PM) I am not superfamiliar with the numbers, but I have to imagine 91% is not sustainable, no? For their careers: Angel Pagan - 93.4% Denard Span - 95.4% Alejandro De Aza - 89.7% Alex Rios - 91.3% Carl Everett - 83%. Luis Castillo - 95.7 % A high zone contact is sustainable if there have been a pronounced change in an approach. If Leury has come to grips that he isn't going to crush baseball's and has made a conscious effort to make more contact its possible its real.

I voted for Leury even though I've been in Sanchez's corner long before he ever got a cup of coffee. As others and myself have always said Sanchez has always been incredibly young for his level he could've spent 3 full seasons at AAA instead of riding the bus and pine and still be on pace to be an above average regular. He was always lauded for his well above average defense and and his hit tool. Power is always last to develop and its the most pronouced in switch hitters so it doesn't surprise me at 24 and having been given enough time to adjust at the major league level that Yolmer can develop into a solid regular. I would put his celing at an Erick Aybar level of player and if that comes to pass thats wonderful for the sox and opens up CF or 3B for Moncada. Yoan is a talented defender but he is still below Yolmer if you can put his legs in CF you still and an elite up the middle player and fill an organizational need, and it goes with many scouts and pundits have been saying for a while, move him off the keystone and let him and his natural talent take over in center. Leury has made some pronounced adjustments and its getting to the point where we're likely seeing the signal through the noise. His contact profile and his BB/K% have changed drastically. Hes up 6% (71.6%) in outside the zone contact, but here is the big one 91.1% zone contact rate, up nearly 14%. Hes always been a talented defender and base runner. if he has a higher contact profile in the zone it makes sense that he has cut down his strike out rate just by proxy. If everything has clicked we could be looking at an Angel Pagan type of player. I don't buy the .186 ISO as his soft/med/hard contact has remained consistent but i could see him settling in at 125-135 for reasons similar to Yolmer; finally comfortable at the major league level and power developing last in Switch hitters combined with this being the beginning of his peak years. Davidson to me is the least likely to be a major league regular of the three because he is on the small side of the platoon and his contact issues. I'm looking forward to Frazier being moved and getting to see if he is just a bench piece or if we have a Mark Reynolds clone on our hands, either way he has earned the chance to see if he can make the adjustments and can manage the power with a +30% k-rate. Ideally Frazier gets moved, Delmonico is brought up to play 1B and Abreu seeing how he is the welcoming comittee and good will amabasador isn't going anywhere gets moved to DH and back up 1B duties.

Still hoping Haseley falls to us at 11, I have a hard time seeing the d-backs pass up on Bukauskus. I'm ok with drafting Kendall at 11 warts and all.

jesus price threw one strike in that AB, why is TA at the top of the order? keep him in the lower third, when the sox are rebuilt that will likely be his place anyways. -
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 28, 2017 -> 02:38 PM) uh, Matt Davidson now has a .290 ISO. That's insane. Yolmer! Now sitting at a cool 309 AVG. Who the f*** say any of this coming? Even it's some lighting in a bottle. Matt Davidson performing and looking every bit of for Diamond back colleague Mark Reynolds. Also that whole sequence with Yolmer was beautiful, loving the way he has been playing, it feels like hes much older than he is but he made it to AAA as a 20 year old and he still isn't even 25 yet.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 28, 2017 -> 02:25 PM) Slash! Matt: .267 .317 .534 851 OPS Leury: 273 .323 .462 755 OPS Sanchez: .303 .344 .426 766 OPS Wily: 263 .318 .421 739 OPS even when the Sox rest Avi they still have some competent MLB hitters (currently at least) up and down the lineup outside of Jose. This is a far cry from the "3 easy out" days of the last couple years. I appreciate having big league quality ABs up and down the line up but I can't wait to see what an all Garcia outfield is capable of producing for half a year with tilson's return completely unknown in addition to Delmonico and Davidson getting nice long looks and Yoan eventually making his way up, all though i've been pleasently surprised by Yolmer as well.

QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ May 28, 2017 -> 11:03 AM) What does Holland get back? if he keeps pitching like a 4 or 5 a nice lottery ticket.
