I wonder if Getz has any regrets committing to Pedro for another season. They lay down immediately. How can he be back? You would think with only 30 of these jobs in the world, you would have to earn your keep. Apparently all Pedro has to do is tell the press that Getz and JR are great, and competitive and want to win. If they really wanted to win, Pedro is an easy call.

I would say they have checked out, but that would require them to have checked in at some point.

With Robert out, why would a White Sox fan watch this game?

Seby is a 0.0 fWAR and a -0.5 bWAR. If you are Rick Hahn and Kenny Williams, that is a high bar to get over, but most GMs can do better.
-
Exactly. He is a 10 and 5 guy. I still think that means full no trade protection.

Kind of surprised they just didn’t pull the plug on Yaz. But maybe they see an opportunity. I doubt he gets claimed. The Sox can outright him. I think since he’s been outrighted before he can refuse, but if he does, I think he forfeits his contract, and the $115k left this season probably is a significant number to Seby. I didn’t know he was 30.

The fact is you seem to be fine with the process of having a minority go through an interview where the team interviewing them is just doing it to meet some rule. You aren’t looking at the bigger problem where black people aren’t playing baseball and as a result not getting into roles where they should be considered as a GM. I don’t like the Getz hire, but it doesn’t piss me off that JR didn’t “interview” Frank Thomas for the job, he wanted it, to meet some quanta if he wasn’t going to be hired. The fact is there are not a lot of minority candidates out there that one can think of offhand. Do you have any names? Would you interview for a job there was no chance you would get if the reason it was even scheduled was to meet some rule?

Other than a guaranteed paycheck, I don’t see one reason even the most inept baseball people would think Pedro can manage a championship team. If the goal is to be .500 and try to sneak into the playoffs because of a bad division, sort of like the Bulls these days, then OK. He can probably manage an average team if things go his way, but he really is almost Terry Bevington level. I fully expect he’ll be gone at some point in 2024.

What is your fascination with sham interviews? And why are you singling out JR? Every MLB GM is a white male with 2exceptions? And where did one get her first opportunity in baseball? JR has had minority managers , a black executive for almost 25 years, as well as other minority and women employees holding key positions. Getz doesn’t deserve the job, I will give you that, but are you going to be happy when the Mets line up a black man to interview after the season and then name Stearns their president?

According to Bob, the Big Hurt wanted the GM job. Now he’s angling for Farm Director. Also, KW wants to join the Angels.

Saturday night baseball gamethread...anyone?? Detroit @ Sox

Pedro showed some fake discipline. Benched the rookie because he did run out a pop up. The kid obviously thought he fouled it off. -
Sox AAA affiliate is 35 games under. The AA affiliate is 30 games under. How does the farm director get promoted?
-
Maybe they can have a bulletproof vest night. That should attract a few thousand.
-
And still had White Sox ties.

I hope someone has the guts to ask he why he will be different from the previous guys, and ask how involved LaRussa is.
-
Basically with the buyout, Clevinger is owed the equivalent of a player making around $31 million.
-
I will give them this. It very well could be the same. Maybe even a 99% chance. But at least there is a slight chance it will be different from the previous clown show.
-
I don't feel bad for him. I'm pretty sure if there were 29 other GM openings this winter, he would land none of them

Pedro got hired because he said what KW and RH wanted to hear. Getz gets hired and JR mentions Getz says what he wants to hear. The problem is, this organization is messed up from top to bottom. Fixing it requires things they don't want to hear.
