  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 06:57 PM) So does mine. Sergio has blown five saves hasn't he? He's 29 in 34 opportunities. Bobby was 27 saves with four blown last year. Remember that stretch last year when even as fatter Bobby, he was on a roll? Oh yes, people will tell me Bobby also sucked in games he lost or whatever. Matt Thornton really did a nice job in the role this year as well (sarcasm). I'm not ripping on Sergio, I like him a lot, but the man has blown a few games as most all closers do. Bobby is NOT the devil. Why would your head hurt when I point out those stats?? Some people act like Bobby never was productive in a White Sox uniform. Ever? Now somebody is going to respond and say 27 saves last year were totally worthless or misleading or something. I don't get it. Yes he's fat like Dunn. His production even last year, his worst in a long time, was 50 times better than equally fat Dunn's performance this year. BTW, Juan is up to .286. For non Sabes people, he's putting together a nice average. Yeah, KW really blew it by not bringing Bobby back this year. He's been great for Boston. They had a steal. Theo Epstein is a genius.
  2. Until the Sox are willing to piss off Bud Selig, or slotting is agreed to, they will be average at best in the draft. Boston routinely finishes with a better record and look at their prospects the past 5 or 6 years.
  3. He'll never be a gold glove guy, but the arm helps. Hopefully he can develop into a Magglio-level defender with a plus arm. That would actually be pretty good.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 12, 2011 -> 12:02 PM) That's a way to take the pressure off of Dunn Ozzie... http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...it-anymore.html The only "book" Ozzie looks at for match ups is the payroll book apparently.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 12, 2011 -> 09:08 AM) Again...if I were a GM, and I were put in a situation where I not only coudln't fire my manager but I couldn't even make the choice of manager, I'd resign. I agree. I think JR's "meddling" is way overblown. I don't think hiring Ozzie was forced on KW. I do believe interviewing him was probably forced. If he can't hire or fire people (although I do think the Walker incident shows how immature KW really is) what does he do other than front for JR?
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 12, 2011 -> 08:45 AM) The entire world knows that Kenny wanted Cito. Where have you been? Kenny also had his own guy before Ozzie. He gave Jerry Manuel a contract extension. They both should go.
  7. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 05:11 PM) How difficult would that be? There are probably 75 starters who could put up a season that would be his best for us It shouldn't be too difficult but his 2011 was worse than his 2010 and when he was acquired it would have been easy to say he would have been much better than he's been. I think he'll pitch more than 120 innings. But you never know.
  8. If Detroit goes 6-10, a 17-0 run by the Sox makes it a tie.
  9. Chicago White Sox, If you don't like it, go piss on the statue and watch another team.
  10. As long as another injury doesn't occur, I think 2012 will be his finest season with the White Sox. There were flashes of dominance. Personally, I would like to see him finish out the season. I think pitching now would help him for next year, but they pay people a lot of money to make that determination.
  11. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 12:57 AM) You mean when Adam Dunn and Alex Rios are in the lineup while Viciedo sits on the bench? Rebuilding starts with getting rid of the manager and gm because otherwise we'll never go through it correctly. And you're damn right that I'd actually go to a decent amount of games next season if they attempted to do a rebuild correctly. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but even if the Sox decide to step back and "rebuild", you're still going to have to watch Dunn and Rios everyday, especially if they stay with Ozzie, because his quote yesterday basically dismissed benching or pinch hitting for big salaried guys.
  12. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 07:16 PM) Flowers has been horrid since A.J. came back. Probably some conspiracy between Walker and AJP to sabbotage the guy's career.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 03:28 PM) How about just a countdown for how many more days Dunn and Rios are under contract? That's what I was thinking like with Thome's 500th home run. The could have someone peel away the games left everyday.
  14. JR should hire Marty when Ozzie goes to Miami and the Sun Times has no use for him. Free beer and he can't get anyone to show. He'd fit right in on 35th St.
  15. QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 10:08 PM) Beckham never failed before pitchers started to make their adjustments to him. When he started to fail, he never knew how to get out of a struggle prior, and the majors isn't the place to learn. Look at Tank, they let him learn and take his bumps in the minors.. Now he is showing progress since last year. Beckham wasn't going to fail in the minor leagues. Viciedo will fail in the major leagues, and will have to learn how to deal with it. That argument is for people who feel they must show some expertese but have no idea what the problem is. I'll buy guys need to learn how to deal with failure, but Beckham had plenty of it last season, and came out of it. I don't know why that wouldn't matter, but getting out of a 1-20 against minor leaguers 3 or 4 years ago would.
  16. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 12:53 AM) I remember reading a quote from Schueler after the White Flag trade where he said he just didn't like that team anymore. That's where I am with this group. With the exception of Sale, there isn't a player on the roster that I'd be upset losing. So the guys he got rid of and didn't like anymore just happened to have 2 months left on their contracts? Lucky him.
  17. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 02:41 PM) Maybe someday people will drop the idea that with Thome they win the ALC in 2010. People still want to beat that dead horse. We might as well beat that dead horse of acquiring him via trade has a bad idea too. Maybe, maybe not. I do know it would have strengthened the Sox and weakened the division champion. It also would have probably saved KW from signing Dunn. Ozzie said no, took full responsibility for it, then said it wasn't only him. Who knows the truth. The bottom line is its KW's responsibility to form the roster. If Ozzie talks him into a mistake, that's not on Ozzie.
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 12:17 PM) I wouldn't go that far. But the guy is obviously legit. It really is amazing had stunningly fast that organization has turned around. Call it skill or luck or a combination of both. But in that time frame, they've added their #1 and #2 starters for this year's playoffs, fixed a bullpen that was record-breaking bad in '10 overnight, while at the same time restocking a farm system (Tyler Skaggs, Patrick Corbin, David Holmberg) that now features arguably the deepest collection of legitimate pitching prospects in baseball. Take some f***ing notes, Kenny. It he were a hitter, Greg Walker would be the issue. How come no issue with Cooper? He clearly didn't perform very well for the White Sox last year.
  19. Everyone clamouring for rebuilding and saying they would go to a ton of Sox games if the tickets were cheaper, your time is now. The games are meaningless, the younger players (even though most aren't that young) are playing, and tickets can be had on stubhub for $5. Step up to the plate.
  20. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 12:00 PM) So projecting three players in their prime to continue to perform (Peavy, Rios, Dunn) was poor evaluation? We aren't talking about three guys that are 35 years old or three guys without proven track records (Rios is debatable), we're talking about three solid players. With Peavy, specifically, you're implying that Kenny should have known that Peavy would have a freaking muscle detach in his back (first time in MLB history)? If we pull up threads from before Spring Training, there was far and away a sense that the offseason was the most successful the Sox have had in years. There was a sense that this team would run away with the division. There was a sense amongst baseball analysts in the media that the Sox would dominate the Central. To now say that KW didn't field a solid roster, in hindsight after abysmal performances by 4 key players, is completely unfair. As Tex mentioned, I, too, find it rather easy to excuse KW of any fault for this debacle. You can talk all you want about Soxtalk's consensus, the bottom line is no one on Soxtalk gets paid over $1 million a year to put together a roster. I loved the Peavy trade, but it was a huge financial commitment and he was pretty hurt when acquired and had some issues with injuries previously. If his lat didn't detach, perhaps another injury would have occurred. The Blue Jays were doing cartwheels when Rios was claimed on waivers, and the Sox went from not wanting to pay Jim Thome $1.5 million because they had no room for a DH to paying a guy who previously stated he wanted nothing to do with being a DH, $56 million for 4 years to DH. It would have been impossible to project the size of the fall of Dunn's performance, but projecting less production wouldn't have been that difficult.
  21. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 11:42 PM) Hudson with a CG win. *cue the it doesn't count because it came against the Padres comments* Isn't Zach Stewart now the prize for Hudson? He looked good his last outing.
  22. QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 10:37 PM) The games aren't played on paper, but that is the only way a GM can be scored. No one could have projected the kind of season Dunn is having. Kenny went after the best available guys and built a team that should have won this division. There wasn't too many other choices. Would you determine the best guy drafting people is the guy who selected the highest ranked guys or the guy that selected the guys that eventually performed the best?
  23. If Detroit goes 8-10 their final 18, the Sox only have to go 18-1 for the tie. Keep updating us on those scores Hawk.
  24. Tyler Flowers is now hitting .210 and walking back to the dugout a lot. If you hate AJ, chances are Flowers is going to drive you to a rubber room.
