  1. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 21, 2010 -> 05:45 PM) It's always used as a joke, but the truth is Kenny is a gambler and that means he takes chances and sometimes they don't work. He's made some bad ones of late and those are really hard for me to swallow, but I have to resist the knee-jerk can-his-ass reaction. I see the logic in it, handing the keys over to Hahn or someone else. But I also know that gambler's have streaks, good and bad, and maybe this is just one of those bad ones that I have to ride out. At least I hope so. I will say KW for some reason was never given any responsibility with the Dave Wilder situation. That's one piece of history for which he should have had some accountablity. The prospects were suspects. He was paying way too much. Wilder was his buddy and he promoted him. That whole thing was really swept under the rug pretty well. I wonder if KW's star is still shining bright for JR. I know JR is very loyal but some bad teams, a scandal, and a payroll a lot higher than the results would indicate, may have JR at least questioning KW from time to time.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 21, 2010 -> 02:22 PM) How stupid is Joe Cowley that he can't figure out that this is a part of Kenny Williams job? I don't ever recall a Joe Cowley article on the plight of the Chicago Sun Times and what their steady spiral down the toilet has done to the quality of his newspaper. Why? BECAUSE IT IS HIS JOB TO SELL NEWSPAPERS, NOT TO BE HONEST. But then again I am sure when his mom tells me that "nothing is wrong" he believes her. Kenny Williams, nor anyone else in the organization, believes half of the stuff that they say on this topic. This is what they have to say. Anyone who can't figure that out deserves the Darwin Award that is in their future. I agree. KW coming out and telling the world his team sucks isn't going to happen, and it shouldn't happen. Maybe next Soxfest he can say the team sucked, but certainly not in May. The White Sox still have a lot of games to play, they need to sell some tickets, and even if the odds are stacked against them, there is still a chance they can make something of this year. I just wish KW would do something. I hate the KW speeches about his believing in the team as much as anyone, but I would never expect him to tell the truth. We know the truth. We know KW knows the truth. If the show bothers you, don't watch. It was interesting that Cowley, who recently ripped Rogers for watching games on TV instead of in person, wasn't at the park when KW made his speech. He probably was tweeting away in his mom's basement.
  3. The White Sox have been pretty consistent. They were 4-6 their first 10 games. They were 4-6 the 10 games after that. They were 4-6 the 10 games after that. They were 4-6 the 10 games after that.
  4. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 20, 2010 -> 10:41 PM) Great news everyone! The ground rule double is Hawk's excuse for the loss tonight. Peavy's coming out of this one clean. What was interesting was Stone and Hawk commenting on how little Peavy warmed up today. He gave up runs quickly. Maybe he was getting loose under the stands, but I would doubt it.
  5. I hope we don't hear how scoring 4 in the 8th will be a springboard to winning. Face it White Sox, you aren't good. Do something.
  6. The Sox are a lock to win this game. Fuentes is brutal.
  7. I can't believe they don't run on Pierre. He did get to it quickly but he's not going to make a good throw.
  8. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 20, 2010 -> 10:21 PM) Why is Castro in? They ran for AJ in the 8th.
  9. The Sox don't lose many games when they score at least 4. If the Angels bring in Fuentes, they still have a good chance if they can keep them off the board here.
  10. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 20, 2010 -> 10:17 PM) Worst. Break. Ever. I can think of several other breaks that were worse, but it does suck. I think they should change the warning track to something softer. There are a ton of ground rule 2B at USCF.
  11. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ May 20, 2010 -> 10:00 PM) And speaking of "boring", hold on - Teahen is at the plate! He supposedly is a real great guy, but he truly is one of the most boring players I've ever seen. There''s nothing to get excited about.
  12. Even JR called the Division winning team of 2008 boring. They were boring the second half of 2006, boring in 2007, boring in 2008, boring in 2009 and maybe have even taken it up a notch in 2010. Something has to be done. This "I believe in the talent" BS needs to stop.
  13. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 20, 2010 -> 09:34 PM) The Fall of Beckham. What a sad story. He'll eventually snap out of this and be better for it.
  14. Hawk needs to look at the schedule. I believe the Sox have only 1 more getaway day home game this year. I don't think the Angels are too worried about the long flight to St. Louis.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ May 20, 2010 -> 09:24 PM) If he was playing in a smaller park, he'd have more home runs this season....like in Williamsport. If KW ever has to find someplace to go on Christmas, I'm sure the Teahen family will take him in, considering the $15 million gift he handed them.
  16. The offense has been pitiful. Maybe the Sox just can't project offensive performance. Nick Johnson was a KW target this past offseason, and he was terrible before going down again. Matsui was a consideration and he's been horrid. If the Sox would have signed them and they performed the same way it would be because of Walker. Of course, if you have to score 7 runs to win, you aren't going to win many games. I think people forgot that last year's team was bad offensively but Thome was fairly solid and Dye was tremendous in the first half. The team hasn't been good enough from the start and KW and JR and OG have no one to blame but themselves.
  17. I don't understand this rotating DH. Shouldn't Rios be given a breather by DHing? He's one of the few the Sox have that is a threat at the plate at the current time. He played almost every game when he was in Toronto, I'm sure he's not tired.
  18. QUOTE (hogan873 @ May 20, 2010 -> 06:16 AM) Even Hawk is thoroughly disgusted. He's said a few times recently that the defense has been "at best, bad". If it wasn't for Nix's TWO errors on one play, Konerko's homer ties the game in the ninth. But, like you said, TCQ and Alexei choked as usual. You simply cannot build a team around pitching and have a bad defensive team. It won't work. It has never worked. Until the White Sox put some importance on defense and getting on base we will get the annual "I believe in the talent" speeches from KW signalling dissappointing results.
  19. Hawk has had some curious slip ups tonight. I hope he's OK. I sure hope if KW doesn't seem to care about offense next year he helps his pitching staff by acquiring some defense.
  20. I still thinkl greg775 was on to something. Trade Ozzie for Piniella. Ozzie can manage in the NL. Lou doesn't have to watch pitchers hit, just guys who hit like pitchers hit. Neither would have to move. Neither would be held accountable if their new team goes nowhere. It could spark both teams.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 17, 2010 -> 09:20 AM) We could also throw in Nick Johnson who is hurt What a shock.
