  1. 81-81 with no money to improve the team is the epitome of mired in mediocrity.
  2. What they needed to do was send Tony home then.
  3. The problem with this guy is he seems to be suited to be a DH. But I was reading up on him, and he has a great BB/K RATIO. Only Ichiro really compares.
  4. You weren’t going to get playoff victories in the years of the rebuild if they were trying to win. They would be beyond godawful right now. At least there is talent on the team.
  5. I looked back at White Sox 2nd round picks. It is amazing. In the last 52 years, their best pick by career WAR is Bob Wickman at 16,9. Second is Jeff Weaver at 15.2. He didn’t sign. Third is Ryan Sweeney at a little over 6. Fourth is Trace Thompson a little over 3. Fifth is Jeremy Reed. Slightly over 2. The last 3 acumilated most of it with other teams. in the last 52 years, the White Sox 2nd round pick who put up the most WAR in a White Sox uniform is Jake Petricka. Below 2 for his career.
  6. There’s risk. He missed time last year. So something changed. He usually wore a sleeve on his elbow when he warmed up in the bullpen, but always took it off before he got into the game.
  7. When Hahn brings up Swarzak and Holland as examples of after the meetings moves, that’s the kind of crap we are looking at. Swarzak wasn’t bad but was flipped for garbage. Holland was a waste of $6 million and released. So they are looking for bargains. Guys desperate for a job. Can’t wait to congratulate Rick at the parade.
  8. And he said it’s been torn for years, which means there is probably no way his contract is insured.
  9. So by deduction you have Burger, Eloy, maybe Hendriks, maybe Sheets and a few minor leaguers as guys Hahn might trade to fill holes. we know he isn’t trading Vaughn or TA. Moncada and Yaz will get him nothing, I can’t imagine he would get rid of Robert, for a team that needs home runs, letting Eloy go would be risky. Plus he’s a pretty popular teammate.
  10. The other issue is he has a 5 team no trade list. They usually get to update these lists yearly, I have no idea if that is the case here, but usually the teams are the ones most likely to trade for him. He doesn’t have to put the Pirates on the list. Guys with huge contracts don’t have to put the White Sox on their limited list because they aren’t trading for him anyway. There’s probably a good chance most of the teams we would think want him are on the list, and in reality he may have no problem going there, but they probably would have to do something for him to waive. just keep him and start acting like a team pursuing multiple championships.
  11. Either he is trying to get someone to drop their price and sign quickly or he is being straight. The fact that he would try to sell Gavin Sheets as an OF blows me away, and if it was meant to scare anyone into signing, how low level must he be if Gavin Sheets is being thrown out there to scare him?
  12. His contract is bad if 2022 is what he is. Hes one year removed from a 4 WAR season. I still think he can be that or even a lot better. There will be more accountability and perhaps he had a wake up call.
  13. Still think it was a good trade, but letting the same people lead you out of a hot mess they got you in usually isn’t a great idea.
  14. I don’t think anyone wanting to win wants the Sox to trade Hendriks. But if they need the money, that’s on JR. I will say for as great as Liam has been, if they never signed him and just had an average closer the last 2 seasons, there is no doubt in my mind they still win the division in 2021 and lose in the 1st round of the playoffs and miss the playoffs in 2022. So really his performance never got to the point where it really mattered, like a tight must win playoff game. I’m glad they signed him. I think he’s awesome in so many ways.
  15. The list of reasons to move on from the guy is a lot longer than the list of reasons to keep him. He’s bright, no question. Seems like a nice person. But he’s just a bad GM, and if JR or KW conclude he’s actually a good GM who has been put in an impossible situation, why are they making the situation appear more impossible? It’s so messed up.
  16. Wellington Castillo. Why? Jay and Alonzo. Why? One that really chapped my ass, actually performed well but it was stupid. They pick up Joakim Soria and $8 million of his salary, to try to flip him at the deadline, because I’m guessing Chapman to the Cubs previously. Well Soria was better for the Sox than anyone could have expected, but theY were in the middle of a rebuild, why not see if you can find anyone in your system capable of being a closer. It may save you some money in the long run and failing wasn’t costing you anything. So Soria gets flipped for a minor league arm no longer in baseball and the Sox paid 5 or 6 million for this honor. Did everyone but Hahn know what Velasquez was a year ago? And I get the “3 million, 8 million is nothing “ crowd but it sure would be nice to have some of it available now.
  17. I was watching MLBN last night and Dan ODowd was going over their payroll, anticipating a couple more additions, saying it would probably be around $340 million plus close to a $100 million tax.
  18. So the White Sox would have had zero money to spend if Pollock did the smart money thing and exercised his option. That’s building a sustained winner right there. And the Gavin Sheets is an Of talk just shows you how committed they are to putting a championship roster on the field. if you think about it, JRs refusal to try to dominate the division is so sad. If, instead of weaseling out last winter, they actual signed someone they wanted everyone to know they pursued, Cleveland probably trades Ramirez. The Sox play down to their competition. I still think they can win the division, but why just get by? You expect your employees to do their best every day. It’s time JR starts doing his best every day, or let someone who will take over.
  19. Probably right, because it would be one of the dumber moves he can make.
  20. So the argument would be he won’t get hurt because he already was hurt? Shoulder and elbow. That’s crazy.
  21. He did make great trades for Sale, Q, and Eaton. But I do agree he has proven he shouldn’t be a MLB GM.
  22. Clevinger is the highest profile FA the Sox will sign this off-season.
