Buerhle's performance against possible playoff opponents make you wonder if he should be the guy going to the bullpen.

Game Thread Angels vs Sox 9/9 7:05
QUOTE(That funky motion @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 07:29 PM) What the hell is wrong with Mark! Get in this game! Exactly. The offense got him some runs. He failed to step up, again. This is happening more and more. Its time for him to turn it up.

A pathetic outing by Buerhle.

Mike Morse
QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) Hence the two year ban as the IOC has. Sit 10 games and reap the benefits for a few months/years. Exactly. If you make the penalties so severe guys would never recover from them, nobody would take any chances. I understand being called out is a deterent. But really, 10 days is nothing. I really think Selig's 50 games isn't enough. Make it 50 games, not days, and a clean test before you can play again. If it lingers in your system for 2 years, you sit for 2 years. Its funny about Palmiero, it is being speculated that his positive may have come from using steriods a while ago, but he couldn't use that as a defense considering how he popped off under oath.

Attendance crap
QUOTE(JimH @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 09:54 AM) . Of course, he lives in Arizona Talk about a tough commute! That's walking distance for certain Cub fans. At least 1 anyway.

Attendance crap
The fact is the only reason there is a Tribune story about attendance is to make sure the Sox have some negative to go along with their 7 game winning streak and virtual playoff lock. The Rogers article is also somewhat negative about their chances in the playoffs. Its time for a city and region to see through the crap this paper prints on its pages. Its so obvious what they are doing. Who cares what the attendance is on a Tuesday night against one of the worst teams ever. As a season ticketholder, I actually appreciated the extra room. The players shouldn't care. They have had trouble winning in front of sellouts. Also their paychecks aren't going to bounce. Attendance is going to be the 4th highest in team history. Lack of fans in the stands is not and should not be an issue.

Attendance crap
Obviously the crowds for KC have been very weak. It exposes the Sox small relatively small season ticket base. More people should be at the park, but on the other hand, the players shouldn't be commenting on attendance. Its going to be the 4th highest in franchise history. That and the fact that they haven't played all that well when the stadium has been packed should be enough for them not to comment.

Sox vs. Royals 9-7-05
Great job by the Count. Personally I think its time for the bullpen.
-
Sox vs. Royals 9-7-05
The Sox usually don't score a whole lot of runs when the Count is on the hill.
-
Sox vs. Royals 9-7-05
That was Contreras' best inning. Ozzie better watch it though. The 7th inning seems to be a big trouble spot for the Count.

Mike Morse
So Rosenthal is saying his May positive is the steriods he took last season. I'm sorry if I don't feel sorry for Morse. It is my belief that you should be suspended, and not allowed to play until you test negative. If there is year and a half lag time, tough. I'm not a doctor, but even testing positive for a very small amount means that stuff is still in your system, and you may be benefitting from it.

Bill Melton
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 07:17 PM) He is beyond awful on the TV pregames and postgames and on the radio he really adds nothing. Hell Dolgin carries him on the pre and post. Just say no to Melton! Not to mention, he can't say a sentence without saying "White Sox"

Petition to Keep John Rooney
The thing that's odd about this whole thing, is Rooney alledgedly told members of the organization that he was leaving last weekend. When the press release came out yesterday, at least in the articles he appeared a little taken aback. Just a thought, but maybe he or his agent overplayed their hand. All's fair and game in the art of negotiation. His agent tells the Score that he's out, and then Boyer goes to get confirmation from Rooney. Maybe that was just a ploy to get the extra money they were looking for. Its too bad. Rooney was around a long time.

Petition to Keep John Rooney
QUOTE(WSFAN35 @ Sep 3, 2005 -> 12:27 AM) This petition isn't going to get John Rooney back. It's a done deal. Personally, I'd like to see Dave Wills be given the job. He left because he wanted a broadcasting job with the Sox and couldn't get it because they already had Rooney and Farmer, now the job is his. Not sure about his contract situation with the Devil Rays, but I think he is a logical replacement. Farmer's doing PBP. Dave Wills isn't coming back. My best quess would be Stone, although I think he would be looking for just as much money as Rooney was looking for, so he may be out, or a guy like McDowell, who I think impressed many with a fill- in role earlier this year.

John Rooney will not be returning
QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 09:20 PM) According to some callers on 670, a couple years ago at SoxFest, John Rooney said that going to the Cardinals radio would be his dream. Also he is from Richmond Missouri so the possibility of him going to the Cardinals are not bad. Good Luck Roon and whatever you do, have fun. I believe he actually was offered the St. Louis radio job a couple of years ago and turned it down.

John Rooney will not be returning
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 09:06 PM) Farmer doing PBP full-time. That should be interesting and annoying. I think Stone will be considered, but he's probably going to want just as much as Rooney. Maybe Black Jack comes back. Please no Donn Pall.
-
John Rooney will not be returning
From the story on the team's website, Boyer said it was Rooney's decision to move on. And it appears the reason he is moving on is money related.
-
John Rooney will not be returning
From the link, it looks like it was Rooney's decision. Maybe he didn't like the money the Sox were offering, but at least it wasn't the White Sox telling him to go scratch. I think that makes my theory about DJ possibly being groomed, mute.

John Rooney will not be returning
QUOTE(spiderman @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 05:58 PM) So what do you think is going to happen here ? Farmer and who in the radio booth ? Stone and Hawk on TV ? I'd love that, but I'd be shocked. I was just speculating DJ's 8th inning PBP that he does now may be grooming him to do PBP on the radio next season. I don't know anything, but anything is possible.

John Rooney will not be returning
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 05:52 PM) do you think Stone would put up with the Hawk? Yes. I don't think Hawk has nearly as huge of ego as some people do. Stone has a serious knowledge of the game, and being an ex-pitcher offers a different perspective. I really think Hawk's favorite partner was Don Drysdale, an ex-pitcher with a great deal of knowledge, and an ego. Those 2 disagreed a lot, but respected each other. I think Hawk respects Stone's knowledge of game.

John Rooney will not be returning
QUOTE(rangercal @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 05:50 PM) I bet the score wants steve stone to take his place. Though, I love stone, not at Rooneys expense, I will boycott the score from now. Maybe DJ doing play by play in the 8th inning, is being groomed to be the radio PBP guy, with Stone taking over the color on TV?

John Rooney will not be returning
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 05:47 PM) I wonder if Dave Wills is on his way back. If you heard what Dan McNeil said a couple of months ago, you wouldn't think so.
-
John Rooney will not be returning
This is shocking. I heard Rooney had a chance to go to St. Louis a couple of years ago, but remained loyal to the White Sox. I rarely listen to the games on the radio, but he's been an institution.

Official Game Thread 9/2
Harris seems to always get his hits in bunches and has 2 multiple hit games in a row, so you might as well ride him before he cools off. Unless Iguchi got injured last night, he appears to be fine. I still can't figure out Alan Trammell yesterday, unless he assumed Iguchi was injured. He had to know Iguchi would pinch hit against the lefty he brought in to face Harris, and since the infield was playing in, I would much rather have faced Harris with a righty than Iguchi with a lefty. Either that or walk Iguchi and have Pods face the lefty.

Ross Gload comments
QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 08:26 AM) before we got blum, konerko played like 2 months straight, he could have easily been up during that period. Cal Ripken played how many years straight? There are a lot of players that play everyday and only miss a game or 2 a season. When Albert Belle was on the Sox, he played every game and Jerry Manuel asked him if he wanted a day off. He said he'd take one when they clinched the division. People being paid $9 million a year, should be able to play 2 months straight.
