The object isn't to walk per se, it's to swing at a good pitch to hit. Usually on 2-0 the pitcher is forced to do that. If the Sox are swinging at pitches that are good to hit that are thrown first or second in the sequence, this stat doesn't matter. No one was complaining when they lit up Robbie Ray early and often in the sequence. If they are swinging at pitchers pitches that early, then this is a huge problem, one that coaching really couldn't reasonably fix. You would have to change personnel.

Grandal gets really cold then really hot. Very streaky. Always has been.

The team is as sleepy as a LaRussa post-game press conference.

A very energetic can of corn.

Yes I get it, but you are setting Fields up to fail if you keep passing on getting him some weapons and protection. But I guess there are so many holes best player available should probably be in play.

No one gives you as energetic of a strikeout than Harrison.

Trevor Bauer receives 2 YEAR suspension from MLB
Dick Allen replied to Kyyle23's topic in The Diamond Club
I agree. This was doing the Dodgers a solid. They knew he would fight it, so it will be probably ultimately be decided by someone other than MLB. So it's a Manfred win. -
I think he dove awkwardly for a ball. I could be wrong, I was at the game but that was a long time ago. I think Wells initially thought Hurt was a pussy for coming out of the game. The other thing I remember was I think that was before Soxtalk, but on sports radio the beef had been why is Frank DHing? He hits better when he plays 1B. After this, it was what was he doing playing 1B?

The concern for me is there was a LH starter that they just crushed last year, and they looked awful. I get that it is cold and all that goes with it, but KC got 6 runs. A shutout to me is something to be concerned about. There seems to be more going on here than a few injuries and a couple of slumps.

You are right, it isn't all his fault. The problem is this is a JR hire to try to , in his mind, right a wrong, and it was just wrong. They ignored his DUIs. They ignored he was out of the dugout for 11 years. They ignored the disaster in AZ, the last time he was given any baseball decision power. They ignored they had a shot at AJ Hinch, who many considered the gold standard for today's manager, or a shot at just about anyone they wanted. They bring in a has been, who admittedly wouldnt have taken the job if it meant he would be taken out of the HOF, and the Sox are now stuck with a guy who isn't going to outmanage anyone. That is a problem when the games mean a ton. Many speculate he has a hand in most if not all personnel moves, and it may be true. Why? Did they not see what happpened to the DBacks? Tony did mention he tried to get Valasquez when he was there. I am quite sure if Renteria was not fired, the Sox would have won the division last year. He probably would have spent the first round against Houston hyperventilating bowled over, but the result would have been the same. I am not so certain if he was still here, they would currently be on an 8 game losing streak. They didn't upgrade the manager when they had a shot at just about anyone they wanted. The guy got way too much credit for putting Rickey Henderson in LF, Canseco in FR, starting Dave Stewart and having Eck close. I did the same thing when I was 8 years old playing stratomatic.

Eloy is the offensive version of Rodon. Shows several flashes, even a Silver Slugger in 2020. But is always getting hurt. Eventually maybe he gets healthy and is a beast.

Ozzie, who loves Cueto, after seeing him pitch in Charlotte, said VV was better.

Besides LaRussa, the White Sox (JR) would never hire a big name manager expensive manager. When they ridiculously let go of Lamont with a depleted roster, even though they thought they were good enough to win, they went with Bevington.

I don't know why anyone would be surprised. Hawk took a lot of heat for firing him, and he probably went about it wrong, especially his very public pursuit of Billy Martin. But this is the same stuff that upset people 35 years ago. The guy is a product of managing jugernauts. As soon as Oakland stopped paying everyone, they sucked and he went to the Cardinals. He's no genius. Never has been. Owes his roster everything. It's the only reason he can say he is a hall of fame baseball person. If he went to the Twins or Brewers or the Padres instead of a loaded A's roster ready to win, he just would have been another guy.

I wouldn't bring the infield in. You can give up a run and still be alive.

He pulled up and cost the Sox 1 and 2 with 2 out instead of out of the inning. A body should be able to hold up running hard to first or there really is no sense playing the player. You are going to have to run hard sometime. The Sox have led the league in hammy injuries the last 3 years. It cost Allen Thomas his job. I'm sure they are doing something different. Hopefully they stop. I can't stand LaRussa, but if asking a guy to run hard down the line is wrong, they should just cancel the sport.

What The Actual F# Is Wrong With This Team?

VV is a curious choice to get the beat of the team from. He obviously was a waste of $3 million. He is no better than anyone they could call up from AAA. His starts are basically surrenders unless the offense scores a crazy amount of runs. I have heard both TV and radio mention the short spring training hampered any changes they wanted to make with him, although they signed him knowing spring training would be short. If the Sox fail this year, and really it's only been a bad week, the failure occurred during the winter when for whatever reason, JR not wanting to spend more, RH and KW thinking all the heavy lifting was done, or crazily thinking La Russa was worth a ton of wins. We have known for Yeats some of these guys get hurt all the time. You were short a starter with Lynn and is bad knee healthy. That did not work. VV being successful was a pipedream. Tony winning you more games with his decisions tan costing you games was very debatable last year. To think that would improve is nuts. I still think this is a good team and will have a good season. But playing like the Twins did last season is a possibility. Nothing other than the speed in which it happened should surprise anyone. Eloy, Mocada, Robert, Pollack hurt. Lynn with a bad knee. VV a gas can. Those were all easy bets.
-
Eloy not busting it down the line cost the Sox an out on Friday night. It also potentially cost them the game, but the way way they are hitting, probably not. Now he does the right thing and bam. He is another guy you can count on to get hurt every season. TA should be having some leg issues soon.

4/23 GT: Sox @ MIN (3:05 CST)
Dick Allen replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in 2022 Season in Review
Ticket sales must be slow. Sox will wear their city connect jerseys during Monday home games. They are selling tickets for those games with concession credits. $10 for upper deck, $20 for lower deck and $30 for club level. Those are the credits. $20, $40 and $50 are the ticket prices. -
They are already 1 game out of first place. It's over. Back up the truck and start over.

I posted a list of all of the White Sox 2nd round picks since they started a draft. If the reason they didn't sign Conforto was because of the 2nd round pick, there is some serious thinking problems. Since no one has signed him, I'm guessing his shoulder must be fucked up. They haven't drafted anyone in the 2nd round since Ryan Sweeney who has a 2.0 WAR for their career. Sweeney's was 6.9. The only other 2 with a 2.0 career WAR or higher since they drafted Terry Forster in 1970 were Jeff Weaver, who they didn't sign, and Bob Wickman who they traded before he ever played a game for the team.
