The Gigantic all encompassing TRADE THREAD
QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 01:55 PM) Did Johnson help Houston get to the World Series in 1998? I believe the answer is no. What did Johnson cost Houston? Two future All-Stars. So was it worth it to Houston? Half a season of a stud pitcher for 5 or 6 years of two All-Stars. Would Houston have won the WS since if they didn't make that trade. The answer is no. Its worth the gamble.

The Gigantic all encompassing TRADE THREAD
QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 01:33 PM) Precisely... they have comparable ERAs despite Schmidt pitching in a pitcher's league and park. And how has El Duque faired lately? What is his prognosis? Rest didn't help him last time. Schmidt has won 3 in a row. Using your logic, Houston would never have traded for Randy Johnson in 1998. He was horrible in Seattle that year, and was going to a bandbox where he dominated. If Schmidt is consistanly throwing 94 or 95 then its a pretty good gamble to go for it all.

The Gigantic all encompassing TRADE THREAD
I'm pretty sure White Sox fans are the only ones who would b**** when their team with the best record in baseball, who haven't won a World Series in almost 90 years, are rumored to be interested in acquiring an ace pitcher to add to their depth, and block him from going to a rival.

The Gigantic all encompassing TRADE THREAD
QUOTE(VAfan @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 10:22 AM) Granted, he's hurt, but Gload's numbers from last year project better than Snow's and he's the same kind of hitter. Plus, I'm not saying he's the key to the deal. If swapping Sweeney instead of Anderson, or Bajenaru instead of Takatsu/Vizcaino would make the deal, fine. Remember, these are add ons to Contreras/Uribe who are both major league players. I just see no deal for Schmidt or AJ Burnett or any other starter working unless the other team will take Contreras as part of it. We aren't going to have $45 million of a $70 million payroll tied up in 6 starters next year. Schmidt has a buyout. Starting pitchers can be traded. The idea is going for a world championship, not just hoping to make the playoffs and hoping to win a series or two. If the Sox acquired Schmidt for minor leaguers, I guarantee you ESPN would have a different attitude about them. And if they did win the WS, the payroll next year would swell to a lot more than $80 million.

According to the SF Chronicle, there were White Sox scouts watching Schmidt last night. Oriole scouts also. Looks like KW is aiming high.

Gary Sheffield for Mike Cameron trade?
What's with all the deferred money in Sheffield's contract? Steinbrenner is so cheap.

White Sox at Detroit Tigers 6/28 6:05
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 05:43 PM) Ugh. Figures that we stop hitting as we go into a series at Detroit and at Oakland, where will will have to throw McCarthy against their best pitcher, all while Minnesota gets the pleasure of being the next team to sweep KC and Tampa. I'm not sure I want to think about what our lead will be in a week. The Sox are doomed. Oh well, maybe next year.

Best Sporting Event
In 1985 I went to the Iowa/Michigan football game. Iowa was ranked #1 at the time, Michigan #2. It was a defensive battle, and Iowa won on a field goal with no time on the clock. It was an unbelievable game, and the moments after it was over may have been even more memorable.

The Gigantic all encompassing TRADE THREAD
ESPN magazine thinks the Sox should get Hasagawa from Seattle. As far as Moyer goes, he's been pitching better in June, and I know KW was after him when he was a free agent after 2003. He gave up 44 homers last year, and only 6 so far this year. I wouldn't give up a top prospect, but maybe a middle tier guy for him if there wasn't anything better out there. I'm pretty sure KW has been working the phones hard looking to see what is and what could be availble in the next month.

any interest in Jo-Bo?
If Borowski was willing to go to Charlotte I'd sign him. There's nothing to lose and if he can't get his velocity up he stays there. I think the only time he's been effective this season was against the White Sox, and the first time if the wind wasn't howling in from LF at the Urinal one of the flyouts would have gone about 450 ft.

Belle - Think he'll make it in..???
QUOTE(TaylorStSox @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 01:01 PM) If Puckett makes it, then Belle should make it. They both had to leave the game early for health reasons unrelated to baseball. Belle was a better player (hitter at least). Puckett was a main cog of 2 world championship teams, plus he was a media darling. That gets you votes that Belle won't get.

Kendall gill makes his boxing debut...
Don't get too thrilled about his boxing prowess. The tomato he fought is now 0-2 and hasn't made it to the 2nd round.

MELTDOWN Thread
Something you don't see everyday. The only 2 guys in the White Sox starting line-up who reached base both got pinch hit for.

I need a favour...
I have a window sticker with the Sox emblem. Underneath it there is Season Ticketholder. I suppose you could cut that off if you wanted. If you want it I can send it to you.

Jose.......
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 05:40 PM) He was also helped by 2 Gooch webgems in one inning and Dye gunning Aramis at the dish. Oh well, we lost. Crede's near homer snapped Maddux back into form. I think Cub pitching retired the last 14 hitters. You aren't going to win many games at USCF when the temperature is 90 and you only score 2 runs. I think the Messiah will get lit up tomorrow.

Jose.......
Contreras wasn't bad after the first 4 hitters. The 5th run scored when Konerko tried for an ill-advised DP with Patterson running. He had the runner dead at home. Cotts gave up a hit with Contreras' runner on for the sixth run. A rough first hurt.

Jason Schdimt to the Sox??
QUOTE(upnorthsox @ Jun 25, 2005 -> 08:43 AM) Or is it his sudden drop in velocity? Or both? Be very wary when you're ready to give up the farm for guys with unexplained velocity drops. Koch Supposedly he was hitting 95 his last start.

Steve Phillips
He is commenting on the All Star Game. He said LaRussa is going to load the team with Cardinals. Stoney had to correct him, and tell him the manager doesn't have much of a say as to the reserves this year. But here's the topper. He just called the Cardinals, a team that has lost 3 straight, and is 5-5 in its last 10, and is 5 games behind the White Sox, the hottest team in baseball. Oh, and he also said the toughest job in baseball is GM of the Mets. Go cry yourself to sleep, Steve.
