QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 06:30 AM) Why do you think they believe he will give them a discount? Because they are willing to trade assets to get him here to "see the culture", believing that it will trump money. Just remember, his agent got Albert Pujols out of STL, which shocked the world. There are a lot of nice places to play MLB. Money is what talks. If they are prepared to offer him the most money, it makes no sense to trade assets for him now.

All I know is a guy who loved playing here and was beloved by fans, Paulie Konerko, checked out the open market. Why wouldn't Machado? It is going to happen anyway. I am a season ticket holder and prefer to attend games the Sox win. Machado, especially if he goes back to SS, has a chance to be the best player in baseball. So that would be good for me. Hahn was quoted as saying this was the tough part of the rebuild, and patience was the guy. They are doing the total opposite now. Obviously their dream was to add Machado. Keep the talent, and pay him more later. That is the patient thing to do. It is ridiculous to think he is giving them a discount.

According to the Athletic article they can have one of Giolito, Kopech but not both. This is pretty insane if it happens. I really don't know why they believe having him play there willl get him signed , and not lessens their chances. Money talks. If they think he will love,Ricky Renteria so much he will accept a lowball offer, they need to be replaced. If you are going to make,us,sit through a rebuild, follow.theough, and come up with an offer next winter. If they do this and it fails, heads should roll.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 08:40 PM) I have a feeling he may not have seen Hahn's comments today. I think he is probably right. I think it is just a token effort to get their name attached to his for next year.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 08:33 PM) Because he isn’t interested in the second contracts with those players Well, he has given the line about years of control and their window of winning. It is inconsistent. It would be a ballsy move, but if trades 2 or 3 of his new prized possessions and Machado flees in a year, it is a total disaster.
-
If Hahn truly feels having him for a year will make it easier to sign him, why has he been affected by others contract status who actually have longer terms? Why would he be concerned about Chris Sale, he would know the culture and fall in love with resigning for less. The 2 years left with Avi and Abreu wouldn't be an issue.

QUOTE (oneofthemikes @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 08:01 PM) Lol. "Giolito, Lopez, plus” is literally what it took for the Nats to get Adam Eaton for FIVE YEARS and you’re saying that same package MIGHT get one season of Machado? Yes. Although I could see it being one of those guys, Tim Anderson, and maybe some lottery ticket. Could you imagine the outrage on this board if Hahnhad Machado and traded him for a package centered around Blake Rutherford?
-
QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 07:55 PM) Correct. I believe the question was the level of "acceptance" Sox fans would have in the type of package that would be sent over. Rutherford seemed like that level. No one said that is what they expect it would cost. If that is the level, then if this trade happened, they won't be happy.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 07:46 PM) Rutherford was a top 50 prospect as recently as last July. Not sure I get the comparison to Kevan Smith. Was is the key word. .674 OPS in A ball doesn't get you Manny Machado. It is beyond ridiculous. Giolito, Lopez, plus might do the job.
-
I think the White Sox are just doing this for show. No way they get Machado without giving up multiple top prospects, and almost assuredly going to the open market in a year. They get to show him how much they want him and not tamper.
-
Why in the world would the Orioles want Rutherford for Machado? Am I missing something here? If this type of trade is available, why doesn't Hahn send Kevan Smith to Washington for Harper?

QUOTE (Reddy @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 02:38 PM) This new DNC is on fire. I love it. Such a Perez/Ellison tag team fanboy right now. Their GOTV, voter outreach and campaign plans have been paying huge dividends so far. Dems are +15 nationwide in a generic ballot in a new poll today as well. This could be tsunami if Trump remains in office and keeps acting Trumpy. Trump has a 47% approval rating in Alabama and he is 0-2 in elections there. You have to figure his approval rating in that state can't be higher anywhere else. He is poison to a campaign. The longer he's around, IMO, the better it will be for dems elections moving forward. I have the feeling once these tax cuts occur though, he is going to start to get hit from the right. If Trump leaving in disgrace is the consolation prize, it's still OK for most, but some of the collateral damage will not be able to be fixed. People are going to die because of him. People are going to lose a lot because of him, and sadly many of those people are people who believed his BS and voted for him.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 01:47 PM) how He got the day and year correct but apparently he believes June is the 7th month.

Sox interested in Jose Bautista per Phil Rogers
Dick Allen replied to EvilJester99's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Unless he was hurt, Joey Bats is done. Numbers down across the board and his strikeouts skyrocketed. Perhaps he can find a better steroid mix. -
On Trump's absentee ballot for NYC mayor, he got his date of birth wrong.

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 10:18 AM) You could even offer up Anderson and Rodon and see if they bite There is no way the Orioles would take Rodon. Ingrown thigh hairs freak them out.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 10:08 AM) Which makes the Machado and Harper free agencies unprecedented So since the White Sox have never gone there, so they won't, would also apply to every other team. So is this Harper and Machado's final season?
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 09:59 AM) That's like saying your friend covered the table's bill at Chili's, so he definitely would do the same at Gibson's. The Sox spending $50 million on a very young international FA isn't all that comparable to a veteran FA who will cost $300+ million. How many teams have spent $300 million on a free agent? This, the Sox have never done it, so it won't happen has blown up a couple of times in poster's faces the last few years. There is a reason Olney mentioned them yesterday, and it wasn't because they are going to drain their farm system for a season of Machado.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 08:18 AM) It's weird, I could have sworn I read something about him being set for maybe rehab in April-May and not MLB until later, but now I can't find it. Maybe I was confusing him with Rodon or something. I could be wrong! The White Sox haven't exactly been forthcoming with their injuries the past year or so, so who really knows. But at least this was a re-positioning and not a reconstruction, so you would think the recovery time will be a lot shorter.

The reason Trump endorsed Luther Strange is because he thought Roy Moore couldn't win a general election. He was right. What a pathetic attempt to save face. Both of your endorsements lost.
-
USA Today publishing an editorial stating Trump is unfit for office. He is unfit to clean the toilets at the Obama Presidential Library, and he is unfit to shine W's shoes.

Fraudulent, illegal votes pay off for the dems. This must be investigated. Sad.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 06:46 PM) I have a feeling the White Sox really want and are hoping to trade Jose Abreu but aren’t going to budge from their asking price https://twitter.com/barstoolWSD/status/940737491669278720 This is exactly what I said when I was mentioning the Hahn meeting I was at. Same with Avi .

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 06:52 PM) The fact that they're looking at him now means that they'll be going for his services this time next year. That is what I think this is all about.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 06:39 PM) I still feel like I must be taking crazy pills that I'm the only one weary of giving Machado who hasnt come close to being a bonafide middle of the order bat a 300 million dollar contract. Are you kidding me? Look at his numbers. He was horrible the first half of 2017, but if he isn't a middle of the order bat, the team you have must win 145 games. They aren't going to trade for him. But we can all be excited that they seem to have their sights set on trying to bring him in.
