QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 11:45 AM) Not sure what it would even be considered. I like the direction as is...and really don't see the need to even contemplate signing any big name FAs in the foreseeable future. Of course that's just my 2¢... Hahn made it seem last night that this season and next are the rebuilding years, and some trades and/or free agency should fill in the holes after next season. That the money they don't spend this season and next would be used for 2019 and beyond. So his target to contend is 2019. I think it's a bit aggressive, but if these guys are as advertised with minimal busts, it's possible.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 11:27 AM) I'm not a huge fan of only judging trades based on the end results years later. Trades should be judged on both the end result and the value traded the day the trade was made. To make an extreme example, if we traded Courtney Hawkins for Mike Trout tomorrow and Trout got hurt in a freak accident and never played another game while Hawkins inexplicably somehow becomes an above-average regular, would that incredible stroke of good and bad luck make that trade a bad one for the White Sox? The fact is prospect rankings are done by people who aren't paid by MLB teams. So their relevance, and judging whether a trade was good or not based off that, doesn't matter. I'll never forget hearing the story how Dave Wilder BS'd his way into having his guys ranked higher. Ultimately, it doesn't matter what Jonathan Mayo or Keith Law or any of these guys think, it's what the White Sox think. They made these trades thinking they are trading for the correct pieces. Who knows, maybe to them, Rutherford is a top 10 guy. maybe to the Yankees he's a top 60. If they are wrong, the "well Keith Law really liked it" doesn't make it excusable. If they are right, it's all on them as well, not it was a no brainer. They can only trade these guys once. Hopefully the main pieces turn out as well as they hope.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 11:15 AM) I presume we won't get the type of offer we'd like to move Jose. I agree. He's worth more to the White Sox than other teams. I think it's a good idea to keep a vet or 2 around anyways. Last time the Sox totally rebuilt like this, they kept Carlton Fisk around even though he was 40ish. When they White Flagged it, they kept several guys around. We will see. A lot happens in a few months. But Hahn sort of made it clear last night, this year and next season are the tank years, then the winning is supposed to commence. Hopefully the prospects make that a reality.

Machado's OPS is actually .008 lower than Todd Frazier's this year.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 10:42 AM) He was a 5th round pick and a Rule 5 guy right? You're acting like we just traded Kershaw for the corpse of Borchard. What does that have to do with it? Q was a 6 year minor league free agent. Mark Buehrle was a 38th round draft pick. Kahnle averages 15 k per 9 innings in the major leagues this year. Rutherford has been ho hum in A ball. Yet Kahnle is sure to have a bad month and be worthless, while if Rutherford has a good month or 2, he's untouchable. I just hope some posters here are prepared when some of these guys (and not necessarily Rutherford) bust. It will happen, yet being ranked #1 on the farm seems to mean as much to some as winning the WS. Who cares what you are ranked. What matters is what these guys become. The Sox staff is on the clock.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 09:55 AM) They didn't get any top up the middle talent in any of these moves. But they can trade for some...they'll have to. That's why I really think the easy part is done, and the hard part lies ahead. They signed Anderson to a decent contract. Moncada, Robert, Collins.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 09:25 AM) Guys, this very much is not over. They'll simply decide not to fund the ACA and it will die. They'll create the outcome that causes it to fail. Of course, and hopefully they will be held accountable. Using Americans and their health as pawns for political gain is beyond disgusting. It really should be criminal.

QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 09:43 AM) But there is not as much control left on Kahnle, and if he's dealt next deadline it would be as a rental. Also, if there is one thing the White Sox have in spades it's right handers with explosive stuff. They are in a pretty good position to replace Kahnle without ever noticing hes gone. Kahnle is controlled 3 more seasons after this one.

QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 09:03 AM) I guess. I'm not sure what a team on pace to win like 60 games has to benefit from having the next Andrew Miller. The theory being, like many here who think a Kahnle implosion is inevitable, if you held him and he continued to perform, he would be like a cheaper Andrew Miller, and he would eventually net you a prospect even greater than Blake Rutherford. Why did the team need Q the first half of the season? The fact is, if you are going to trade them you want the best deal, and patience can work for you or against you. Maybe ultimately this was the best deal. But none of us know right now.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 08:38 AM) Trading players that wouldnt have been part of the rebuilt White sox means is 100% isnt going to "blow up in their faces." Its amazing we fixed a reliever and used him partly to bring back young talent. Thats how you rebuild. If Kahnle becomes elite and Rutherford busts, the trade blew up in their faces. 60 strike outs in 36 innings. I saw something that if he has you 0-2, you are screwed. MLB hitters are 2-39 with 32 strikeouts if they fall behind him 0-2.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 08:12 AM) You are overvaluing what we just traded. 1) Frazier is a pure rental and not worth much in a deal on his own 2) Robertson is a fairly high priced closer on a team with no use for him. Nice to get that salary off of our books. 3) Kahnle has had 3 months of good production, but the track record does not back it up. Could it be a full breakout? Sure, but given what happened to Jones I'm not sure we want to try and get greedy. "Hogs get fat, pigs get slaughtered" I keep reading anyone who isn't in love with this deal is overvaluing the White Sox players. I know Blake Rutherford has been highly regarded here and a lot of places, but his stock has slipped a bit this year. Sure, maybe he becomes a monster, but right now if he were a White Sox draft pick there would be a ton of moaning about his performance thus far this season which isn't terrible, but not exactly great. I personally neither love or hate the trade. It's one that can easily blow up in each team's face, also can be even overall (If these guys help the Yankees make the playoffs, I don't think they worry about Rutherford, especially considering their OF prospects). IMO, it's one of the rare trades that years from now can look ridiculously stupid or smart for either team. So I would guess that's a fair trade. Frankly, I would have preferred they held on to Kahnle for a while, made him a closer, and rolled the dice this isn't a fluke. In the winter or next summer, if he is still cruising along, he would be worth his weight in gold. I could understand the chance to get Frazier/DRob off the books, and acquire a guy they have really liked could trump that. Using Nate Jones being injured as reason to dump Kahnle doesn't make sense. It would be like hey Profar was a top prospect and he got hurt, so top prospects should be avoided.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 10:11 PM) Tito Polo, OF: The Pirates signed Polo out of Colombia in the spring of 2012. He emerged as an interesting talent by hitting .291/.374/.475 in the Gulf Coast Rookie League in 2014, but slumped to just .236/.313/.328 in the Low-A South Atlantic League in 2015, though he did steal 46 bases. He returned to West Virginia to open 2016 and hit a strong .302/.368/.551 in 225 at-bats, leading to his promotion to the High-A Florida State League, where he slashed .276/.351/.346 in 214 at-bats for Bradenton. Polo is 5-9, 185, a right-handed hitter and thrower born August 23rd, 1994. His best physical tool is speed and he's aggressive about using it on the bases, but unfortunately his weak arm and mediocre defensive instincts will likely limit him to left field at the highest levels. He's well-built physically and has some pop in his bat, but his strike zone judgment is erratic and his power evaporates every time he's promoted. He then makes adjustments and gets the pop back, but whether that will remain true when he reaches Double-A and Triple-A (let alone the majors) remains to be seen. He's an interesting speculative investment and would be a Grade C+ prospect at this point. So your 2020 Charlotte Knights LF. Fast guys are nice but the name of the game is power. Hopefully Hahn acquires enough guys who hit a lot of homers.

QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 08:24 PM) Max WildsteinVerified account @MaxWildstein 4m4 minutes ago Prospects Jorge Mateo & Miguel Andujar are both still playing in their respective minor league games at AA/AAA. #Yankees When you are trading for minor leaguers, it isn't as necessary to hold them out. A major injury could change things, but other than that, it isn't like a mkajor leaguer you will be counting on right away. So I don't think if they are playing it rules them out.
