Madrigal 3000 hits "very reachable"
He will register 600 plate appearances a year if the is healthy. He will get 180 hits. If he does that and plays until he is 41 he can do it. Will he stay healthy and will be want to paly until he is 41 who knows. You can compare him to David Eckstein but Eckstein never hit over .300 so that is really not a good comparison. If he doesn't correct his defense and base running he will not make it. He has the bat to ball skill and speed to do it.

Joc to Cubs
No this board had Joc as a great fit for the Sox for a couple of years. You could see the angst on this coming from a mile away. That fact he signed for the same as Eaton is the topper yet he signed for the same as Eaton so while Eaton may not be worth $7M a year, Joc isn't worth much more..

Joc to Cubs
My guess is that the White Sox offered both 1 year $7M. Eaton took it and Joc waited 2 months to take the deal. I assume Joc wanted multiple years and a higher AAV and caved today. If Joc was offered a full time role than good for him. Joc has his ring so this is the best situation for him to face LHP and get a bigger deal next year. Everyone can piss and moan how great Joc is but this is a nothing deal that only a Sox message board would be up in arms about. Joc is so awesome he got a one year $7M deal. When Eloy goes on the DL Eaton can play against LHP and have some success Joc cannot. In late August this board would b**** and moan about how bad Joc is against LHP and what an idiotic move this was.

Jerry Reinsdorf is cheap
If they intend to contend for the next 6 years Bauer and Springer are not the answer. They need to extend Gio and Lynn. They need a back up catcher to be the safety net if Collins or Yaz go down. They need an innings guy to bridge to Kopech or other young arms further down the road Bauer is not that guy. Relying on Lopez and Cease and then Kopech at some point is a real BAD plan. It may work but the odds are not good. If Vaughn is the DH on opening day.....fine...I'd prefer a bat to bridge to Vaughn but whatever. Yadi and Wainwright make too much sense...it's not that difficult but alas I feel our team is on the floor. The offseason made us a little better but not nearly what it should have or could have done and I do not mean 6 figure extended deals. I am against the I hate JR bandwagon folks but I am now thinking about looking at the price of a ticket to board.

Hector wrong. Again. - Cruz back with Min
When Grady Sizemore had the ball hit him in the head if that day played out differently, I believe it was fan appreciation day, the White Sox and Indians would have been tied for first with a week to go. It got very close there in late September

Jameson Taillon traded to Yankees
I'm unaware of this. Is this the same data that San Diego produced in regard to James Shields health? Who benefits from this data if it is internally generated. Again I am unaware this policy but if anyone believes any internal data from San Diego, God help them.

Hector wrong. Again. - Cruz back with Min
He admitted he did steroids the rest of he story you can believe or not but it does not matter. So you believe the innocent mistake of going on a diet and picking up something at GNC and not asking the professionals at your disposal and instead trust the GNC clerk in the dietary section?

Jameson Taillon traded to Yankees
I think the lost year of development really helped the Padres as the 18/19 year old's became 19/20 years without having to perform and show growth. This may have hurt the White Sox as they now have to wait another year for Colas instead of six months and then hurt in the evaluation of the high school and younger Latin players they have signed who were unable to perform.

What is pathetic about admitting to it? I'd rather he just do that. Look at Braun for instance and the others that blame GNC and what not.

Student Loan Debt
People that graduated college prior to 1995...like ME...have no concept of student debt to that great of a magnitude as public institutions were more affordable. You could realistically put yourself through college back then. Boomers didn't need college as much and the cost again was about the same as Gen X I would guess. The 50 year old man that spent 6 years going to college cannot talk about student debt similarly to a 30 year old today.

The Wainwright to the Cards Thread
Wainwright is as good a gamble as any of the other flyers/trades that have been made recently. All he needs to do is give them innings.

The Wainwright to the Cards Thread
He has made 41 starts total over the last 5 years how can anyone complain about any move if they think he will make it into June?

COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
You should come live in Chicago/Cook/Illinois.....there is a middle class and very well paid entrenched union culture that is run like a mafia but everyone is leaving (or talking about it) for Indiana or the south because they are being taxed to death. Regardless of the fact that there are jobs and people are well off. Crime is becoming more of an issue.

Michael Brantley to the ASTROS 2 years 32 mill per Nightengale
Yes all that money the Phillies spent the last two years got them that much closer to the Marlins and now they have to drop another $100M+ on a free agent catcher. What has all the FA signings gotten the Angels? Let's wait until Joc or Bauer sign and then we can determine how cheap the Sox are as most of these deals are terrible deals before the ink dries.

Dodgers sign Bauer (3/102, opt-outs, 40-45-17)
Go back to bleeding cubbie blue and enjoy the next rebuild.

Student Loan Debt
I have a kid in college I am a CPA so I think I have some ability to exist in society as an adult. As a one income home I make a nice living but will not able to send my three kids to college without some loans/assistance. My wife is gaining traction in the working world as my kids are older so by kiddo number three it may be easier. The FAFSA process ends up working but as a platform you need to work to figure it out and from Tex v Two Gun Pete you can see there are different ways that this appears until Tex gets us straightened out from a trailer on campground somewhere in west Texas (just kidding ya Tex your summation is spot on). My son's private school got his $54K tuition with room and board down to $20K via scholarships. My son via FAFSA has unsubsidized loans of $6,400 annually. I paid off year one by beg, borrowing and stealing but with new COVID things (low rates) I took out $14K in PLUS loans. After this year he will be on his own and graduate with about $50K in debt. That is not crippling but also puts some steak in the game. I have kid number two coming up in a couple years. He is a better student and wants to go to the same school so he may end in the same place. $50K in debt. If both kids get jobs around Chicago and want to live at home for a couple of years they can do that rent free. I will also help them with their debt after graduating college. My third child is much younger so I have time on that one. I became an accountant because I was decent at it and it got me job and has kept me employed. Do I like it ....sometimes...but I cannot complain. That's the reality of the world sometimes when it comes to a career. I do think that going away to college is important as it is a controlled environment in which you learn to somewhat live on your own and manage yourself socially, professionally and financially. Some kids can do this without going away but some need this. The largest issue currently though is that an individual cannot support himself/herself and put themselves through college as easily as it was in my day (late 80's). I had some help from my family and I worked to make the rest meet. I made decent money on and around campus to pay my room and board and my family paid the tuition. I spent 4 years on campus at a state school with zero aid (except parents help), got a job out of college, and became a CPA. Fiscally my life is fine. My wife stayed at home for 8 years and with no college degree will make ok money moving forward but not enough to get us past middle/middle class.

Michael Brantley to the ASTROS 2 years 32 mill per Nightengale
Brantley seems like the type of player that will not age well but keeping him at just DH may work as he has been healthy the last two years so maybe the two years he was out I am giving too much credence too . I am thinking there is a Bauer signing coming up which is why these other deals are moving along.

George Springer to Toronto. 6 years/150 million
Toronto has to make these deals to try and just compete in their division. I am curious on the Brantley dollar amount.

the old Corbin Burnes thread, we have a new Burnes thread
I am not trying to put you down here but you keep bringing up the number of innings the number 4 and 5 guys need to pitch this season. The expectation has to be get 200+ innings from the big three and then cobble things together for the next year for Cease and two years for Kopech and Crochet. Cease is the 4 this is Stiever if he is moved Stiever is the 5 this is Burnes if he is traded for Neither Stiever or Burnes are expected to add to the rotation in the playoffs as there is not enough innings avail be in their arms. This may be the same thing for Cease as well. I agree that Richards is in the same boat. The plan though is to get through the season with te top three and hope there is development for 2022 and beyond with the rest of this group. I thought Quintana was a prime candidate to add but alas he is gone.

the old Corbin Burnes thread, we have a new Burnes thread
This is a great rumor to float as if this trade is made it takes Bauer off the table. If there are talks with Bauer this adds urgency This trade will add further fuel to the limited contention window as signing Bauer or overpaying for Wheeler keeps the prospects and extends the time the window is open. I'd love a Stiever/Cease and Madrigal deal then sign Wong (if he is still out there) but I do not see that being a enough...
