2015-16 NCAA Football Thread

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 11:00 AM) Nobody's saying ND should get a lot of credit for beating Texas, though as bad as Texas is they're still way better than Samford. If ND finishes the season with only 1 loss (which I doubt happens anyway), the fact that Texas sucks will hurt. The point is not the ND schedule it is the fact that they miss out on a potential season changing game by not playing in a conference. They may get overlooked if they have one loss to other teams with one loss that win a championship game in their final week. ND is not the late 70's DePaul teams in regard to schedule. It is a big disadvantage in my mind though. -

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 07:26 AM) ND is capable of creating a 12 game schedule that is more than challenging enough to make up for the lack of a 13th game. Just happens that sometimes big teams that get scheduled (Texas) turn out to not be good. Also the ACC slate will rotate, so some years Florida State or Clemson will be on the schedule and other years neither will. There is a home and home with Georgia coming up in a few years, MSU is getting back on the schedule, and regular opponents USC and Stanford are usually both top 20 teams. That is the problem though if MSU is down that is not as big a game as years when they are up (i.e. this year). Without the potential for a championship game comes the potential for a crappy schedule. Texas a was great idea at the time but now, not so much. Not ND's fault but it is the problem with being independent. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 12:50 PM) Does Comcast still have the "standard channels" and the HD ones? So if you pressed 2, it would take you to CBS but the standard def? Direct TV was awesome in that regard. Whatever the box (HD/SD) was, it picked up that type of signal. The AT&T U-verse DVR is complete s*** compared to Direct TV. AT&T sucks

QUOTE (kane0730 @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 04:16 PM) Soxfest Q & A should be epic. Does anyone go to that anymore? That seems to be a cheerleading event now that the Friday sessions require about $1,000 to attend.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 04:01 PM) I have to say, if we could get Acta and another solid coach, I'd be all for it. For whatever reason, I've never thought Harold would be that great of a coach (just too quiet). Of course, I'm totally assuming things here. He has been more on the scene on CSN over the last couple of years. There was a really good segment with him a couple of months back. My guess is that he did not want the travel aspect.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 10:57 AM) I left AT&T years ago after repeated issues with their service to my home...I went to Comcast/Xfinity, and as annoying and well documented of a s*** company they are...AT&T is *WORSE*. I use Verizon for my cellular service (it's a premium, but it has the network) I use Xfinity for Cable/Internet (sadly, nothing in my area comes close to Xfinity for Internet service) I will not use AT&T for ANYTHING for as long as possible. In two years I will certainly head that way. I did not mind AT&T wireless. Ugh

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 01:47 PM) How am I the only one who is disappointed that the pinwheels will be gone? Those are f***ing iconic. Those are not the same pinwheels. Those were replaced with the old board at the old park. They stopping spinning with the installing of DiamondVision. US Cellular is a great place to see a concert as the sightlines are much better than Wrigley and Soldier Field.

This is all part of my switch to AT&T from a combo of DirectTV, XFINITY and AT&T. AT&T customer service is nonexistent at this point in time. Wait times are over an hour. I have an outstanding cell phone bill for $ 452 that AT&T can not tell me what it is for only that I owe it. I agree it should be about $250. Not one feature of the AT&T platform performs properly at this time. This is all because I had to leave US Celluar which was awesome in every way shape and form. As is Direct TV. AT&T is once again to large and I was bamboozled

MY kid has an iphone... eating data like there is no tomorrow. He swears he only uses when connected to wi-FI. I go into this phone and find a setting that has all of his apps selected to use data plan instead of wi-fi. Is this really possible and is this the default setting. I am an android person and it seemed really shady to me and the i[phone seems to like to default to the data plan rather than wi-fi.

The White Sox suck at hitting and defense. Sanchez and Thompson should make the team next year simply by hitting .230. Thompson should have an OBP of .300 which on this team makes him a top hitter.

It is really sad that the Twins philosophy alone could get them into the playoffs while the white Sox muddle along with their poor philosophy. With he White Sox pitching staff they really should have easily still be in contention with a simple .500 record

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 28, 2015 -> 03:56 PM) I really, really hope we don't trade him. Sale-Quintana-Rodon-Johnson-Danks looks so much better than Sale-Rodon-Johnson-somebody-Danks. We have the highest starting pitching fWAR in baseball. Trading Quintana would turn a major strength into a league-average position for us. Losing 2-1 is not a lot of fun.

Official High School Football Thread!!!

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 26, 2015 -> 10:02 PM) I feel like I'm talking to myself but high school sports are big in Kansas where I've lived a while so I've tended to follow Brother Rice in football and basketball and have an interest. I still want to come back and go to a game on the south side sometime. I see Bro Rice outscored St. Laurence in another no huddle offense fest. I think it was 51-35. I could have sworn Rice's good back got hurt on the last series of the game, but the announcers didn't say who it was that went down on highschoolcube.com. Rice is 4-1 but I'm assuming Rice isn't a contender for anything significant courtesy of the 28-0 Loyola thrashing. I think Rice plays Mt. Carmel this week so another tough game. I remember back in the day St. Laurence was pretty good in football, but they kind of reek now. I also saw Marist lost to Benet Academy. Does Marist suck this season? Rebuilding or ? Benet is 4-1 but again I don't think that team is headed for anything significant. GO SOX! Marist and Rice are similar in that they will get good classes now and again but are not strong enough to win in 8A. Marist may end up 5-4 and open 8A playoffs at Rice (if they win out) or HF...who will destroy them Rice and MC this week could be a blow out either way or close. Rice has not looked good the last two weeks against lower class teams but each have talent. Loyola is in a class all by themselves right now. St Laurence revamped their football program and are getting better. -
QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Sep 25, 2015 -> 01:51 PM) This is a disgrace. Kindly move somewhere far away and burn all your indian head attire. Blackhawks fans should be better than this. How many accounts of this were there? How do you know this was a Blackhawks fan? I have yet to see where twitter is a useful source of anything other than showing how stupid people can be. Sports fans that send twitter thoughts about their teams that have no writing ability above the 8th grade should be disregarded.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 25, 2015 -> 12:49 PM) No. The key difference is there is nothing wrong with a woman having sex in her life. There clearly has been something wrong with Kane's alcohol abuse. And this time it led to him, at the least, publicly cheating on his fiance. How did he cheat on her? There is no proof of that although I am not naive enough to think anything less than 90% of professional athletes cheat on their significant others.

I will be interested in hearing what our good buddy bernstein has to say about this. He had Kane guilty from day one. I am not a real big fan of Kane but he seemed to do the things necessary to protect himself in that he hired a handler/driver/bodyguard to make certain some of the things he had done previously were not going to happen again. I think there are plenty of worse people in the NHL. The fact Kane gets to win cups and promote his debauchery via the parades seems to be the biggest issue with him.

Stars don't bring fans, winning brings fans. Stars pitch once every five games or fail 2 out of every three times they come to the plate which they only do four times a game. Prolific home run hitters hit them once every 3 or 4 games. IF you go to 8 games a year chances aer said pitcher will pitch once maybe twice and a prolific home run hitter will hit 2 home runs.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 02:14 PM) Ha, even when the Cubs win, they lose I'd take that in a hearbeat as a White Sox fan and seeing a banner raised does nothing for me in comparison to my team playing playoff baseball. The cub game will greatly overshadow a pretty meaningless hockey game. Opening Day in baseball ends a long cold winter. Opening day in hockey even with a banner raising signifies the start of a long cold winter. Game one of hockey playoffs is my equivalent to baseball opening day. IMHO

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 10:50 AM) Probably the wrong thread for it but Julie DiCaro sucks at her job. She supposedly has a Law Degree and stutters through updates every day. Nobody ever says anything because she's the token female employee at The Score now that Kerry Sayers (who was also terrible) is gone. I actually like Kerry Sayers but I am very biased as she was the lead reporter for Fox Chicago White Sox baseball coverage in 2005.

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 12:35 PM) The emergence of Montas should allow them to save face on that trade and just dump him too. I feel like they've put so much stock into sticking with him despite his overall suckitude because he was our big return for Jake Peavy. Whoever scouted him and thought he could play CF should be fired.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 03:13 PM) Chris Cotillo @ChrisCotillo 46m46 minutes ago Mackanin's new deal with Phillies includes option for 2017. Phillies retain Pete Mackanin on a permanent basis, extending him through the 2016 season. He and greg went to the same high school

Mike Olt has a higher ceiling and lower floor than Tyler Saladino and the White Sox are hoping he can make strides toward getting there. No real risk as they know what they have in Saldino. Personally I think Ramirez should be sitting with Saladino or Sanchez at short.

The next two weeks will be filled with how the match up orientated Joe Maddon is perfect for the one game playoff where he can bring two starters, ten relievers and how his brilliance will shine.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 12:27 PM) Why do people keep writing this? It doesn't make sense. There is no scenario in which not giving a QO makes sense. 1. Best case scenario, Sox give Shark the QO and he declines. White Sox get a top 35 pick. 2. Another scenario, White Sox give him the QO and he accepts. They can then either let him pitch all year to recoup some value and give him another QO next offseason or they could trade him during the season. Those are the options. Letting him become a free agent and getting nothing in return just doesn't make any sense. Luckily, it won't happen. I would be stunned if the Sox didn't give him the QO. I'd be just as stunned if he accepted it. he doesn't want to be here. He's wanted to be a free agent forever. Agreed this is the same scenario in which the Bears did not have Cutler playing for them this year. If he accepts the QO I think it makes it easy for Quintana to be traded. If the dissention is as big as it sounds he is not taking the QO. If he is looking to rebuild his stock he takes the QO.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 11:51 AM) No one in the Chicago media would ever call out Maddon. Only person that's come close this year was Bernstein with regards to Maddon's asshole comment about people in the stands paying attention to avoid getting hit by a ball. It is just a matter of time before Maddon's head and ego become over inflated as he gets more and more of the spotlight he seems to cherish. This team will head down the path of unlikability quickly. I believe Len Kasper has a show on every Chicagoland CBS owned radio station. Theo, Jed and Jason McCloud are all on the radio on a regular basis and Maddon has at least one weekly show.
