  1. Seabrook is becoming the Orlando Cabrerra in my mind to the Hawks Great game last night. The slow starts would be killing them if Khabby wasn't standing on his head early in these games. The book made me just shake my head. I get what they are trying to do I just think they are going over the top in getting there. It seems like we need to be over the top in making sure everyone knows we are fans of the team ala the cubs.
  2. Jenks, Konekro and Dye could all be of use to them.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 01:33 PM) I'm still waiting for the White Sox to get into a bidding war for a big time free agent and sign that player during the 21st century (not including Konerko, which was a totally different situation). A part of me thinks KW wants Manny to play left next year and DH after that. I also think he is going hard after Furcal or Roberts. Aren't Abreu and Guillen pals.......
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 01:16 PM) That team wouldn't win 70 games, and then the attendance decline would destroy our payroll for the following season. Sometimes, I wish people would take a step back and look at the roster they're actually predicting and think if there's any chance of that happening. Thank you. This thread is quickly turning into all of the marketable Sox players suck but the youth of other franchises rock. Having a young team is not the be all end all that is being portrayed here. If the Sox are giving up Jenks/Vazquez I better of heard of the player(s) they are getting I don't care about their potential VORP, OBP+, K/9IP, ERA+ or crap like that.
  5. QUOTE (CWSOX45 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 12:34 PM) The report out of New York is that he wants to start for the Mets. If they won't start him, then he wants to be traded to another team where he will continue to relieve. He just refuses to pitch from the pen in New York. He feels the Mets owe him a starting job. (Yeah right.) Either way if the Sox trade for him he will be pitching from the pen. I am not really up to speed on Heilman other than he has pitched for the Mets and is not a stand out on their staff. Jenks would be their second most productive pitcher IMO. For Heilman to not be able to start for them over the crap they throw out there tells me all I need to know. Jackson for Dye is a terrible move.
  6. The frustrating thing is how they, Boston and the cub can seemingly eat bad contracts with no ill affect. If Burnett sucks it does not negatively impact them as much as other teams.
  7. Michelle Obama looks like she could be the toughest person to ever reside in the White House. I am not sure why I think that but she looks like a lady that would kick your ass in a heartbeat. Women from the southside usually scare the hell out of me anyway. Women with power and from the southside.........I stand no chance.
  8. I think they make a run at Hudson or Furcal to lead off and give CF to Anderson. Ramirez will be the fall back in CF with the likes of Nix, Betemit, Getz, and Beckman for fall back middle of the infield guys. I think Danks takes CF or RF in 2010 which is why Anderson/Ramirez will be out there next year instead of a longer term guaranteed guy. I think the singing and dancing caught up with ole Nick. I think the Mets take a run at Dunn and K-Rod before looking at Jenks and Dye. Jenks will not be moved until the big free agents are signed.
  9. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 11:19 AM) You mean Art Vandelay? "And you wanna be my latex salesman!"
  10. QUOTE (G&T @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 10:41 AM) There's something that kept a lot of teams away. The offers seem to be Atlanta and the garbage the Cubs offered, which baseball people didn't believe was viable. There wasn't anything in between? Seems odd. You can bet every team in baseball inquired. The cubs run their organization via the media to keep their name and their "buzz" out there. They float the names of guys that they are willing to give up in hopes other teams may be interested. Now their fans can say that they took a run at this guy. Bruce Levine looks like dope for fueling this stuff though sometimes.
  11. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 02:22 PM) The Hawks don't care about you. That may seem harsh, but it's reality. I don't know your history Jenks Heat, but I have a hunch you have been a Hawks fan for a few years. If you sat in the stands during the 2002 season, there is a great chance your sitting there now. I'm in the same boat. They know I'm going to be at the UC win or suck, they don't have to advertise to me. They are targeting the casual fan, or the fan that hasn't been to the UC is 10 years. They have to kiss those fans ass, and it seems to be working. I agree but I am not sure any of that is selling the $80 seats as much as I finally get to enjoy really good hockey. I really can get over the orchastrated hype. With the Sox it seems to fit the motif of the team with the Hawks it just seems like they are piling it on extra thick. By the way I used to go to about 15 games a year but now that they are on tv, on I am in no hurry to get out there. BILL WAS RIGHT!!!!!
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 12, 2008 -> 11:07 AM) When there's nothing to complain about, people find a reason to complain. It's irriating and contrived. I love the fact that they are on tv which if they were not would never give rise to the hoopla that is irritating me. The Versteeg, Kane and Towes line is incredible. Sharp and Havlat are as good a second line wing combo in hockey. The defense is pretty solid and deep. The dualing goaltenders look really good. Joel and Bowman already appear to be making Detroit nervous. All reasons to be happy now stop kissing my ass as a fan it is insulting.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 11, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) Cubs blogs are going nuts with a rumor that Peavy is being dealt for Theriot, Pie, and Marshall (and then Cubs would sign Furcal). Please, please don't be true! If they want Furcal they can sign him......not yet BTW.....and move either he or Theriot to second.
  14. Anyone else getting tired of the kissing of the fans asses in the post game speech to the crowd after announcing the three stars of the game. Somehow the marketing of this team is getting to me a little. I am not sure if it is because I just think we are being treated like everyone is or what. The red carpet night and tributes to ex-players and all of the stuff. Even the skating around after the game and intermission coverage from the concourse with the doopy people in the background. The team itself is looking really good no need for the rest of that crap.
  15. Isn't the AFL where KW decided to go after Floyd? I think he puts a-lot of faith in the AFL and is why Poreda is in the pen.
  16. The full Fox Sports story has the A's increasing their payroll to $80M and going after Furcal for short and leadoff.
  17. Call it all the Kool-Aid you want but Hendry has fleeced enough people in the past. Although the Marlins got him pretty good on the Juan Pierre deal.
  18. Aaron Rodgers may throw for over 800 yards in his two games against the Bears.
  19. QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 11:49 AM) She obviously works out... so does her husband, but she still looks like she could beat his ass. Ever looked at her arms? I didn't like the dress at all but she is built like a bad ass I think she really could whip is ass. She looked taller and much more built than him.
  20. Levine has them or Atlanta getting Peavy. That payroll is going to be $200M in no time and as you see with the other teams that are trying to win with huge payrolls it doesn't necessarily work. Really sad that St.Louis and Houston have nothing to offer.
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 08:44 AM) Gotta love Bob Novak. People like that should not be allowed to give a point of view as they are so jaded it is sickening.
  22. Would the Mets sign Sabathia and try and move Johan and if so would Dye, Swisher and Vazquez fit their needs?
  23. What happens if they go over the salary cap? Is it a luxury tax thing that they pay into or are they unable to suit players up????? Sundin would put this team right near the top with the way Barker is playing right now.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 04:00 PM) For a fascinating trend...here's an NYT map breakdown by county of which areas of the country Senator McCain outperformed President Bush's 2004 numbers. Make your own assumptions about what drove this effect. Dueling banjos should play when that comes up.
  25. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 10:16 AM) Jesse Jr said last night he would not leave his current position. Jesse may get a cabinet job overseeing HUD.
