QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Jan 18, 2006 -> 09:38 AM) how will the questions be selected? Potentially a topic might be agreed upon by both posters. To keep the focus on debate and civility, I may assign the side of the debate. This takes the emphasis out of opinion and into style. Nothing like having Jim debate Kap on if Bush's policies are making America safer and Jim having yes and Kap no. I will also try and create a debate where each person is normally of the different opinion. Yes, I will try and stage some interesting matches, like Kobe and Shaq playing on Christmas Day.

I am putting together a single elimination contest called the Great Debate. Each participant will go head to head on three topics, one involving politics, one religion, and one catch-all, could be anything. Only those participants will be allowed to respond, and at the end of the debate which will consist of an opening, three intermediary posts, and a closing, soxtalk members will vote to determine the winner based on the substance and style of the debate. Not just if they agree with the position or not. If you would like to participate as a contestant, shoot me a PM. We will have it here in the filibuster. If you have any ideas on how to structure this, post them here. Basically poster A will be against poster B and best 2 out of three win and that poster moves on to round two, and so forth until we have a winner. Questions will be selected by me.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 17, 2006 -> 11:48 AM) whoa, the Sox got a Boras represented player to sign a contract. This is groundbreaking. There goes our chances of repeating. Signing a Boras client means we overpaid and now our hands are tied from making future deals.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 17, 2006 -> 11:16 PM) Now we're on the same page and thats the crux of my argument here. Im sick and tired of the left trying to lump in regular folks who are religous and church going with the likes of people like Robertson. As I am sick and tired of people trying to lump in regular liberal folks with the extremists.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 17, 2006 -> 10:52 PM) I see what you're driving at and we both know thats simply not the case. Try again. So the only fundementalists that are OK are Christian. Countries that are formed on traditional Muslim, Islamic, Buddhist, etc. are not OK?
-
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 17, 2006 -> 10:28 PM) ONCE AGAIN!!! Why do people who go to church, believe in God and traditional values have to be whackjobs?! Why?!?! Why?!?!?! Why?!?!?!? How do you say that in the Muslim, Hindu, Jewish, and Buddhist traditions?

It is rare that the electoral and popular votes don't coincide. What is funnier is when a party uses the electoral vote and try to make it appear as if their candidate was clearly more popular and had more support than he really did. To gauge how the American people felt as a whole, you need to look at the popular vote.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jan 17, 2006 -> 12:31 AM) I think I'd do whatever my partner felt to be the best. She's the one violated, ultimately it's her call. I'd just support her decision and love her no matter what. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ What he said.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 05:00 PM) If you dont vote then you automatically forfeit your right to dissent in my book. If you cant be bothered with taking the time out to choose whos calling the shots for you then you need to just shut your piehole and deal with what the result is. This tee shirt says it all. I knew that my vote for President absolutely would not matter. I knew that Kerry would receive 85% of the votes in my country and Bush would win the state. Yet, I still had a Bush yard sign displayed and went and pulled for Kerry after having my finger of Dubya's lever for about 10 seconds. Nothing like waiting until the last second to decide. But Nuke, I don't encourage people to vote. They should just let me decide. All this get out the vote stuff is nonsense. Y'all stay home and let me decide. You will be better off. I promise.

QUOTE(Colorado Sox Fan @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 08:35 PM) Talk about over analysis. Talk about a Masters in Baseball Education! Hang around here long enough and read carefully, separate the wheat from the chaff, the b.s. from the fertilizer, and you will know more about baseball than a fern bar full of Cub fans.

Did y'all know that we are the United STATES of America? Not the United Individuals of America. Our founding fathers saw this as the states getting together and electing someone to be President. Just thought I'd mention that. It seems so basic, but some people lost sight that we wanted power among the states. Each state was protected, in a fashion, from being taken over by another.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 01:58 PM) First was a Monkees Greatest Hits double album. It had to be about 1974 or 1975. Next up was a Chicago tape. I was from Chicago...so...well...I thought I had to have it. From there I got Chicago IX The Greatest Hits 1969-1974 and Foriegner Double Vision for Christmas one year. Then I was onto Ted Nugent Cat Scratch Fever and Aerosmith's Greatest Hits. Then I was off to the races and it all becomes a blur. But at sometime I got K-Tel's The Rock Album! How many of us here had this one? I have found it was possibly the most owned record ever printed, as it seems EVERYBODY in the 70's had it. I had all that vinyl, plus Fleetwood Mac Rumours, Hotel California, . . .

I'm not certain how much this really matters but I few years ago I took my Scout Troop out to West Texas where we had an unfortunate experience when one of my Scouts was taunted and harrassed about being Mexican-American. My Anglo Scouts jumped to this kids defense and handle it as best as they could. Later, as we were discussing it, I noticed that the anglo kids were far more upset than the Mexican-American kids. When I asked why, the Mexican-American kids replied, it happens so often, it isn't worth getting upset over ignorant idiots like them. So I asked; when it happens, you don't complain, you just suck it up and move on? Yes, Mr. Welton, or else we would walk around mad all day long. It made me mad and sad, and sensitive to the fact that not everyone complains, they each pick the hill they are willing to die on.
