2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2016 -> 09:18 AM) I would be OK if we got the same detail of look at the Clinton Foundation. Exactly. I would like to read the pros and cons of requiring full financial disclosure before running for office. Tax returns would be the start. Any privately held corporations of any stripe as well. I'm not certain what the downside would be, but I imagine there are, which is why I'd like to learn more.

2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 1, 2016 -> 02:21 AM) The part that was most interesting was how she hates the press, which confuses me since if you polled the press, 95 percent of them, maybe more will vote for her. That percentage actively wants her to win. 100% of the rich media owners will fund Trump's campaign, write editorials praising him, and work hard to assure that their reporters support the candidate that the owner's want. The WSJ, NY Post, National Review, Fox News, Forbes, NY Times editorial board, and every radio talk show host will campaign for Trump.

Robin Ventura sacrifice bunted with the 3 hitter in the 7th inning
QUOTE (Coach @ May 31, 2016 -> 01:31 PM) I simple cannot give Ventura a free pass. How many base running mistakes have there been over the years that Ventura refused to address? That's on him. But, that being said, the game absolutely falls on the players. A good manager can create a good culture. Look at the Royals. They never give up enen down 6 runs in the 9th. That attitude comes from the manager. If a manager will not hold the players accountable, then what good is having a manager in the first place. Any idiot can watch a game from the dugout. And you know this how? Because he doesn't go through the press and make this stuff public? It seems to me any decent manager learns to praise in public and reprimand in private. There are plenty of good reasons to fire Ventura, but keeping negativity out of the press shouldn't be one of them.

Robin Ventura sacrifice bunted with the 3 hitter in the 7th inning
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 31, 2016 -> 01:24 PM) Also, name one private-sector occupation where the complete failure of a team doesn't cost the manager his job? Why is it in baseball that many fail to hold the manager accountable and say "blame the players". When an entire team underperforms, the manager must be held responsible too. I'm just shocked that there are this many people willing to give Robin a free pass at this point. Complete failure of the team? How many private sector managers would be fired if their unit had a great first quarter then fell back and hit their annual budget? How corporate managers with multiple years tenure get fired over a five week stretch? Not many. Over a thirty year business career I can think of a lot more managers that survived this sort of "total failure". Most private sector companies do not overreact. Equating a sports team to a private sector job is a stretch. So I'm not using this as a way to defend Ventura, just pointing out the analogy isn't that great.

Why do coaches and managers become so stupid?
Obviously almost anyone here could manage as well as every Sox manager we've had. Same goes for every other sport. What happens when someone is named head coach or manager? Do they try to hard to be unique and forget basic fundamentals, stats, and sound strategy?

5/31/16 Game Thread: White Sox @ Mets
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 31, 2016 -> 02:53 PM) It is all perspective. If they were sitting two games out on May 31 without the 23-10 start, and without the 4- whatever streak on the other end, most people would be thrilled. The falloff from one extreme to the other is what is killing people. As of today, we are on a pace for about 84 wins, which really is really close to about what most people thought they would do for the whole season. The mode prediction was 86-87 wins. A win today changes that projection back to 86 wins. The irony is if you had switched the cold streak and hot streaks around, this place would be going crazy with optimism right now. The reality that a team is never as good as its hot streaks, and never as bad as its cold streaks. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ May 31, 2016 -> 02:56 PM) This is without even the slightest bit of context, though. Fact of the matter is, this team has blown 5 games in the last 3 weeks that they should have won & have won 4 games in their last (20?). Obviously they aren't this bad but to operate under that mindset w/o any sort of context doesn't make much sense to me. But those are the stats. It really is meaningless when the wins occurred or in what order.

Credit Scores
QUOTE (joemg311 @ May 31, 2016 -> 02:45 PM) I have never hear of that before. I don't think a lender can tell you whom you can use for a cosigner, they can just tell you if you are approved or not. On demanding a spouse as a cosigner, the only situation I could see that happening is if you are married and your spouse has good credit and or a nice granishable long term employement, and you just flat out refuse to give them your wifes information or say she won't cosign. A lender might get scared off that your wife will not be part of a loan, but If you do not have a spouse, or they have bad credit, a sibling or parent is the best possible cosigner. Who would it benefit if they can't tell you exactly under what circumstances they would extend the credit?

On June 1 they will be over .500 and within a decent streak of being in first. My GOD how they suck.

Credit Scores
It's all about getting repaid. They also are looking for someone that will kick your ass to get the loan paid.

Robin Ventura sacrifice bunted with the 3 hitter in the 7th inning
QUOTE (JoshPR @ May 30, 2016 -> 03:03 PM) Would love to see what half the people here can do managing. Monday morning quarterbacking is easy You don't have to have a manager. Just have a laptop in the dugout and follow the stats.

Company Pot Luck Luncheons
I really, really, dislike pot luck lunches. We have a big, spread out department and no one really knows everyone. They are awkward and I don't really trust the cooking that was brought here 5 hours ago. If I die it is the potato salad.

Sale with "vote of confidence" for Ventura
Managers receive too much blame and too much credit. Every year about 30 managers deserve to be fired.

QUOTE (shipps @ May 27, 2016 -> 11:44 AM) Thats fair. I guess its just that I can see my Aunt and Uncle having that same mentality and they do not live on a military base. A lot of my opinions of Texas are based off of my family who lilves in the Austin area and what I see on social media and foxnews with most of it not being good. But I digress, I dont want to take make this buster material. Reverse that for California, Illinois, New York, and Florida for me based on what is reported. States have an identity issue as well. That's why they spend money on marketing.

Coaches Corner
For the high school coaches, what else do you teach? I have this year 3 sections of English 4 AP and 2 sections of English 3 and of course 1 section of Golf. I missed 55 days this past year at golf tournaments and golf related events. It's tough doing both. But for my AP students it is a great preview of college courses where you see the teacher only a couple times per week.

Parents Stuck With Their Kids
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 27, 2016 -> 04:23 PM) I worked 30 hours a week on top of 10 hours of grad school. Many people do tbat. And you're over estimating how many people work this mythical 70-80 hour work week happily. For starters, no employer is paying that much overtime True and False. False, people are working those hours. True employers are not paying overtime. They put the employees on salary so they do not have to pay the overtime, yet they know the person will put in those hours to keep their jobs.
