I haven't watched 60 minutes in decades but as soon as I heard the news my mind was filled with stories he did. A real piece of America.

The biggest donors don't worry too much about the coaches, they spend their influence with the AD and university presidents. The large donors talk to the coaches. The $5,000 donors are the jock sniffers.

Being an out of market watcher I seem to get the opposing team 90% of the time. I don't care who is broadcasting for the Sox, I prefer it to the opposition announcers. Then it is a steady diet of information about the team I have only a passing interest in. It doesn't matter how good of an announcing team it is.

QUOTE (farmteam @ May 19, 2016 -> 07:30 PM) Anyone ever done an out of state move with a moving company before? I want to have someone move my stuff to the Chicago area in early June, store it, then move it into the City when I get the keys to my new place July 1. I've just begun looking but not even sure where to start. Get a Minneapolis company to do the first leg? Get a Chicago company to come up here and grab it? I'm leaning toward the latter because then it's more likely they could store it for me then move it into the City. I'd rather just deal with one company. It's all about how much you are willing to pay. You may consider a rental truck that you keep for three weeks, thus storing your stuff instead of loading, unloading, loading, unloading. We did our own packing then had movers come and load and unload. We saved a couple thousands dollars but more important to us is we knew the packing was done right.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 19, 2016 -> 04:35 PM) Is Ozzie still being paid by Marlins? He belongs in a MLB dugout as a bench coach or manager. How bout Fredi Gonzalez who everybody thought was so great? Fired. Ozzie has baseball in his blood. Once Marlins stop paying him he can join a team in some capacity. We know Ozzie loves money. Greg, you have be sitting there smiling thinking wow, someone will take this seriously. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 19, 2016 -> 11:59 PM) Even after reading this? Hillary turns to her husband to run the economy. Even the staunchest Hillary supporters must realize she has shown a great weakness in making her husband in charge of such an important part of a president's workload. Please tell me you support her after this bombshell. https://www.yahoo.com/news/the-argument-cli...6289370166.html The economy was pretty damn good while he was President. Naming potential cabinet appointees and top advisers does the public a great service. It allows the voters a greater glimpse into what that candidate's administration would look like. I appreciate that transparency. Now, what do you think Trump could have his spouse do?

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 18, 2016 -> 08:34 PM) I was going to ask before this inning if this was the inning Latos gives up no runs or a bunch and gets knocked out but yet again he gives up one run. Sox need to not wait til the 7th inning to get some runs before they are too far behind. A post in search of a thread . . .

QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ May 19, 2016 -> 02:43 PM) I said "even if he's a criminal" meaning "even if he comes back and is put on trial and convicted," I wasn't straight out calling him a criminal. "even if he's a criminal" means after he is put on trial? How would you straight out call him a criminal?
-
QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ May 19, 2016 -> 02:36 PM) Huh? Of course it is. How would you deduce that from what I said? Then how could you have been against securing his release? At the time the negotiations were taking place he was not a criminal.
-
QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ May 17, 2016 -> 06:52 PM) i didn't like the Bergdahl thing either. I didn't really freak out about it, I just didn't understand the logic. I get it, he's an American life even if he's a criminal, and I get that the Israelis do the same thing, but I felt like a sports fan questioning if his GM gave up too much. I guess innocent until proven guilty isn't a thing in the military. I prefer the exchange then a trial, if necessary. If we start deciding who to try and save based on anything less than a legal, fair, trial, I believe we take a giant step backwards and leave soldiers at risk.

QUOTE (bmags @ May 19, 2016 -> 11:12 AM) Before Brendan Sodikoff ruined it, I used to go to california clipper that has a regular band. Occasionally go to empty bottle on fridays when they have the hoyle brothers playing every week. Not many places in Chicago just have music like that. Almost all are venues. Carols also comes to mind but that's just kind of a fun dive. I was blessed living so close to South Padre Island where every other bar has live music. Now that I am in San Antonio it takes more work to find these places.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 19, 2016 -> 10:04 AM) NO Presidential election has ever seen higher negative ratings than this one. http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2016/05/19/f...ember/?mod=e2fb Right after this election we need to have a national discussion on how we can reward better candidates.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 18, 2016 -> 02:54 PM) Planning is great and all unless something bad happens. I am going to have a heart attack at some point, so should I load up on life insurance and spend money now or save a ton of money to retire even though I may not make it there. Delicate balance. Most people don't make the choice. They just do whatever without much thought. If I realized $5,000 saved in my 20s was one less year to work, I may have managed things differently. But I just kind of followed the path of least resistance. Put a little in an IRA.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 19, 2016 -> 12:48 PM) You can master's out but I just completed my first year. I just wanted to pound away some debts and save some money before coming back. I took a huge paycut coming back to school (obviously) and I don't think I was prepared for it. I absolutely want to finish my degree but I also can't focus if I'm worried about how I am going to pay for s***. That is the biggest barrier for most people. FlaSoxxJim once mentioned that if his PhD program allowed him to master's out he would have. They didn't, so he stuck it out and was happy he did.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Apr 3, 2015 -> 02:06 AM) I got into a Ph.D program with s***ty test scores. I am ready to spend the next 5-6 years of my life in absolute poverty. Congrats. I am expecting my acceptance soon. Whether or not to accept is still up in the air. Do you have your masters? Does the program allow you to earn a masters along the way?

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 19, 2016 -> 11:14 AM) Can a PhD student take a sabbatical? Yes, but be careful. The world is full of ABDs, all but dissertation.

Guillen became Sox manager while "blackout drunk"

It was mentioned repeatedly that his erratic behavior was probably the result of being an alcoholic. -
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 19, 2016 -> 09:43 AM) As much as I'd like to get another masher to complement Abreu and Fraz, I think getting a pitcher is a bigger need at the moment. While an upgrade is an upgrade anywhere in the lineup, I agree. Not only at the moment but looking to September and October.

How many folks here have a regular place they go to hear live music? No cover, just a regular restaurant, bar kind of place. Not "shows" or "events" just a singer, small band, type of place.

http://saturdayblitz.com/2016/05/03/nfl-ri...s-shawn-oakman/ Things are changing. And if you look at this in terms of colleges covering up crimes on campus, not just as an athletic problem. the changes are coming rapidly. And sports are driving the changes now after decades of lagging behind. High profile athletes are losing their jobs, suspension, and other disciplinary measures for off field troubles. Yes, there are horrible examples, and this is coming too late and too slow for some, but sports in general are doing more in this area than any other industry.
-
Colleges have been under reporting crimes for centuries. Athletes are just one group that has benefited. It took the Clery Act in 1990 to force universities to start reporting. Eastern Michigan has received the highest fine to date for an act that no one talks about. Why is Penn State talked about more? Because athletics are involved. So perhaps claiming that athletes are singled out for being covered up for may not be accurate. It is far easier for universities to cover up crimes not involving athletics because people do not care enough about low profile students. Universities want parents and prospective students to believe their campus is safe. Marketing puts the best face on that as they can. High profile cases are hardest to cover up. Athletics may actually do more to uncover these acts than to cover them.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 18, 2016 -> 01:28 PM) Damn you tex...I am an undershirt guy too. Uggh......in all seriousness, these look nice...might have to give them a try. When you say they make such a difference, can you provide a little more color on that. Is it more just these ensure the proper fit (an issue I have with some brands of undershirts). Long tails that stay tucked in. No extra bulk. Flat comfortable seems. Great fabric that wears like iron. Butter soft. AND my favorite feature, the vee necks are deep enough that they do not show with a couple buttons unbuttoned. I hate wearing a polo and seeing a undershirt. These hide well. Same with an oxford shirt. But I am damn cheap with underwear and socks. Now I am a believer.
