    OJ Guilty!!!

QUOTE (juddling @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 10:36 AM) I wouldn't exactly call this a make-up call.....that would be if he got pulled over for speeding and got thrown away for years. From what i read...it was a very strong case they had against them and he would have been found guilty without his previous courtroom experience. Though I'm sure that is what will be argued during his appeal. True, I didn't want to imply he was even possibly innocent. This one looked pretty obvious.
  3. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 10:22 AM) But reimbursements are only not taxable if the expense is tax deductible. Correct, and only to the limits allowed, above that again, they would be taxable. An example would be a car. You could, as an owner, agree to reimburse $3.00 per mile for a car. Anything above the allowable limit would be income.
  4. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 09:03 AM) If they are reimbursements, doesn't that imply that they are paying them back for money they spent? That would not be taxable then. Right. And the state should not be paying for the travel of her spouse and children unless they had some official function. Her travel is a legitimate business expense, her family's is not. Any of your employees could submit receipts for any expense and you could reimburse them, that doesn't make those expenses tax free. For example, you have to send someone to a training conference (legit business expense). He mentions his wife had family in the area who they have not seen in years, and you, being the compassionate conservative, tell him to take the whole family and give you the receipts. The babies travel is not deductible and the income is taxable to him. If not, think about all the income we could shield from taxes. Cut my salary $3,000 but let me submit vacation costs.
  5. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 12:03 AM) Have you not seen Pujols's stats this year? If stats were the only criteria, there would be no need to vote. A formula could be produced that ranks various statistical category and a computer could figure the winner. There is a great deal of intangibles involved in determining "valuable" and that is what makes the award special. The intangibles that go into becoming more valuable than your stats.
  6. And Danks did this without Broadway and Logan in the clubhouse cheering him on, all the more impressive.
  7. I'm certain Buehrle misses having Broadway around. To me it seems like a distraction having some AAAA guys hanging around like some fan-boys. If they ain't on the roster, they are taking up space and breathing oxygen that they didn't earn. If 40,000 fans aren't enough, and they really need Logan for support, the team is really f***ed. Come on, dammit, we really need those guys close by, in the clubhouse on the couch, they aren't helping at home on a couch. GMAFB

    Drinking Thread

Different than the "I'm drunk" thread. All things drinking. To kick it off, I was just in Austin and dropped by 6th Street to feel old, and man I did at times. But, it still ranks as my favorite spot to hang out. Rooftop bars, more live bands than you can count, including multiple bands in the same bar. No covers, $2 drinks almost everywhere. Great street vibe. Great atmosphere.
  9. I think y'all missed this part in the report. Her family member's travel would be taxable income if paid by the company. Been there, done that, have the audit results.

    OJ Guilty!!!

I believe this is called the "make up call". I like the symbolism of it coming on the Anniversary of the blown call. What will OJ be hearing in prison? Autograph this . . . I'm gonna get me some juice for dinner . . . We're gonna run this play up the middle . . . Now you're a wideout . . .
  11. Welcome to Soxtalk's What Not To Wear Edition
  12. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 02:56 PM) Yeah, what's with the cowbells. You are in a dome as it is, you can't make enough noise by yelling? The ONLY cool thing about that was it came directly out of one of the greatest SNL skits.
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 11:16 AM) I hate socks. I wear sandals everywhere until my toes freeze. Same here. Unless there is snow on the ground, I'm in Teva Dozers or Cobian Flip Flops.
  14. Because his personality demands it. He's the classic guy you want on your team and boo when he ain't.
  15. QUOTE (Soxy @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 08:44 AM) When I see undergrads walking around just wearing leggings and I think--no! they aren't pants! you need to wear pants! pants are not an option! leggings they aren't pants. Does your campus have a no shorts policy?
  16. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 11:03 AM) When I shop for clothes and I have to ask myself: "Am I too old to wear that"? I dated a woman who said that men should never wear gym shoes as casual shoes nor wear a team jersey. She said that's one way to tell the difference between men and boys. Hmm, I agree on the team jersey for most of the time and places. I disagree on the shoes. I wear Sperry Top-siders all the time. Wearing almost anything else that is "closed toed" with shorts looks stupid.
  17. QUOTE (Soxy @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 10:17 AM) And I'm pissed that marriage is even regulated at all by the government. Marriage is a religious idea--civil unions are the legal idea. Let's leave marriage to the church. That probably should have been better vetted 225 years ago when the whole what is marriage in the US started. And Churches really do not regulate marriages. You can get married with or without a religious entity involved. Atheists are married all the time in this country. I do not think it is right to take away marriage from those people who are not religious and offer them the only option of some newly created PC version of what their parents and grandparents had.
  18. I am stunned and so very sad for Cub fans everywhere. They are clearly the best team in baseball and to lose like that, is just terrible. In their honor, I will use blue to denote sarcasm while they are still mathematically alive in the playoffs.
  19. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 09:12 AM) a couple of times, but for some reason I use the '84 olmpics as a point of reference, I was 5 when it happened and it's some of my first vivid memories. I remember Mary Lou Retton (sp?) and the big deal made over her, so when I went on a date with a girl who wasn't even born in '84, I felt super old. If you are on a date and the topic of female gymnastics comes up, you should feel young
  20. Obviously a WS series win game is at the top for most of us. I'm just now trying to get my head around that final half week. I have to say, it may be the second or third most exciting week in my lifetime of watching the Sox. Certainly it was the most exciting close of the regular season. The only thing better would have been charging from behind to catch and pass.
  21. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 08:40 AM) I want an all-Cuba team. Also, I want all of Javy Vazquez in Cuba. LOL I was just going to post, I wish Javy would defect to Cuba.
  22. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 09:29 AM) it likely has something to do with logistics. A MLB series has a lot of things that have to go into it, so they probably have to book rooms, flights, etc. a week or two in advance. I imagine a series prior they reserve rooms in every possible city and just eat a deposit for the city that doesn't make it. If you left it to best record it could be determined on the last day. It's probably an old system that with technology they don't need anymore, but that is my guess on why they started it. That is a good point, but I wonder how many of those scenarios were that close? The stadiums that were possibilities were all ready "in case" this would just mean a few more stadiums may have to be ready. Look at the Twins, they were ready to fly to Chicago or St. Petersburg.
  23. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 09:32 AM) I don't think there's anything wrong with having Javy as 4 or 5. He will eat innings and, during the regular season, give you at least a 50/50 shot at winning. He costs a lot of money, but the Sox are a big payroll team and it's a done deal anyway, so try and get some value out of it As a fifth starter in a five man rotation he would have been pitching on regular rest and possible not starting a playoff game. I'd like that situation.
  24. I don't think Kenny worries about trades already made. He makes new decisions based on what the current situation is. If the decision doesn't work out, he analyzes what could have been done different, if anything, and how to avoid the same mistake down the road, then moves on.
  25. QUOTE (Rooftop Shots @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 09:48 PM) When I talk of a cartoon I saw as a kid that had REALTALKING lips inserted into the face of the cartoon character, and I was looked at like..........H-UH???????? What the heck are you talking about. (By the way, the cartoon was called Clutch Kargo). Don't forget Paddlefoot and Spinner, that was a cool cartoon.
