  1. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 12:22 AM) Was he the guy that tried out for the White Sox in 2003? I forgot. Gil Heredia
  2. QUOTE(hi8is @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 01:41 AM) i didnt know we had signed Wilton Alvaro Guerrero And this pops up out of nowhere
  3. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 01:07 AM) I wonder where you got that idea from. :rolly I HAVE NO IDEA
  4. Kind of tough luck for LaRussa...he's managed for 26 years, has had 10 postseason appearances, yet, only 1 ring. Really hard to believe. It's also hard to imagine the fact that he's 60 years old and he's already managed for 26 years. That's incredible. ...on a different note, for as much s*** as I've given Ozzie...does anyone see a little LaRussa in Oz?
  5. QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 09:36 PM) MJ was a great role model. If you want a kid addicted to gambling. Jordan was a horrible role model. Arguably the best basketball player of all time, but he was not a good role model.
  6. I think from the outset, you look at their rotation, and try to understand how it really is. In reality, it's not better and no worse than the Sox rotation...but I'll take the Sox rotation, simply due to having 4 very solid starters, over 3 very solid starters and then Backe who can be inconsistent. My #1 key to the series is keeping the Astros lineup in the ballpark. You allow, at most, one homer per game, and I think I like the Sox chances. If I had another key...STAY (relatively) PATIENT...make Oswalt and Clemens work, wear them down as much as possible, try and either get to the pen early or try and have Oswalt and Clemens get in the 120-130 pitch range. That many more pitches makes them fatigue that much faster in their next start. And most definately keep the pressure on the defense at all times. Run often, sac bunt often, keep the clutch hitting up...do not relent whatsoever. Just stay hot. If you want a prediction...I say Sox in 6.
  7. Yeah I saw it. Thought it was kind of odd. I'm a little superstitious...but for mega voodoo superstitions out there, I'd purely assume it's a good omen...talking about how the "Curse of Shoeless Joe" will be lifted. I'm not superstitious enough to go by omens and such...the Sox keep playing like they've been playing, they'll win it.
  8. QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 02:14 PM) To quote an earlier thread and topic on this subject... "Is death an option?" I know I said that about Yanks/Sawx winning the AL East...I hate both of those teams so much. Other than the Sox getting to the Series, both of those 2 being defeated in the ALDS was the happiest moment of this postseason for me. As for the topic at hand...I'd probably agree with Los. I want the Sox to get the first Series in Chicago since 1917...I would root my ass off against the Cubs if they were in our situation right now. As for Minnesota...good fans, good team, great organization up and down...once the Sox/Twins have been eliminated, I usually root for them, unless they're playing the Sox. Probably a hard decision all in all...if we are assuming the Sox win it this year, I root for the Cubs, because it would be great for the city of Chicago to have back-to-back World Series champions, both teams ending incredibly long droughts. If we are assuming they lose, and the World Series next year is Cubs-Twins, I root Twins every second of every day.
  9. QUOTE(Wedge @ Oct 18, 2005 -> 08:05 PM) I think that one of the biggest reasons STL got swept last year was because they could not properly order their rotation for the WS, while BOS was lucky, since the order it pitched in the ALCS was exactly the one they wanted for the WS. I've heard Steve Stone and I've heard Bob Brenly say that it is a huge advantage to be able to set your rotation. The Sox have proved that twice already in the playoffs thus far.
  10. QUOTE(mkalk @ Oct 18, 2005 -> 04:53 PM) The game could go to Thursday. They get today off. I was thinking today was Monday for some reason. Thank you. The point still holds true, atleast it very well could/should...at the very least, we'll get Pettitte, Clemens, and Oswalt 5 times at the very least, and we'd still have to face Carpenter twice. I like our chances against either team...but I'd honestly prefer Houston, just because their offense is pretty much homer or bust...you keep them in the yard, and they are beatable. St. Louis on the other hand has versatility offensively...atleast more than Houston...and I happen to think their bullpen is better than Houston's. What could be fun is that it could set up a potential Mulder-Buehrle matchup, if St. Louis wins the next 2 and Ozzie goes with Buehrle in game 2...unless of course, LaRussa goes with Suppan in game 2.
  11. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Oct 18, 2005 -> 04:20 PM) I'd think Felix Hernandez would get on it, too. Young, but still. For s***s and giggles, taking that into consideration...I threw together a little prelimnary Venezuelan starting lineup and bullpen out. Mora - 3B Vizquel - SS Abreu - CF Cabrera - RF Martinez - C Ordonez - LF Guillen - 2B(not sure where else to put Carlos...you almost have to have him and Vizquel in the lineup) R.Hernandez - DH(if it is used...not sure if it is) Alfonzo - 1B Santana C. Zambrano Garcia F.Hernandez Alvarez/V.Zambrano/some other wildcard KRod J.Rincon Urbina Zambrano/Alvarez plus like 20 other Venezuelan relievers in the majors that are solid...manager's choice/player's want basically. Team Dominican Republic will undoubtedly be the deepest team talent wise...but I like Team Venezuela just as much.
  12. AGHHHHHH Which one do I use? The last one is awesome...but so is the second to last. #@$*&@#%&!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 18, 2005 -> 03:10 PM) I love seeing the reaction of other teams regarding their "next year" plans. No other team is as classic talking about next year as the Chicago Cubs. I was curious to see what their master plans were in overhauling their team next year to try and make up for the fanbase that they lost with the Sox in the Series. Below are some examples. SS-Furcal 8mil CF-Jaque Jones 4.5 mil 1b-Lee 8mill RF-Giles 9mil 3b-Aramis 10.5mil 2b-Nomar 5mil LF-Murton .8mil C-Barret 4.5mil That comes to 49 mil say i am off a bit,no more than 52mil Bench Cedeno .5mil Blanco 1.2mil Hairston 1.5 Perez 1.5 Dave Roberts 1mill Grieve .8mil 6.5 and if im off a bit 8 mil Starting Pitching Wood 11mil Maddux 9mil ZZZZZ 6 mil Prior 4mil AJ Burnnet 8mil 38 mil RPitching S.Williamson 2mil J.williams .5mil Todd Jones 3.5mil Novoa .5 mil B.J. Ryan 3 mil Demster 5mil 14 mil if im a bit off 15 mil _______________________________________________________ CF Lofton/Hairston(give old guy rest) 2B Marcus Giles 1B Derrick Lee RF Brian Giles 3B Aramis Ramirez SS Nomar Garciaparra/Cedeno(for if nomar goes down/rest) LF Matt Murton C Michael Barret P Carlos Zambrono P Mark Prior P Kerry Wood P Kevin Millwood P Greg Maddux CL Ryan Dempster LOL, the odds of the Cubs signing Rafael Furcal to an $8 mill deal are slim to none, because he's looking at probably $10 mill a year atleast...and the odds of them signing Furcal and then having Marcus Giles appear out of nowhere and starting are even slimmer. And there is no way Burnett settles fo $8 mill. Not when Detroit's probably willing to throw something like 4 years, $44 mill at the very least.
  14. QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 18, 2005 -> 07:21 AM) This Cubbie troll at my job says THIS, and is dead serious when he says it: "I wouldn't trade Kerry Wood for Albert Pujols because.................." ( I have to break in here to repeat that he is DEAD SERIOUS when he says this, and he has told me this on at least 10 occasions - enjoy the irony, let's continue: ) ".........PUJOLS GETS HURT ALL THE TIME!!!!!!" Ahhhhhhhh, the mindless bliss of the Cubbie Junkie!!!! What I find funny about it is that Wood had atleast 2 DL stints that I can recall off the top of my head this past season...almost positive about that. Pujols missed 1 game. So Wood DL stints > Pujols's missed games
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 18, 2005 -> 02:31 PM) AJ bats 5th against any right handed pitchers. Rowand bats 5th against Lefties. Crede starts hitting cleanup after his 9th home run of the series. Agreed for the most part, though with how bad Rowand has looked in the thus far, I'm not sure I want him hitting any higher than 6th. I'd say just make it Pods-Gooch-Dye-PK-AJP-Rowand-Crede-Uribe-P against both LHP and RHP(even though AJP did have a .627 OPS against LHP this year...with 0 walks...how do you have about 90 PAs and have 0 walks?)
  16. The series will end by Wednesday, meaning they'll get 2 full days of rest before game 1. I want the series to end...because either way, we'll be facing Carpenter in game 1, or we'll be facing Oswalt, Pettitte, and Clemens 6 times. There's no way around it really.
  17. Do not count out Venezuela. Off the very tiptop of my head, I can think of Freddy, Miguel Cabrera, Maggs, Johan...and I'm probably just scraping the top off the iceberg with those 4.
  18. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 18, 2005 -> 01:56 AM) Atlanta's gotta do what they can to keep him there. Am I right in saying he's more important than Bobby Cox in the whole scheme of things? Probably None of these atleast teams win without their pitching staffs in their 14 year run...even the 2003 team with all that offense still probably doesn't win. The three headed monster of Cox, Mazzone, and Scheurholz is the reason Atlanta continues to do so well. Well, and the players too
  19. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 06:45 PM) Better him than Coop. I disagree. Mazzone's one of the greatest pitching coaches ever, and what he can do with pitchers is amazing. The Yankees get him, along with a $225+ mill payroll...they might not lose a game all year with the pitching staff they should have. Personally...I don't want either Cooper or Mazzone wearing a different uniform next year.
  20. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 18, 2005 -> 12:25 AM) He is a smart guy when it comes to baseball but I cant stand his voice at all its so annoying. Probably a bit of nerves, I'd guess. I think Piniella would do well once he adjusted to the role. I really did like him in the booth...seemed like Steve Stone was up there for a little bit, just knowing what to do an when to do it.
  21. Lidge threw the fattest pitch he's thrown in the postseason at the wrong time to the wrong person. One f***up can cost your team a game, a series, a chance at a World Series, with you perhaps forever going into lore being not known for how filthy your stuff was and how good you were, but for making one bad pitch. ONE. How cruel this game? Succeed about 99% of the time, and the 1% can cost you huge if you do it at the wrong time.
  22. QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 02:26 AM) The tears of past fathers and sons in heaven , tears over past failures, have fallen upon us all evening. The rain is all but gone now. "4 more , 4 more , 4 more " and it will be gone forever. This line gave me goosebumps just invisioning it. Hell of a post. Sox fans have been waiting 88 years for this...I don't know what would happen if I had to wait 3 more weeks.
  23. QUOTE(daa84 @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 11:33 PM) who do they leave off? marte? vizcaino? only real lefthanded threats in their lineup are berkman (who is way better as lefthanded hitter) and tavares. what do you guys think? JINX! Walker and Edmonds are solid as hell. Mabry and Rodriguez are decent, and Nunez is a switch hitter if he comes back to play in the World Series, if the Cards were to make it. Either way...I leave Marte off. No way to I want El Full Counte pitching in a big game.
  24. QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 01:39 AM) eh. f*** her and her 3rd place team. eat it, Twinkie b****.
  25. QUOTE(whitesoxgt @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 10:50 AM) dats what ive been trying to say all year long, but no one listened to me. everybody kept saying that Pods was gonna be with the Sox for many years 2 come. dont get me wrong that would be awesome, but someone like Jerry Owens shouldn't be in the Minors he would be great to have in the clubhouse next year. Sox should get rid of Carl Everett, Geof Blum, Willie Harris. Jerry Owens should take one of those spots, Dont forget bout Brian Anderson. :-D If Brian Anderson and Jerry Owens are starting in the OF for the Chicago White Sox next year, they're in deep, deep s***. Or ARod better be at SS.
