  1. When examining ZR and RF as to which works best, you will find that both have their flaws. There is no stat out there right now that will accurately measure how good a players range is defensively. ZR has its flaws due to it not being able to correctly distinguish range, just how well players field balls hit in their zone. RF would be perfect if everything were neutral - neutral hitters, neutral stadiums, neutral GO/FO, FO/K, and K/GO...but that will NEVER happen. So you will see a very good defensive SS who will have a bad range factor on a flyball-strikeout staff, while seeing a very poor defensive SS with a good range factor on a very heavy sinkerball staff. As it is, I would say that zone rating is better for judging a player's range if you were to just use one...but that is incorrect too, due to its flaws. Personally, I prefer to use both zone rating and range factor cohesively to determine how good a player is defensively...ie, Miguel Tejada, who is in the top 5 for both, proves he is a gold glove caliber SS. JMHO though
  2. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 10, 2005 -> 05:30 PM) At first I had no idea what you were talking about, but googling it brought back crazy memories of that. Yesssss Saving the Aniverse from Toads. Awesome. Lucky for me I found a copy on eBay a couple years back. I lent my first copy to a kid, and he never gave it back. I
  3. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 10, 2005 -> 06:35 PM) Apparently Crede has soreness in his back. He blows anyway. I still have my Eric Chavez voodoo shrine going. If I keep praying and chanting maybe he will come. Not with the A's above .500 I still think they are going to win the division...the Angels are not incredibly strong, and the Rangers pitching staff will almost always falter in the August heat.
  4. I can't believe people are actually suggesting that Ozuna is better than Willie. He can't draw a walk, he can't hit the ball to the wall, he doesn't have the speed Willie does, nor the range everywhere. There is a reason this guy is 30 and has not even been close to seeing the majors in a few years. He is a decent ballplayer...gets a few hits when you need him to, plays decent D, and has decent speed - all great aspects for a good backup player. Willie, on the other hand, is streaky, but gets much more hits, has a little bit of power, has better speed, can draw a walk, and plays outstanding defense at 2B. I can almost guarantee that Willie Harris is a starter somewhere at some point in his career. Scouts, GMs, and coaches will be too intriguied by his defense, speed, and plate abilities to deny him the chance.
  5. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jul 10, 2005 -> 05:35 PM) Not like he's hit any singles today or anything... Rob Deer never singled either?
  6. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 10, 2005 -> 05:35 PM) Frank is a HOF. It pisses me off to see people comparing him to third rate talent... Frank at his current talent level is not a Hall of Famer
  7. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 10, 2005 -> 05:31 PM) HOW DARE YOU! THE GREATEST PLAYER IN THE HISTORY OF THE ORGANIZATION!!!! I WISH YOU WOULD SAY THAT TO HIS FACE AND HE'D PINCH YOUR HEAD OFF!!!! 9. QUOTE(Jimenez4MVP @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 10:59 PM) um are you joking.. you guys need to stop using the "I thought the Sox would be good" theres no way anyone thought the Sox would be 30 games over and the best team in baseball.. I actually told Knightni in like Feb that I thought the Sox were gonna be awesome...like really awesome Not sure he remembers, but I did
  10. Just wondering... I saw that Jenks pitched...how'd he look?
  11. QUOTE(Fotop @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 07:13 PM) Mariners it is. And wite, if you want Bloomquist...it's gonna cost ya. EDIT: Btw, my AIM = Styxmaster. I would trade you Timo, but Bloom >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>(few million more of these)>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Timo
  12. Dear Fotop, Be the Mariners. Trade me Bloomquist. Sincerely, wite
  13. QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 02:25 AM) Wite, for your birthday, I will make you a new sig if you want one. Just name it. I am thinking Pods-Rowand-Dye...and then some catchy slogan on top. Maybe Pods stealing a base, Rowand in the field(catching a ball preferably), and Dye hitting
  14. Thx all, hope it turns out for the best. (have yet to buy anything yet, but that will change tomorrow )
  15. Contreras, please don't suck ass on my birthday. Please.
  16. QUOTE(wsox08 @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 01:32 AM) Do you really think you can argue this when you aren't in the clubhouse and dugouts with the teams? Are you trying to argue that the Sox offense has looked worse/been worse since Frank came back? Because you'd be arguing a losing cause. You can visually SEE in their eyes the amount of confidence and how much better they feel, knowing that they have Thomas back. Konerko got hot, Dye got hot(and is still hot), Uribe hit better for 2 weeks, Rowand started to hit better...is that all just a coincidence that those all ocurred right around when Frank came back? Since Frank has come back, the power numbers have increased dramatically, the Sox finally had a bat-around, and they scored 10 runs in an inning, among other things my tired mind does not want to look up. Adding Thomas to the lineup was essentially a second wind to the team. I have little doubt in my mind that without adding Thomas's bat in late May/early June, the Sox are worse record wise than 56-26 right now. So, ya, I really think I can argue that.
  17. QUOTE(wsox08 @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 12:47 AM) I was just gonna say calling Frank vs. Vlad a draw is crazy... First of all, Vlad plays the field and has a gun in right... He can steal and is an all around great player.. No offense to Frank, but he is getting older and doesn't have that "superspeed" anymore, haha How are Frank and Vlad not a draw? We're not comparing their importance to the team concept here, we're comparing how much they affect offenses. Thomas has out OPS'ed Vlad this season...in a quarter of the at-bats. His AB/HR ratio of just over 7 is pretty incredible for a guy who had not played in the majors in about a month, and due to that ratio, he is only 6 homers behind Vlad...in a quarter of the at-bats. And having that main cog in the middle of the lineup that you know will put up solid numbers for you is very relieving, and you have seen it, with the Sox offense increasing their output since Frank got back...that also has something to due with warmer weather to. Offensively, they both mean the exact same amount to their teams...both statistically and psychologically.
  18. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 12:41 PM) I think we can get it down, we have Carl, Pauly,Frank,Timo and Shingo all coming off the books next year. Losing that much offense makes so much sense too. I sense Carl and Paully gone. I sense Frank is a Sox player his entire career.
  19. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 07:28 AM) I'm just glad that i'm on good standing to say.... I TOLD YA SO! SORRY BUT KNOWING THE TRUTH ABOUT RJ "TOO OLD" JOHNSON BACK IN DECEMBER AND NO ONE ELSE WOULD ADMIT IT. And to think almost everything besides me wanted to morgage our entire season on picking up Johnson, thus leaving us with a 3 man rotation at best along with no AJ, Iguchi, Dye, Herminson. Yeah such as good idea... HAHA! This is why i'm so glad that loser turned down a trade here... HAHA! Since we signed Dye and Hermanson before the RJ talks even came up Since, at the very least, we would have had a rotation of RJ, Garcia, Buehrle, Contreras Since when do you know exactly that RJ would have put up these exact numbers in a White Sox uniform? Whose to say whether the pressure of playing in New York has or hasn't gotten to him? You can't prove, honestly and truthfully, that RJ would not be 10-2 2.50 1.00 WHIP right now for the White Sox. I can't prove that he's not 7-6 4.24 either. Get the f*** over it. BE f***ING HAPPY THAT THE TEAM IS PLAYING THE WAY THEY ARE AND THAT THEY ARE THE BEST TEAM IN THE MAJORS, AND QUIT DWELLING ON THE PAST.
  20. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 02:14 AM) This season; Schmidt - BAA - .275, AWAY - 5.88 ERA, 26 K's, 19 BB's, .311 BAA Contreras - BAA - .225, HOME (used because US Cell is a hitters park unlike SBC) - 4.50 ERA, 38 K's, 23 BB's, .243 BAA. And BMac and Duque make much less than him too. That has to be taken into consideration.
  21. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 08:18 PM) Carlos lee and mccarthy ( after the season he had) >>> charles thomas, juan cruz, and dan meyer. Carlos Lee > Hudson financially No doubt whatsoever that the talent in the White Sox package would have been enough to get Hudson. Hell, it would have been enough to get Hudson and then either a reliever or a decent prospect too.
  22. QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 09:57 PM) Did you belive the omar vizquel signing was going to happen. Since Omar Vizquel thought it was going to happen, I think a lot of people did.
  23. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 02:46 AM) The part about Schmidt is a definite turn off. Anybody been keeping up with his most recent outings? 6/11 - Cleveland - 5 IP, 6 H, 6 R(6 ER), 3 BB, 7 K 6/17 - @Detroit - 8 IP, 7 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K 6/22 - Arizona - 8 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 10 K 6/28 - @Arizona - 6 IP, 9 H, 3 R(3 ER), 3 BB, 6 K Definately can't like his WHIP of 2 in his last start. I don't think trading for him would be wise at all, unless the package was understandably cheap. The risk/reward is far, far too great for me atleast to consider making the deal for what you'd have to give up. The reward is huge...he returns to dominance of 03, or atleast returns to being very good, ala 02 and 04, and it would be a crying shame if we didn't win the series(because with a 1-4 of Buehrle-Garcia-Schmidt-Garland in any order, you have no reason to lose any type of series). The risk is could be far greater though...giving up 2 top prospects for what could a disaster...Schmidt being worse than Duque, along with the Sox being stuck with an unbelievably bad contract while hurting in the future for young players.
