Yay, I actually did something as a moderator. Let's celebrate.

No one needs to look at this. u've been forwarned

To me, that doesn't look like a motorcycle accident. If it were real, it looks more like a guy blew up an M80 in his mouth. I just don't see how that would come from a motorcycle accident. -
I didn't listen, and I'm not by any means a Pink Floyd fanatic(and never will claim to be), but Wish You Were Here is like, by far, my favorite Pink Floyd song of all time.

Dare I say... "MOVE YOUR ARM!"

I should have clarified. They would have an extra reliever or two IF they make it. I can't say they will, and I can't say they won't. We'll have to wait another month and find out.
-
You know what's even sadder about that score? It's an asswhooping in football too. Well, maybe not an asswhooping...but it's pretty damn close to one. Another thing...I usually do not like seeing the Wahoos win...but when they beat the Yankees 22-0, they are my second favorite team.
-
Here's my thing Why us an option on a younger player, when you can wait until next year and use his first option? The more you expose them to the majors, the earlier they have to come up. I would prefer to see the older guys up, to just see what they are made of. I see no reason to leave them in the minors...they obviously aren't going to improve a hell of a lot...so why not see if we can pull a Podsednik-type or a Donnelly-type out of our ass, eh?

I actually do agree. We mods and admins will be able to watch over what is and isn't appropiate use of the smillies, I suppose. If, for example, Zero did his dips*** smiley thing, it's not that big of a deal, and we mods and admins will not do a thing about it...no need to. If I call myself and idiot because I said something I thought was stupid, I'm obviously not going to edit it out. But if another poster uses the smiley in the sense that they are seriously and truthfully referring to the other poster as a dips***, then it will be edited out. -
To the Cubs' defense, there were not very many good relievers available...not as many as most people initially anticipated at the very least. And while it is true that they could have used another reliever, this is where the depth of their rotation comes into play...3 or 4 of Wood-Zambrano-Maddux-Clement-Prior will start in the postseason, and the other 1 or 2 will pitch out of the pen. Basically like making a trade for a reliever without trading for a reliever, if you understand what I mean.

Cubs players calling announcers during game

Whether or not you are serious, if Kent Mercker went to the Mike Jackson school of pitching, he would be a very solid pitcher. This past year with us he was awful because he's old, and he hadn't pitched in a year. Mike Jackson, throughout his career, was probably one of the best setup men in the league for quite some time If you're like 40 years old and have had multiple surgeries on your arm, your stuff will go away sooner rather then later. -
Neither was I...in fact, I probably felt exactly the same way you felt and many others felt...Reed was no big loss, it was losing Mo that hurt the most...of course, since then, Ben Davis has hit out of his mind(and Burke has been solid too), and Freddy has pitched very well. But it be would nice to see Reed in CF or RF right now, or at the very least, seeing him play 1B(I thought I remember reading that he was going to or can play 1B), hell, even DH...I mean, Jobo's 500 foot blast was fun, but seeing Reed develop into a solid hitter would be that much better.

The slump didn't get into their heads. What got into their heads was the realization that Maggs and Frank were gone for the year around the All-Star Break. When you lose a combined .280 70 220 .950 from the middle of your lineup, you will not adjust well to it. I do believe that if Frank and Maggs were healthy that we would be right in the thick of things.

This is great stuff. I am still wondering why we got rid of Reed, but we got Garcia, so it's all good. I would like Damon though. He's a very good player and would be a nice addition to the team...so long as he shaves .

If you could add one White Sox person to the Cubs
witesoxfan replied to MinnesotaSoxFan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'd give them Alomar As much as everyone doesn't care about Jose, he does still hit for power, he does still play better then average defense(with stone hands), he does still run the bases well, even for an older player, and he does still get the clutch hit(which is EXACTLY what we'd want for them in October :headshake...BTW...Jose is hitting .283 8 40 1.023 with RISP, and is hitting .297 5 19 1.206 with RISP and 2 outs, and he's done the previously mentioned in under 130 ABs...meaning, either with more at-bats, those numbers would drop considerably, or with more at-bats, his numbers would look that much better, and if I had to take a guess, I'd say they'd get much better...I would venture to guess that people don't remember that Jose hit .244 with the bases empty in 2000, but with atleast 1 runner on, and sometimes more, he hit .310...given, those have gotten worse as he's gotten older, but he is still no slouch either). Basically what I am saying is that giving them Jose could be the absolute WORST thing we as fans could do. I would venture to guess that he could end up getting clutch hit after clutch hit. JMO though -
183 walks is insane...I do agree with that. But it is not all because of a good batting eye. Most of his walks are due to him being pitched around. You could look at Sosa's walk totals of a few years ago, but that was not because he has or had a great eye at the plate, it is because he was pitched around.
-
Whoever it was that said Bonds only gets 2-3 good pitches a game is right and wrong IMO. A good pitch to him can, in some cases, be a pitcher's pitch. You throw him a fastball on the inside part of the plate that could be running in a little and he could hit it out of the park. If they get him a legitamate threat or two in the lineup, and he could have an insane year. If they get 1, just 1, big power threat to protect him, he will have a monster year, and if they can get him another power threat like that(say like maybe Glaus even, assuming he can stay healthy), either he, they, or both would have insane years at the plate. Bonds will break the record, and quite frankly, it does not matter whether or not he is on steroids. What he's doing is nearly superhuman. Steroids should not tarnish his image.

At some point, he probably said the word "stretch" And after he said it once, DJ probably asked him why the hell he said stretch.

No need to wait. It really is the park. And to think, they wanted to add a home run porch too.

A case of Horrible Money Management for 1 MLB Team

What players on the Sox are soon to be FAs?
witesoxfan replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Not quite. We have not seen if JoBo can be a fulltime player in the big leagues. Odds are, no, he's not...but that's what the next month is for. Why couldn't we get a FA OFer, or why couldn't we trade for an OFer? Who's stopping us? So why would WE want to resign him if WE don't know if he'll ever be able to play again? He'd offer him the $14 mill or so that he got this year...perhaps even $15 mill a year, much like Millwood's increase last year(went from $9 mill to $10 mill). He would almost undoubtedly turn down anything else. Any number of players could replace Magglio...you could put Rowand out in RF, and it would be an improvement defensively, and you sign Beltre to play 3B and he's an upgrade offensively from Maggs...am I wrong in saying that? So you are saying that if we put .230 20 60 .750 Joe Borchard out in RF with a rotation of Martinez-Garcia-Buehrle-Contreras-Clement and a pen of Politte, Marte, Mota, and Shingo, we would underachieve...with the BEST pitching staff in baseball, period...right? Things can be done to make up for the lack of Maggs in the lineup. -

I have 1 question. Say someone posts about signing Rey Ordonez...am I going over the line saying "I think that's a stupid idea?" I don't think I am...I'm just letting my opinion on the subject be known...correct? Otherwise...I think it's a great policy, and it should help Soxtalk. -
I think it is more or less Radke that makes or breaks the Twins, personally. Santana is almost guaranteed to give you a quality start, and in all likelyhood, more then that, both times out, and the Twins only need 3 runs or so to either remain in the game or to even have the lead. Assuming they get a win in game 1, game 2 would probably be the biggest game of the series...if the Twins win, they are looking at starting Santana on full rest in game 5 of the ALDS. Again, I'm just hoping and praying that Minnesota does not win the Series, because they very well could.
