  1. I can't personally recall his debut, but I was at his first major league victory. Here's the boxscore Chicago White Sox 3, Minnesota Twins 2 Day Game Played on July 19, 2000 (N) at Hubert H. 2. doub....for what it matters, I got us having a .533 winning percentage in the second half of 2000. If you want to re-evaluate your numbers or not is up to you....just tell you what I got for a number.
  3. Extra wins he'd give us? I have to ask a question that clujer has already asked before....are you truly this stupid or are you just trying to be arrogant? Teams that Mark Mulder has pitched on in the past 3 1/3 years or so have won a combined total of 334 games. Teams that Mark Buehrle has pitched on in that same period of time have won a combined total of 291 games, a difference of 43 wins. What makes you think that Mulder would have won just as many games as he did in Oakland then he would have had he pitched the exact same in Chicago?
  4. There is no bong involved....no marijuana, no glue-sniffing, no alcohol, nothing illegal. The Cardinals have very little starting pitching(aside from Morris and Williams), but have a ton of offense. By trading Renteria and Drew, they are trading from something they have a lot of for something they don't have a lot of. It is called dealing from a strength. It is the second smartest way to get something you need in baseball, with the smartest being quanity for quality....trading Jeff Liefer, Rocky Biddle, Antonio Osuna, and Delvis Lantigua for Bartolo Colon falls under that category(or in other words, trading nothing for something). Trading Kip Wells, Josh Fogg, and Sean Lowe for Todd Ritchie does not....that trade falls under the category dumbass. The Cardinals get a SS who hits for power and plays very good fundamental baseball, other then having a bad glove. They get a starting pitcher who has a BRIGHT future ahead of him in Mark Buehrle. The White Sox get a GG SS who is good offensively, but also get a guy in JD Drew who is solid offensively. Atleast the Cards are getting two proven goods....the White Sox are getting 1 very good SS, and 1 player who is injured goods, but if he is ever healthy for a full year and ever figures s*** out, can put up big numbers. If you don't think Walt Jocketty would consider that trade....then I'm going to have to ask you to pass the bong. Also....one thing about what you have just said bugs the hell out of me. You seem to have forgotten to mention how in the previous two FULL years before this, he won a combined 35 games with an ERA of under 3.50. If you tell me that a combined record of 35-20 with an ERA of under 3.50 sucks, I'm going to have to say that a season of .320 35 130 sucks too.
  5. He ejected Frank? Let's go kill him! That's the ultimate sin!
  6. Nope. I believe he is made of the same thing as you and me. He won't leave. We won't trade him and we won't release him. Plain and simple I'm sure St. Louis would be willing to give us atleast JD Drew, and I have no doubt in my mind they'd consider trading Jim Edmonds for him. If we got lucky enough, we could probably get Edgar Renteria and a minor league prospect or two for him as well....and if we threw in Valentin(assuming we did this at the break) a package of Renteria-Drew for Buehrle-Valentin is not out of the question either. That's not the point....both would be doing it at the end of their career. Buehrle could go to St. Louis at the end of his career as a starter and Mulder could come to Chicago like David Wells went to New York or like Randy Johnson went to Arizona(though odds are, neither Buehrle nor Mulder would be even close to being as dominant as RJ is/was). Get the picture?
  7. That's what I meant in my post. I didn't make it clear. I don't care if we trade for 5 Kris Honel's....Kris Honel is a high-A pitcher, and a high-A pitcher is not what I want. We need a good SS prospect, we need some help catching, and we need some starting pitching....we can get a little bit of that this year.
  8. You know, for every time I've seen Mark say anything about his want to play in St. Louis, I think I've seen 5-10 articles where he says how much he thinks he is indebted to the Sox and really wants to stay here for a while. But I don't get a subscription to the Mark Buehrle Sucks magazine, so... Agreed. I'm under the impression that he someday wants to play for the Cardinals, but wants to stay with the White Sox for the time being and for more then he will be here now(meaning possibly double digit years, so if that holds true, and you still do hate Buehrle, you better be willing to suck it up and deal with about 6-10 more years of Mark Buehrle, if not more) Dan Plesac wants to pitch for the White Sox....are you going to go scream tampering because of that? If I remember correctly, Mark Mulder is from around the Chicago area and was a White Sox fan as a kid, and it wouldn't surprise me if he wanted to pitch for the White Sox someday. Is someday next year, or the next, or the next? Hell no. I just hope that Mark pitches a really important game for us some time down the road, and he wins it, so I can rub it in your face. You will eat crow.
  9. How about let's not even bother with him going to a D-1 school or going to junior college and we just sign him? How's that sound? Also....if we do end up trading away some players this year at the deadline...that could also help restock the farm system.
  10. I dont consider this solid starts. For me it's horrible. 6 IP, 5 ER, if everytime a pitcher performs like this, just few teams in the league would live with that... Rafa, take into consideration that not only was it against the best offense in the league(yeah, I have been calling Boston's the best in the league....they're one of the best, but not better then Toronto), but this was during a time when Toronto was on a tear and was just ripping the cover off the ball. If you can hold the hottest offense in the league to 5 runs in 6 innings, I'll be happy with you every time out. If he gave up 5 runs on 6 hits to the Tigers, then that is a bad outing.
  11. Reward Challenge #1 For Cliff Floyd or Rich Aurilia The first of two Cubs-Sox series is going to start on Friday and will finish on Sunday(duh). The reward challenege is, how many games will the White Sox win of the 3? The tiebreakers will be counted on Sunday and will be SV, R, HR, BB, and K, in that order(which means that I will go through and will personally check out the stats of every team that chose the right number of games the Sox won during the series, and will see which teams had the most saves. If no team had a save or if two teams tied, I will go to the next, and if that one ties, I go to the next....I think you get the picture). The deadline for the choices is Friday before the first game of the series. You can get your answer in by either posting it here, posting it on the Soxtalk Fantasy Forum, or by emailing it to me at [email protected]
  12. After seeing what Clement did to us last year, I would rather face Prior or Wood over him. You wanna talk about knee-buckling pitches....hot damn. That was something.
  13. I'd say that he is a setup man there and Cliff Politte remains closer. The Blue Jays' bullpen is simply atrocious. Outside of Alquilino Lopez, their best ERA guy with an ERA of 3.16, take a look at some of these stats... Kelvim Escobar 4.05 Trever Miller 5.09 Tanyon Sturtze 5.81 Pete Walker 5.85 Cliff Politte 5.90 Jeff Tam 6.21 :puke Kelvim Escobar is now starting....and I'd have to say you're right, they're bullpen is terrible. Gary Glover and Rick White-flag would be good additions to their bullpen....and in ours, they're f***ing terrible. In fact, in like any other bullpen, they are s***ty....but not Toronto's!

    Report

It probably is true. It's not that incredible. It was only a matter of when, not a matter of if. If you tell me we sign Sweeney....than that's incredibly good, and news I want to here.
  15. I'd say that he is a setup man there and Cliff Politte remains closer.
  16. First of all, Juan Pierre isn't getting caught stealing 25% of the time....he's getting caught stealing 20% of the time. Secondly, stealing is not overrated. Getting on base is important, yes, but if you can steal 2nd, you are getting a runner in scoring position, and a base hit then most likely scores a run. And if he gets out, so what....you lose an out and are back to a good hitter in Jimenez who is just a second leadoff hitter. Simple as that. Another note on Pierre....though he doesn't walk a ton(22 walks this year), he only has 18 K's in 300 AB's....that's like one K every 4 games or so. A better version of Willie Harris? Hardly. Willie could be a player much like Pierre some day, but he isn't there yet. Maybe Rauch is a bit too steep of an offer, but I'd really like to have him here.
  17. I doubt it, Garland has done very well against Boston. Remember last year and his spectacular 8 inning shut out? Garland has had some great quality starts and I've been very pleased of how he's performed as of late. He has not gotten ANY run support, much like Mark Buehrle. CWSOX45 Very good? He's 2-2 with a career 5.14 ERA against Boston in his career. If not for that gem he had last year, it would look a lot worse then that. And that was in a less important situation anyways. You put him in the situation Buehrle was in, and I bet he would blow up.
  18. I personally feel that they should just f***ing put a hat on the player, and put nothing on the hat. What's so f***ing important about what is on the hat anyways? Isn't the fact that you got voted in the most important thing?
  19. WSF- I agree, I say that we get Pierre and a couple of relievers from Florida over here. Rick White and Gary Glover are not the answer this year, we need to get a couple more quality arms if we want to get back into this race. CWSOX45 If we could get one of Spooneybarger or Looper from them, I'd be all for it. However, I really don't think we need to go shopping for another reliever. I feel that Almonte and Ginter can get the job done for us. If Florida wants to, I'd definately package up White and Glover up along with Rauch for Pierre.
  20. Right now, we are without a true leadoff hitter. We have a great #2 hitter doing that job. I think that adding Pierre and his incredible speed could be the key. It will get speed on base a lot of the time, and if Manuel gives him the OK to steal whenever he feels he can(which is what I'd do if I was Jerry), or if he atleast has him steal quite a bit, it would put pressure on the pitcher to make sure a strike is thrown so that Jimenez can't capitalize on the situation and bring him home. He would then start seeing more fastballs, which would mean good things. Thomas would then come up, and he'd hopefully just bring in the runs. We'd then have Maggs, Carlos, and who not else after him. We could have 3 or 4 runs after the first a few times. However, I do realize Pierre is not the long-term answer....just in the short-term. He's signed through 05 if I remember correctly, and by that time, we most likely will not have Carlos and we may not have Maggs....we'll have to see. I could see a potential situation next year where whoever is managing the club realizes that Frank plays better at 1B, which then opens up the DH spot, and Carlos, Maggs, and Borchard then platoon in LF, RF, and DH(with Carlos never playing RF of course), and by the time 2005 rolls around, we let Carlos or Maggs goes....simple as that. Reed then just takes the spot of the departed one(whoever it is), and the platoon continues. After that, Pierre is let go, though if possible, I'd try to get some comp picks for him. Regarding the last part of your post....I personally feel that if Wright ever gets some good, consistent control, he could be an ace. I actually think he's starting to turn the corner. He's got good stuff, and he's starting to use it. I for some reason feel confident every time he goes out that he'll give us 6 innings or so of decently pitched baseball. I don't always feel that way with Garland. And I didn't see enough of Wells to figure s*** out.
  21. He's 24, so he's still got a little time to turn it around. I just don't know if he will be able to.
  22. Willis is another of those players the Cubs traded that will haunt them for years to come. I wish we could put Garland in that category as of right now, but as of right now, I am just not sure we can.
  23. Are we gonna start a thread like this after every time Buehrle gets from now on? Everyone here does a great job though....keep it up!
  24. Which is what makes MB such a great pitcher. He rose to the occasion, and he always does rise to the occasion. I said the same thing in another thread, but I'll say it here too. How much do you wanna bet that Garland, if he is put in the same situation(pitching the game after his team loses 1-0 facing off against one of the best pitchers in the majors, and pitching against the best offense in baseball), that he goes out and s***s in his pants, giving up about 7 runs in 4 innings? I bet we would have seen Judy Garland last night, and not Cy Garland.
