  1. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 01:53 PM) Guess Wite's 2 favorite White Sox players? Kevin Beirne and Julio Ramirez go #1 and #2. Mark Dalesandro and Ken Vining round out the top 5
  2. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 01:32 PM) He never, ever made an error that hurt the Sox MANOS! He's probably #3 on my list of favorite Sox players of all time.
  3. http://www.cnn.com/video/?/video/us/2013/0...illance-fbi.cnn Video of him entering the building and walking around with gun in hand.
  4. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 01:05 PM) He definitely had a decent amount of go ahead hits in late innings. As I've grown older, I don't really believe in "clutchness" in baseball like I did when I was younger but at the time I loved Timo because I believed he was a clutch hitter. Nobody is more clutch than Jose Valentin
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 12:55 PM) Was that the one off K-Rod? He has to have more than one highlight with the Sox. Even Orlando Hudson had a couple. Yes. It was heading for the gap and Vlad cut it off well, but he bobbled it a little as Timo was retreating to 1B and he didn't have enough time to get a hustle double. I'm sure there were other memories of him too, those are just the two that stick out in my head.
  6. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 12:13 PM) I loved Timo. You're a poopy head. You loved CMON TIMO and his 3 run single. You hated everything else. You cannot deny this
  7. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 11:00 AM) I wondered... The Sox can't win because I think Dunn is one too. No he is definitely an ogre.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 11:01 AM) There will always be a punching bag, even if the team wins 100 games. Before he went on an historic role, in 2005 Soxtalk wanted Contreras traded in a package for AJ Burnett. I genuinely do not believe anybody that says they liked Timo Perez. He had some epic moments (and that is not a word I use lightly), but he sucked.
  9. Also, the answer is quite obviously getting rid of Adam Dunn. If they did just that and made no other moves, they'd win 108 games
  10. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 10:46 AM) Why can't we blame both the players and the manager? Why do we have to single out just one party? I've never understood this logic. Clearly when you go from almost making the playoffs to losing nearly 100 games a lot of things went wrong. Let's assign blame to all responsible parties. I agree, but clearly Ventura has some "talent" as a manager. This was the best fielding team and an overall good team just last year. If you make a knee-jerk reaction and trade or get rid of anybody that has a bad year, you are bound to be a bad team.
  11. (for those unfamiliar, look is from catcher's perspective) What do these pitches have in common? AJ Pierzynski swung at ALL of them. In a row. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-a-j-pie...i-swing-streak/
  12. That was my second guess.
  13. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Sep 24, 2013 -> 04:28 PM) Locked, pin, 10 digits. 1234567890?
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 10:02 AM) They really don't like the guy from the sounds of it. They usually don't wait to dump those guys (ask Nick Swisher). Swisher was a good player though. He had a down year and was disliked. I still hate the guy, but he was really good with the Yankees. Keppinger had a career year with the Rays and even that took a .325 average. He's not a .325 hitter. Realistically, you expect .270/.330/.370 or worse offensively, and he's not a good defender either, regardless of his versatility. About the only contract I can think of that a team might swap one for one would be Brandon League, and he's getting paid $15 mill over the next two years as opposed to Keppinger's $10. The only way you can do it is if it eats up money in a package deal, in which case you would actually be compensating the other team to take him on by including, in all likelyhood, another prospect. Even if they don't like him, you sometimes have to deal with the players you sign.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 09:43 AM) They will either pick up $$ or a bad contract. Keppinger will not be on this team next year, and it won't happen by release. It would have to be a bad contract then. I don't think anybody would take him unless the Sox ate ~$7 mill, and frankly, this is the same exact argument as has been made with Dunn.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 09:20 AM) I wouldn't say that either. I bet them dump him the first chance they get for pretty much nothing. Of course you do. What team in their right mind would take a mediocre utility infielder coming off shoulder surgery for even $5 mill? Keppinger has less value than Dunn right now
  17. QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 06:21 AM) I have Sync with MyFord in my new truck and the voice control seems to have a problem recognizing what I say. I know I have to change some names in my address book, Marvilyn sounds too much like line-in. But something as simple as call mom cell doesn't register. I am the pronouncer for our school's spelling bee, and (before drinking) speak fairly clearly. Is the technology still evolving? I think that fact that you are calling Mom while driving drunk is about the absolute least manliest thing you could really do.
  18. QUOTE (Reddy @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 08:34 AM) oh no. I'm 27. please. Ha, OK. I was going to say something stupid about emotional attachment to your first love, but you apparently just love vagina
  19. QUOTE (Reddy @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 08:04 AM) hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha Y2HH was right. got coffee with the ex last night and talked for like 4 hours, and yes I need to get my ass laid. mission accepted. for three months I was totally cool with everything - see her again and it's like OMIGOSHILOVEYOUshutthef***upbrainyou'rearetard. b****es. Was this a "first love" or not?
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 08:21 AM) Isn't his contract up? The Yankees may be at the "go another direction" point. For all I know they might be wanting to throw money at Scioscia. Yes it does. Frankly though, letting go of Girardi would be a silly move for them, as he has been a great manager. I know I don't put much stock into managerial effect on teams, but given all the injuries and drama surrounding that team, it's a damn near miracle that team is above .500 at all given the strength of that division.
  21. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 07:22 AM) I'd be fine with Scioscia actually. It's a bit off topic but I think the Cubs are about to make some news by firing Sveum and getting Girardi to manage the Cubs. Why would Girardi leave the ultimate managing job in baseball to work for a perennial loser?
  22. QUOTE (oldsox @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 07:34 AM) I just reviewed the 40 man roster, and I counted 14 spots that could/should be open this off season, not counting those on 60 man DL, like Floyd. Lots of changes will be happening. 14? What guys do you think will be non-tendered? I have 8, and I'm not even confident about that- Deuente Heath David Purcey Ramon Troncoso Bryan Anderson Paul Konerko Mike McDade Brent Morel Blake Tekotte There are other guys that CAN, but those would really be moves made out of necessity.
  23. QUOTE (glangon @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 05:35 AM) I can see him being released in the off-season, best case scenario of sticking him on the 60 day DL and freeing up a 40 man roster spot and releasing him when he struggles to recover from the injury. The White Sox aren't going to eat $10 million to have somebody not play on the team. This is not their MO. About the most they've ever eaten was like $3.5 million to get Linebrink off the roster in 2011. Given this surgery, Keppinger is one of about 8 guys you can say will certainly be on the team next year.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 24, 2013 -> 10:06 PM) I appreciate your post. However, I do think if we want to talk age, then Kepp is old enough to be concerned he is finished as well because of his age. Steve Sax at the age of 32 turned into a major stiff out of nowhere. He always hit and always ran, but at 32 he hit .236 and managed to "play" two more years before he mercifully quit. It's possible, but like I pointed out elsewhere, he hit .270+ in his final 100 games. I don't think he's finished but instead just hit a rough patch. He's still not a guy you want to count on for any more than 200-300 PAs.
  25. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 24, 2013 -> 10:02 PM) It's amazing how few teams see the advantages of platooning your hitters. It's one of the main ways Oakland and Tampa compete with their smaller payrolls. He's had a bad year, but I think Michael Morse would be a good addition. He has actually had neutral or reverse platoon splits the past couple years, but he hits both pretty well. And, if he's putting up an .800 OPS overall, that's an .800 OPS against LHP when Dunn would be putting up .600 (or worse; or way, way worse)
